    Zack, I see now how you really have to plan each move while unloading, for safety sake. The right tool used in the right way makes it safe. Great job and your right, it's work. 💪🏼🥇

    Wow! I didn't realize how dangerous unloading the truck was! If it's possible I would try to schedule my unloading when there's a loader available. But you seem to have everything under control. Stay safe young man!

      I would like to do that also. Prob is, here at this yard…the loader operator isn’t there much. He’s usually out buying or looking at logs. So it’s hard to catch him there. I would prefer the loader by far lol. But a man has to do what he has to do. Thanks for watching and also commenting! Take care

      Yes you’re right. Been doing it all my life basically. Grew up farming and logging. Cutting timber etc. So I am no stranger to it. But I did learn to work as a kid. My granddaddy insisted we learn how to work and how to enjoy it. There are times I really enjoy it and times I don’t lol. But all in all, I do love it and that is what keeps me going back. Thanks for the kind words my friend and for watching! Take care

      Knuckle boom truck is a better way. Having loaders at both locations is better. Butttt when you’re on a budget…these old side loaders will pay the bills until you can do better. These old trucks are tough. And will take a lot. You just have to be strategic. And careful. We’re working towards buying a big skid steer for our logging operation. But that won’t solve unloading. Knuckle boom log trucks are super super expensive. Not to mention, a whole new can of worms maint wise and DOT requirements. They all have their perks and drawbacks tho. This side loader is super simple yet complex. It just makes a man work harder really physically. Hey, thanks for watching friend and commenting! I appreciate it. Take care

    Could you put a hydraulic ram in the center under the log deck? If you ran it left to right and had it lift on the drivers side, it should push them off in theory! Run two hydraulic lines to the pump and put the lever in front of the headache rack! Could fabricate it for less than 300 dollars!

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Před 10 měsíci

      That’s an idea for sure. Only think is…my pto doesn’t run a hydraulic pump. It runs a shaft driven winch system for the loader. But it’s def an idea. I’ll keep that in mind and thank you for your input! I surely appreciate it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care

    Always a good day when i see you post a video. I enjoy everyone. I been logging and sawmilling all my life been around jeff alot he hauls logs to us now. Got a few questions for you if u dont mind. If you had to skid logs off a hillside how would u go about it i figure if it starts rolling sideways down hill them mules fixing to have a time just curious. And have u ever noticed 9 times out of 10 a working pair of mules/horses look alike u hardly ever see a pair that aint matched lol. Just some thoughts love the videos keep em coming.

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Před 10 měsíci

      Hey there! Jeff is a good one no doubt!! Um, well, the best way to skid downhill is to lengthen your drags out either by lengthening your chain or by hooking two logs together in tandem. That will help to sort of keep it straight going downhill. If it is real steep country like over in Virginia and East Tennessee, then J grabs were pretty popular over there. It was designed so that if the logs started to outrun the team you could swing the team sideways and the grab would come out of the log and release the log down the hill. For me, it has always worked out best just lengthening the load out. But we’re not too steep here either. Thanks for watching and also commenting! I really do appreciate it. And thanks for the kind words. Take care.

      @zachodom7486  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Oh and also far as marching teams…most people try to match their color and size etc. But how they work together is what matters most. The rest is just icing on the cake so to speak.

    Zach, what type of Hard Wood did you bring to the Mill,? Is this type of Hard Wood furniture grade wood or used for something else. That method of unloading the Truck seems difficult and dangerous. Where is the Fork Lift, that wood be much safer and quicker.?

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Před 10 měsíci

      This load is sweetgum and pin oak. The pin oak has a market for grade lumber. The sweetgum will be made into cross ties and blocking material. Yes, I prefer the loader myself also. But the feller that runs this yard is sort of a one man show and he’s out a lot buying and looking at logs. So he’s usually not here when we unload. And we unload a lot late evenings and weekends. So it’s tough to have anyone around. Some mills I’ve hauled to don’t mind us using the loader to unload ourselves. That makes it nice and quick. I’ve don’t it this way a lot. It’s not bad. You just have to keep your bearings about ya and take your time. Thanks for watching and commenting! Take care

    If the mill us closed, how do they know that's your logs, and how did you weigh them?

    • @zachodom7486
      @zachodom7486  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hardwood saw logs here in my parts are graded and then scaled by volume not weight. Logs make a certain grade then so many board feet by volume. We use the Doyle scale here in my parts. All my logs have my initials on them and I also let the mill owner know by phone or text that I’ve hauled in a load or whatnot. We are paid according to grade and board footage.
