I see Trevor in this rig around my neighbourhood often and it always puts a smile on my face. Dude drives it like he stole it too and I mean it in a good way, nothing better than beautiful old iron still working hard!
I've seen this truck many times over the years on Vancouver Island and it truly is in a class of its own. The Bennett family know how to take care of their equipment and this truck is absolutely beautiful!!! Thanks for the great video of the self loader in operation and the history of this local legend!
Congratulations Travor! you own literally the COOLEST logging truck/trailer on earth! Reminds me of MAD MAX semi a little bit. Thank you so much for video! Really made my day! P.S. Travor, your dad would be proud!
WOW 1975 Wow, where did we go wrong today, 1975 and still working and out working the throw away trucks of of today but with out the throw away prices, nice rigging,
Can't say I've seen a Hayes with a tandem front end before, very cool! Watching the driver load his truck makes me think he's done it a time or two before... Lol, nice job!
Oh man it’s good to see Trevor still going in that truck I remember as a kid he would be at the ford and friends car show and then I got to worked with Trevor for a few years and everyday I was in aww of that truck rain or shine he was running a Mack engine at the time with Crome rocker covers awesome truck and top notch driver 👍
Can you imagine rolling into a flying J in the Midwest with that. You couldn’t stop and answer 1 questions because you would never get out of there while other drivers looking at it.
The Mack's that Husby had were great trucks too, and the KW's were good too, during my apprentice days eith CanFor i worked on all of them except the Challengers, each had their god and bads.
Having the V8 engines made sense back in the day when fuel wasn’t so pricy. Although I’m gonna guess a few things in that 3406 Cat ain’t “stock”, I’m thinking of the marine cam upgrade that puts out 800hp. Probably needed hauling that kind of weight.
Hi, I'm no expert. Adept Ape has done I believe two videos on this subject. From my understanding. The 3406E, C-15, C-16, And C-18 single turbo and C-18 twin turbo. Are all part of the same family. The 3406E and C15 I believe are identical bore and stroke capable of a factory 550hp. The marine cam upgrade is worth an additional 40 hp. The C16 is an increase of both bore and stroke. To get to the 800hp version you would have to also use a C18 crankshaft and related part's, con rods ect to get to the increased stroke of a C18 to achieve a reliable 800hp. The C18 twin turbo would raise that to 1000hp. Interesting note Caterpillar now offers brand new C15 blocks with core exchange from any Cat, Detroit or Cummins engines. all be it I would imagine at a premium price. None the less you could build a brand new engine.
We looked into drop axles back in the day but they’re not legal here & needed to be able to pack more weight on the front end. It was never built for beauty just log hauling work horse. By the way I’m Trevor Bennett.
How does the operator/driver know how many logs to put on the trailer for load limits? Are the logs not that heavy to be concerned about, or there no weigh stations on his route?
Bring back good old days the work horses 🐎 in western Canada 🇨🇦, pound per pound can’t touch this off road truck. 10-4 remember SAW in the WOOD 🪵 and RUBBER on the ROAD , plus THINK 🤔 SAFETY and always put SAFETY FIRST . HAMMER DOWN PULLER PETE ok RUBBER DUCK 🦆. SEE you on the other side buddy GOD BLESS YOU buddy .😢😢
@@herbscheit2061 Im sure the 3408 Cat was the first engine when all the work was done on it in the 80's i think the V8 Mack came next but it could of had a Cummings before the Mack , if i remember the Cat was pulled it was to thirsty its been awhile
Its a timber Mark . The hammer has a number on it that gets imprinted onto the ends for easy identification of where the trees originated. They must be stamped by law if the timber is from privately owned land and not public lands. images.craigslist.org/01717_9NkkmIxJI78z_0t20CI_600x450.jpg www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/forestry/forest-tenures/private-timber-marks
@@Westcoastbeauty Oh interesting! I was thinking he was trying to settle them but at the same time thought there is no way a little sledge would be able to do that.
How about showing us the interior ? He's done a lot of work to that truck. It has air ride rear suspension. It didn't come that way from the factory in 1975.
The 3406 is nice but man I bet it sounded better with that E9. All the I6 boys love their "smooth" power but I'll take the bark of a big industrial V8 any day, anyway. Perfect truck otherwise.
then you realized Europe cut down all the marketable timber 800 years ago and there is no logging industry there that why they built shit with bricks and rocks..

