I think the thing that makes his shot look so weird is how when he goes up he shifts his weight from his back foot to his front foot. Most people keep the weight more on the back foot, or evenly distributed. He is basically jumping off his left leg and shooting with his left hand which is very uncommon and pretty much the opposite of the way everyone teaches.

im so glad i found this. something about nicks shot drives me insane and i cant figure it out. definitely the lean forward, but he releases with both hands too. like a kid not strong enough to flick with one hand, his right hand helps propel it. or something. i dont know. ridiculous athlete.
