My hack. No ice needed. Just bring a pot to boil. When it reaches the boiling point, add eggs and wait for 10-12 minutes. Then, take it off the stove and pour the hot water away. Just let the eggs sit under the running water until you feel it gets cooler and peel. Works for me.

Great tip! Another method that works for me is to boil the water first and then quickly lower eggs into a steaming basket in the pan, cover and boil for 13 minutes, turn heat off and let them sit covered for ten minutes, put in cold water and shake the pan vigorously. The shells slip off easily, often in one piece.

If you don't have an ice maker or room for ice trys just use super cold water and stick in the fridge. The only time this has never worked was because the eggs weren't fully covered.

Honestly you really don't need ice, just cold water. I boil eggs almost daily and mine typically peel easy. I start them in a with cold water, let them come up to a boil in the water and then turn off the heat. Put the lid on the pan for 10 ish mins and then dump the hot water and fill the pan/pot up with cold water. The trick is you can't leave them in your shock water for a long time. I usually do maybe 5 mins max. Then peel immediately. I just tap each end on the counter and then roll it with my palm. The REAL hack if their is a hack is the egg itself. Fresh eggs don't boil well and small eggs don't tend to peel well. So I get the jumbo ones for boiling. You might end up with an extra yolk but its totally worth it.

Scientifically, it makes sense. The heat of boiling the eggs expands them and the cold, ice water contracts. However, if I want to eat one hot out of the pan, I cook them in water and add a buttload of baking soda (1/4-1/2c). Just rinse in cold water a few times so you don’t burn your hands when you peel them. ❤
