  • Today's mirrorless cameras are amazing tools, getting ever closer in qulaity to their larger cinema counterparts. And while I'm not ready to say that they are totally fungible, footage from small cameras can certainly be intercut quite convincingly with footage from larger ones.
Some of you have asked how I color-match footage from my RED V-Raptor [X] with the Canon R5 C, and this video is an example of how I do so. To be clear, it's not always the same from one project to the next. I sometimes change methods within a project, or update methods as I learn and grow.
But here's a quick experiment I did yesterday out on a hike with my wife, and a demonstration of how I graded and matched the shots. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Enjoy!

Oh, I mislabeled the interior NiSi Athena shots of me and Oscar (the parrot). Pretty sure they were all at T4, despite some being labeled as T2.8. Sorry!

Please can you make some video using Premiere Pro?

Hey Sean, I stopped using Premiere a couple of years ago. I was actually going to make a short video about what I think the most valuable videography purchases are, and Resolve is number one on that list, followed shortly by a good graphics card. The $300 price tag for a lifetime Resolve license is easily the best value for money in this entire space. It takes a while to learn, but it is 100% worth it.

You’re so welcome! It was something I wanted to look at in more detail, so I’m glad you asked for it.

It's insane how the tools to make films have become so much more accessible over the years. I remember back when the GH5 was being celebrated for offering 10 bit 4K recording in a mirrorless form factor.

"what if you told me you destroyed the raptor footage so all the detail from the skin was lost and it looked crappy like DSLR footage"...I would believe you!
