    Thank you for addressing the health insurance topic! It's such a major stressor when living in Mexico, especially when a motorcycle whizzes through a red light and almost hits you. The cultural, communication, and language barriers here make it super difficult for an American or Canadian to know when they are getting a good deal and when they are paying for being completely unprotected. For those like me, this is the type of thing that is probably best purchased from a native English speaker who can understand the nuances of my questions, and who can effectively communicate answers without empty promises. I really appreciate you and your guest, and I am going to read the ebook this weekend!

      Thanks Spencer - I didn't think about the "native english speaker" aspect. Probably best to buy from someone from the states because the Mexican culture doesn't want to disappoint, so they will say "yes" to make you happy, but they know the answer is actually "no." It's just how the culture works - but expats are more used to people being direct with them so we can misinterpret their politeness!

      @@AlmostRetiredinMexico For anyone who is not familiar with the "Yes often means No" aspect of Mexico communication culture, here is a recent example...I asked this question to a Mexico insurance agent last week: "Can I choose any dentist I want?" The answer was: "Of course! You can choose the ideal dentist for each member of your family. As long as they are within our network of service providers." Neither of our dentists (adult, child) are in the network. So, the answer was very much No, but he began with "Of course!" even though he knew the answer was very much "No."

    Extraordinarily helpful. Been planning to move to Mexico (possibly Panama) and health ins. is hands down the bigget obstacle. Especially for a soon to be federal government retiree, with two almost useless, yet expensie health care "options" for an expat who would prefer not to return to th US for treatment if at all possible.

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  Před rokem +1

      You've got golden handcuffs even in retirement! But Mexican healthcare is inexpensive, so you could pay out of pocket unless something serious happens - then you could return to the US.

      Example:
      You dont need insurance in Mexico.
      Why?
      Anything that costs you more than 10k USD out of pocket, will kill you.
      They do not have regional stroke centers. You get a CPE in MX and you will never make it to a place to get the life saving anticlot drugs before you are dead.
      So just pay out of pocket and accept the risk.

    I just read Alex's book (after stumbling upon the live video yesterday) and it is awesome ! I never found this info online even after looking for months and researching this topic. I thought geo blue and vumi were top notch - and they have been recommended by other brokers I contacted... now I read Alex's book or listened to the discussion and I pause...hmmm...I wish all brokers would go so in depth!
