Back on the Helvellyn massif once more but this time avoiding Helvellyn itself and opting for its often overlooked siblings to the south: Nethermost Pike, Dollywaggon Pike and Seat Sandal.
The day started off promising enough but finally descended into a real pea-souper. Still, time spent with your head in the clouds is never time wasted!

As you are heading up to Seat Sandal, I love the waterfall, it's a shame about the mist that envelopes you into a not so safe, safety blanket, that's the Lake district for you. I've enjoyed this hike, cause I didn't have to climb it...👍🌫😄 Thanks Glenn.
I hiked up to Helvellyn two days ago I climbed Swirrel Edge on a beautiful clear day.
Today I climbed Red Scree (SIC) near Kirkstone Pass, it was a totally different day, heavy fog, rain and wind, I got half way up and turned round headed back. I found myself feeling very vulnerable up on hill by myself in such poor weather conditions .
The Wainwright walks also blow my mind, such stunning landscape. Thanks for great video.
Goddamn, I did this route up to dollywagon yesterday without realising how bad it would be (my fault for not paying more attention to the map) and it was SO steep!

Another great video. Doesn't matter about the weather. Did a 13 km walk last weekend and it was rainy and wet and I thought, 'this is like walking in Cumbria'. I was in my element. 😅 Sadly no pub though.

I took my RC rock crawler up Helvellyn last summer, was great fun.
I like how the video with lack of scenic views from the summits is also the longest one yet 😂 and it really doesn’t matter because just walking in the lakes is always a great experience, enjoyed the video 👍

This project is so enjoyable to watch, great effort. It is just like the Lakes are, Clouds, Wind, surprise views, vistas… wonderful tracks and seeing inside a pub at the end. So much like the Lakeland hiking I have done. Thank you my friend for taking me on your adventures. 👍😊
We did this walk last weekend. Started at Dunmail Raise, but carried on to Helvellyn, White Side and Raise and left on sticks pass back down to the a591 and the bus back to the car (5 miles!). Those views at the top were unreal. Right over to Ullswater, Morecambe Bay, 360 degrees were clear as a bell.

I absolutely love these videos. I am priveleged enough to live on the Romney Marsh...Romney sheep everywhere and beautiful countryside but it is the same pretty much everywhere because it is so flat. Because it is reclaimed land from the sea it is all pebbly and there are not any really big trees in the Dungeness area that I live. The nearest hills are the Kent Downs and they are 15 miles away. I have to say even though I was born and Raised in London, my heart belongs to the countryside and there is none better than
the Lake District. Your video has brought back some incredible memories of honestly the best times of my life..hiking in the hills you are showing us here. Circumstances have kept me away from the Lake District but I have fallen in love with it all over again watching your videos, and especially the Wainwright series. So thank you so much for filming the scenery so brilliantly. I'm off to rewatch episode 7.

Nice and spot on content, just back from hiking in the Bavarian Alps, sunny, warm and windless even at 2000m.
We went the other way and that steep descent down Dollywaggon is a killer some hairy moments trying not to roll all the way to the bottom. Great video as always.

Great watching your walks. Thoroughly enjoyable. Loved the outtakes. More of those please 😂. I always head up via the Coast to Coast path conveniently near the Travellers Rest, to Grizedale. Good to see those South wythburn routes. I have a few if those in a charity hike in a few weeks time.

I remember walking up Seat Sandal the exact way you came down when we did the Greater Grisedale Horseshoe, absolutely gruelling off the back of Birkhouse Moor et. al.

We did Helvellyn last Saturday as well. But did it from Thirlspot and continued through Lower Man and White Side back to the pub. Weather wasn’t so bad with glimpses of sunshine through valleys. But Old Man on Sunday was like walking in porridge.

