I never leave home without my model 360 scandium alloy snub. I hardly notice it at all appendix carrying. Glad I have the fire power if I should ever need it.
I have the S&w model 340 m&p ounce or two heavier like you have mentioned on your model replace the grips with a hogue tamer really helped with the recoil

Buffalo Bore’s 38 Spl +P 158 gr. lead gas check semi wadcutter hp is the best out there as a defense load. I can (sort of) manage it from my 360PD. 357 Mag cases won’t clear the cylinder with the snubby’s short ejector stroke. 38 spl spent cases will. This is a big deal if you ever need to perform a rapid reload with this mini cannon.

i have found not to put finger accoss the trigger as in mid length. wicked knuckle whip if doing so. but as a back packing gun in my case, finger pain (most likely) is not felt with a bear body on your face.
That was my carry gun for years with plus P ammo. I shot out the cylinder every six months, cleaned it and carried it. I dreaded shooting it. Now at 70 I gave myself a break and retired it for a Glock 26. Not worth the pain.
It’s amazing how recoil sensitive different people can be. My 4’11” wife shot this years ago and said it wasn’t horrible with 125 grain 357 loads. Then my 6’3” brother in law shot a full size HK p30 with 9mm 115 grain fmj target loads and had to stop at 5 rounds because his hand was throbbing from the recoil pain. I believe it is all individual perception.
That’s so very true. My edc is a compact 9mm (Sig P365XL), but where I prefer .45 ACP full-power defense loads when I’m able to conceal the gun. I’m 68 and of a small-frame. My good buddy is big & solid built, but prefers the same Sig chambered in 380 due to recoil.
Unless you have really short fingers you might consider taping a pad of 0.25" thick Sorbithane(TM) visoelastic rubber to your gun's backstrap. That will eliminate most of the sting.

yup, ouch. I carry one and shoot it at the range just enough to feel confident in my grouping. It's not a gun that shoot boxes and boxes threw with a smile on my face. but, if I use it to save my family or my life ill take the black and blue palm any day.
I have the Kimber K6S DAO 2" and .357 Mags HURT LIKE HELL in that thing. And it weighs TWICE as much as what you have there... I can't even imagine the pain you're going thru with that airweight. :(. My experience has forced me to drop ammo back to .38 Spl +P in .357 Magnum snubbies at the MOST.
Same experience I had with my M&P 340. It's just a touch heavier but not by much. First thing I shot through it was a cylinder full of 158 grain .357 and "that was unpleasant" is my take, too.
I own a model 329PD and have done the following: 1) Changed out the titanium cylinder for a stainless steel cylinder for a model 629. 2)Put a Hogue 500 magnum padded rubber grip on it. 3)Had Mag-Na-Port quad port the barrel and shroud. All the above helps with recoil mitigation
I shoot .38+ps through my .357 snubbies. Plenty of accurate power with less range -- and I pretty much eliminate the chance of a recoil bullet-pull jam.
@@aheroictaxidriver3180 I don't handload, so .38 Super ammo is too rare. I became a pretty good shot with my M1911A1s, but round-butt revolvers are easier for me to conceal. Though not part of the conversation, my favorite CCW is my Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 Special.
I have this Smith & Wesson m&p model 340 which is the centennial model variant it has the stainless steel cylinder instead of the titanium it weighs 13 Oz I changed the grip to a hogue tamer grip and it really helped with the recoil I was able to get back on target a lot faster
Have a Ruger LCRx with a 3 inch barrel chambered for 38 special +P and I can't imagine confidently shooting magnums out of that light revolver, let along an even lighter revolver like the 360PD. I haven't had a nasty experience with recoil on handguns yet but I'm afraid I'll be a big wuss to the pain and have the gun literally fly out of my hand.
Probably be less scary and hesitant for you if you cocked the revolver and fired single action 👍👍 P.S. Did you try a .38 Special to compare them both with? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
While stout, alot of these beta guys exaggerate the recoil... And I'm really gonna piss some of you off here. A snub nose 357 mag is of no more effectiveness than a 9mm when caparison is between two short barrel pistols.. when the mag gets up to 4" and 6"... Then it's a different story...
Good question. I generally carry a Ruger SP101 and the .357 Magnum recoil is more manageable. But in terms of follow up shots the .38 Special +P round works much better.
I feel your pain haha. I have a taurus snub 357 and i tried putting 5 shots of 180 grain buffalo bore heavy outdoorsmen cast bullets thrugh it. I got 2 and thats all i wanted to shoot haha. But still like the 357 over 9mm any day. The buffalo bore are for my 6inch ruger gp 100 when im in the woods normally my edc is golden saber 357 in my sbubby. Im no fan of any 38 spl. Damn good job taken that recoil respect. Nothing puts a meth head in a sirt bed like 357 mag. ⁴
Everyone knows that a 357 magnum with less than a 2.5 inch barrel is absolutely useless. You should be using a 38 in that small of a barrel. It kills the velocity tremendously from a 357

This is a self-defense weapon, not a range gun . A little discomfort is better than being dead. But please 🙏 practice at a range !

If you don't like heavy recoil then get the stainless steel framed version it's heavier to carry but lighter on the recoil

It's bad lol but it's not as bad as you think. But it does have some wrist pain to deal with.

Still quite a pop with 38 but certainly doable. The 38 feels like shooting a 9mm from a small semiauto.
Great to have a gun that'll shoot the light wadcutter loads all the way up to the magnums.
