  • I have never heard of anyone doing this before! But we are digging away the clay country rock next to the volcanic intrusion at The Worthington Diamond Mine. We are located less than 1/2 mile outside of Southwest Arkansas' famous Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Sounds like a well-thought-out, exciting project. Good luck with it as you go. Will be watching.

Thank you so very much. I've been dreaming about it all winter and spring. We had to wait for dry, summer weather to dig this otherwise wet and sticky clay. Now that it is nearly 100 degrees every day the clay is hard and we don't have to fear getting stuck. Great conditions for the equipment, but the heat is rough on this old man with heat indexes of between 105 and 110. You gotta love it! What else are you going to do?

I'm glad you plan to keep watching. I expect I will upload some more videos of our progress here in an hour or so. Thanks for your encouraging comments.

Very cool! It's amazing that intrusion (particularly in a layer of clay) is still preserved right at the surface all these millions of years later. Makes me wonder where all the diamonds went that got eroded away over the eons in the layers that used to be above the current surface.

I have wondered that myself. I checked the creeks downstream from this intrusion and there's nothing. I also dredged the river immediately downhill from The Crater of Diamonds State Park. There was nothing worth all of the time, equipment, and gas to pursue the 1-point, 2-point and 3-point diamonds I found after weeks of dredging tons of river gravel. Geologists tell us these intrusions used to be 50 meters (150 feet) higher than they are today after 10,000 years of erosion. They also say those diamonds have probably washed all the way to The Gulf of Mexico by now. Water is powerful. Since it can move a car or truck you know it can move diamonds a long way.

No rain, I don’t know about that! You jinxed yourself!

We got 1/4 inch of rain yesterday right after we quick excavating. We worked 8AM to 11AM then stopped due to lightning and thunder. We will resume digging in a couple of days.

Why is the wall being collapsed? It’s amazing that anyone actually has mineral rights to any property!

oh but they will make a fortune selling tickets for people to dig... capitalism

How silly. You want who to own it & do what with it? And why? The government? lol! So my tax dollars can be wasted as they let it grow up & go to waste. Again, how silly.

We want to study the wall of the diamond-bearing volcanic intrusion. I don't know that anyone has ever done that. AND a geologist told me years ago that the contact zone may be more naturally rich in diamonds because that magma cooled quicker because it was in close contact with the room-temperature clay and rock that was there before that molten-hot, volcanic intrusion. If the magma doesn't cool quickly, the diamonds will turn to co2 gas. When it does cool quickly, they are preserved. So, there may be more diamonds and bigger ones in this contact zone material. We purchased the land and mineral rights that have this volcanic vent on it. Thank you for watching my video and for commenting.

@@Tripplesmoke No, we won't be selling any tickets. We paid a lot of money for this land and mineral rights, building an access road to this once, land-locked property, and excavating it all. I think we will just keep the diamonds ourselves.

@@6grandsons That would be silly, but that is not the case here. We are OUTSIDE the state park property by 1/2 mile. We are on private land with a similar, diamondiferous, lamproite intrusion. We are mining it for diamonds. My wife and I funded this entire project with our own money--no government funds are involved. Thank you for watching our video and for your questions so we could clear up the confusion.