Absolutely great footage and commentary, you do a great job for people like us wanting to climb these walks, but could I ask for one more thing, would you put references on for parking 🅿️ as I’m particular where I park, and not keen on parking in precarious places where damage to car is more likely. As a photographer, clag is my worst enemy. I don't mind being in it, I'm not nervous, nothing like that but makes the Hike up pretty pointless. Nothing you can do about it sometimes alas it's the nature of the beast. Time for new boots mate by the sounds of it. I read a comment regarding the OS APP. I also use the app and find it to be accurate. What I woukd say is that even Green marked routes are not always that well defined in the fells. The route from the col between high Crag and haystacks down to Ennerdale and then follow the route up Steeple there is a section that takes you through the moods and out into a grassy area. The pass none existent until you reach Steeple and you have to oick your way through. Not a problem but people need to be weary, even with a map you need to be using your eyes and common sense. 😀
As a point of interest... On an OS map a dashed green line indictates a legally designated right of way, but this is not always where people have walked. A dashed black line indicates an actual path on the ground. Often this will coincide with the dashed green line and if you look carefully on the map you will see they are overlaid on each other. Many people assume they are walking on the green dashes but they are actually walking on the black dashes! As you have found, there are places where there is no discernable path where a dashed green line is marked on the map, and sometimes the dashed green line takes an unrealistic route up very steep ground where there is no path and only sheep or rock climbers have ventured! So a dashed green line doesn't always mark the path but always marks the legally designated right of way. Happy navigating :)

Despite the misty conditions, another good one Glenn. After taking the wrong route off Helvellyn in the mist on a previous visit, I ended up at Thirlmere rather than Grizedale Tarn and on the back of that I bought the OS App for my phone. I can see you use the OS App Glenn and maybe worth mentioning the value of the app in those type of conditions on a future video? Personally I can see how the OS app could be a life saver (I also recently had a chat with a mountain rescue guy and he said he had far more faith in the accuracy of the OS app over the what 3 words app. Keep up the good work, this series has been great.

A great example why walk in the lakes dose not include summer beach wear. Never leave with out wet water gear because the the damp air will strip you of heat out your body increases when you get wetter ! I never leave home with out sleeping bag. Wet bag to go over it just in case I need to keep warm in. Fall or accident or. Get lost or in some cases it two damages to. Return to the valley with out extreme damage. The mountain of north England and Scotland need respect. To the danger. In them because lack planning. Do not leave home with out basic water clothes to keep you warm ! For the guy of the mountain rescue team.s the ability to keep warm dry in accidents. Will save you life. Until the guy find you help them by respect the mountain power !

I've seen it so many times in the summer months. Inexperienced walkers with trainers on and a hoody or something. A fashion rucksack with nothing suitable for changing conditions in it. I think most got lucky on the walks I did in the summer and the conditions were good all day. We did Helvellyn and I carried everything we needed for all weathers but never really needed it but you never should underestimate the weather in the mountains.

Just caught up after getting home from the lakes. 2 days ago we were sat at grisedale tarn after doing St Sunday. Which I nearly cried off as the day had started in the clag and it's my worst nightmare. Luckily the clouds suddenly just swirled away and it was like everything was in 4k🤩 btw can we have an episode dedicated to bloopers when you've done all 214😁

In contrast, I really do not like being in cloud. I have this pathetic urgency to be able to see where I am at all times, and that includes views. I'm a bit disappointed this time, not that it's your fault, but I ended up with five fells climbed in cloud or rain and no views. I'm depending on you to show me them. Unfotunately, one was Seat Sandal...
I agree with you; I find those fell tops a little scary when the mist comes in. It completely changes the atmosphere for me.
@@jonm4989 I was on Helvellyn once in cloud, which didn't stop new arrivals at the wall-shelter at least every thirty seconds all the time I was there, but when I climbed Red Screes in cloud it was actually welcome: I'd written a novel whose climax occurred on its summit in cloud and the chance for research was invaluable!

I do use the OS App but on this occasion I knew where I was going by following features like walls and, as in this case, big drops 😁
