  • Ever wonder how all of my planning and organizational guides come together? Here's a look at how I do my Sunday afternoon planning! I usually spend about an hour (with typical kiddo interruptions) getting everything set up for our school week. Please let me know if you have questions or want more specific details on any part of this!
    Check out my website at www.homeschool101.wordpress.com for more resources.
    If you want to bind your own planners, I would recommend this one:

    Hello! I am a huge planner and have been homeschooling for about 7 years now. I love seeing your family's homeschool journey. Your videos have really helped me to streamline my processes and realize that I can plan to my heart's content and still keep things simple! Thank you so much. I hope you guys are doing well and that the house build is going smoothly. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family.

    @stlilymov4 Před 8 lety

    Great video. Would love to see a tutorial on how you created your excel spreadsheet. This one is little different that the others you've shared. I'm a former classroom teacher as well and I create all of my own lesson plans, tables, etc. on word. I plan on the weekends the way you do and history and science always take me the longest too. The issue I'm having is, planning on a weekly basis sometimes doesn't give me enough time to purchase or gather materials/books fun games, crafts, and activities. If you come up with a solution I would love to hear about it. Thanks again and have a great school year.

    • @MeganPhillips
      @MeganPhillips  Před 8 lety +2

      I have a couple different spreadsheets I use. Have you checked out the Year at a Glance (czcams.com/video/0-JtBNCIm_Q/video.html) Video? The other one is my son's Weekly Checklist (czcams.com/video/-GdIHn6vwp8/video.html) Video. If I missed a page, let me know!
      I am thinking about the materials/books issue. (Hence why I'm Amazon Priming half of my supplies!) Maybe I need to sit down an at least look at the experiments for the rest of the quarter. I could probably do 4 or 5 weeks at a time. That would give me a chance to get stuff ordered. If I come up with any genius plans, I'll let you know!

    Thanks so much for sharing this video!!! It's extremely helpful for me with my K/1st grader! Can you share your thoughts on writing utensils? I'm debating on teaching my K/1st grader to start using a fountain pen (I believe German schools start training with fountain pens in 1st grade) but I'd love to know what others have tried/used and how that's worked with their children's penmanship. When you decide how to handle the completed work portfolio, I hope you share! Have a blessed day!

    • @MeganPhillips
      @MeganPhillips  Před 8 lety

      Hi Lindsey! I started my son with just a regular pencil right from the very beginning. Honestly, I never thought about doing anything differently. He has pretty decent penmanship for an almost 7 year old boy, if I do say so myself. Handwriting Without Tears suggests using small golf pencils in the beginning or crayons as kids are learning those early writing strokes. I've never done that. My 4 year old usually uses a regular pencil but sometimes she chooses colored pencils or skinny markers and I'm okay with that too. I will definitely share when I get a portfolio system set up!

  • @craftybeeshomestead1050

      @MeganPhillips  Před 3 lety

      Sure can! Make the system work for you! But to be honest, we don't use the crate system anymore. It worked for my oldest, but then I had more kids with different challenges and realized that's not how we homeschool, so that crate is gone. :)

      I was! :) I taught Family & Consumer Sciences for 9 years before staying home with my littles. Homeschooling wasn't initially in our plans, but once we actually had kids and saw the way public education was going, it just made the most sense for us. I'm super lucky that I have the ability to stay home, and CZcams gives me a bit of a "teaching" outlet! :)

    How do you print the Excel Year at a Glance without the columns being so dark in color? I tried draft but it's still dark. Not a little dark at the top and light throughout like yours. Hi i wanted to ask, if someone is going to start homeschool do you recommend i download the yearly planner with the weekly planner? Is it important to have both or can i just plan with just the weekly planner?
    Do i have to have a time of the subject worksheet , to tell me what time i will be teaching my son his subject?
    I like your weekly planner, i was wondering if i can just have that and not anything else. What would you recommend. Hope to hear from you soon

    • @MeganPhillips
      @MeganPhillips  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Lubna! You can do whatever you want! :) I really like the idea of having the whole year generally mapped out just so I have an idea of how things should go. Then it's super quick to transfer over to my weekly checklist and give more specific details for my son to follow.
      One example that might help is our spelling curriculum (we use All About Spelling) which has 24 steps. If I just started in on Week 1, Step 1, we'd be done with spelling way before the end of the year. And that might be OK with you, and that's OK! :) But since I planned out my year ahead of time, I built in a break every 4th week. This gave us a chance to catch up if we got behind (which we didn't) or gave him an "easier" week (which he loved.)
      Does that make sense? I hope I'm answering your question. If you think planning weekly is enough for you, go for it. That's the great thing about homeschooling... you have the flexibility. I don't put times on anything... our day is very flexible and it would drive me crazy to say "we're doing spelling from 9:00-9:20" because our days never go like that. We follow a general rhythm for our day and that works for us. Once I have more school age kiddos, I might have to be more structured, but for now, I don't.
      Please let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be happy to help! Thanks so much for watching!

      Yes thanks so much your reply has given me great help
      Also one more thing, im starting homeschool for my 8 yr old in sept im taking him out of school, because he is easily influenced, and he is hardly learning and i feel he is missing out and time is being wasted. I do believe i will face lots of challenges. I was scared until i saw all your videos and other people videos , which has motivated me. And i am really excited.
      Can you just let me know what things i need to look out for so i dont feel pressurised with the homeschool system please . If u dont mind

      Queen_copeland 21 c I'd like to try and give you some guidance, but I have 2 thoughts... 1. Can you elaborate on your disability and how it might impact homeschooling for you? 2. You're really about 5 years early for planning. 😊 Anything you look at is going to be obsolete in 5 years when your son starts kindergarten. My best advice to new mom's is to take it easy. Little kids don't need tons of curriculum or fancy things, they need to play and explore and experience life. The curriculum will come, I promise. 😊