Hayes trucks are great units.... shame this one was ruined with the twin steer setup. Uglier than sin.... don't know why they didn't just go with a lift axle in the normal spot.
Gorgeous truck! Hayes & Pacific were two of the toughest trucks built!! 👍👍

Looks like that operator knows something about running that lift.
Best Wishes from Montana! M.H
Every driver from the island has seen this truck at least once. What a legendary rig.
Tuff old truck!!!
I am sure it will outlast the junk they build now...
Nice load, nice truck!!!
Thanks for sharing.
Glad to see its still working. I first saw it in the 90's in Duncan.
That is a gorgeous truck. I love the purr of that Cat.
Super appreciate the content and the quality of delivery
thank you!
Amazing truck! It's great to see it's still hauling.

Nice video, the loader operator made it easy! My uncle owned a Hayes back in the 70s. It was a good well built truck.
Very nice video. I enjoyed listening to this gentleman telling us about his truck. Thank you very much for sharing.
The joy i get seeing this truck going up the malahat! Love this video, always wondered who drove this rig
What a great heritage unit. Thanks for sharing.🍁🤙
That’s one beautiful and awesome truck 👍💯

Saw That truck Last week Its Amazing Truck also Amazing interview to.
I've seen this truck on the island for years. I remember the chrome valve covers from years back. Haven't seen it lately though,
That’s a proper truck driver

Brutal old school truck💪
Old school trucking, with a old school truck. Doesn't get muck better than that. Man takes pride in his ride.

Such a professional video! So nice to see good video on a beast like this. Subbed!
Thankyou.

Beautiful truck
I've seen double front axles before on large dump trucks, but never on a self loading log truck.
"Outstanding".
Nice piece of equipment you have their
What an amazing rig and driver, gotta get those split rims back on her tho!
What’s the GVW max on this rig? 160,000 lbs (73,000kg)?
Beast of the road!?????

He can carry more weight on the steering axle’s thereby a bigger payload!
snowrunner modder?
Proper skills
Aside from looking bad ass, what is the benefit of having a twin steer setup?
so that he can haul an 8 thousand pound crane overhead of the cab
Weight capacity
What a beauty
Sure is alot of axels, but looks real good 👍
Awesome truck! Would of been a beast with a v8 mack. The cats a good engine but nothing pulls better than a E9
The truck is beautiful too the attention to detail, the paint you just know its well looked after
What a shame we can't hear him properly and no subtitles either, it might have been interesting.
awe so sad for you out of 151000 views you are the only complainer.
Definitely from Vancouver Island with that snarky attitude.. dudes got a point, man..

Does having the ability to load and unload your own trailer make you more money as an owner operator?
It does
How does the operator/driver know how many logs to put on the trailer for load limits? Are the logs not that heavy to be concerned about, or there no weigh stations on his route?
He may have scales under each bunk.
Trucks that haul any type of freight will have tire pressure guages you can check.
60 m³ ?more ?
Never mind the truck, what are those interesting circular buildings in the background?
Water storage tanks.
I know tandem jeeps were legal in Alta early 90s but dont think they are legal in b.c yet
I miss the comox valley……

I believe Hayes was bought out by PACCAR and then shut down. Superb loader operator
So kenworth's responsible.
PACCAR is both Kenworth and Peterbilt
Detroit, Cummins, caterpillar, Hall-Scott, Hercules, Paccar, what engine is in that machine!?!?.
In the video it shows the engine. You should watch it

Зачем такой табун колес? Будто 100 тонн везет😃
Amen to that they dont buid like that anymore
Nice truck, but I initially thought it was a toy compared to the logging trucks we use in Europe.

When she said "I can handle BIG WOOD" She wasn't joking! 😉
