This song seems like one about leaving behind terrible traditions, “I’ll never wear your broken crown!” Is less about them giving up a crown, and more about them making their own crown. A shiny beautiful new crown that will never wear and chip like the one before it. It’s a very “I will take your throne, and _-destroy it.-_ Because I’ll be *damned* if I ever become like you. The day I will obey your rules is the day that hells fire will burn cold.” song
"So hold, my hand, consign me not to darkness." I don't know about you guys, but man... That line is powerful and gives me the chills every time I hear it.
I found the lyrics very confusing to begin with, but I think I'm starting to understand. The song is about rejecting your heritage, not taking part in traditions or expectations you find wrong, and to not accept the continuation of what is sick and ruined, i.e. the broken crown. And to add to the fandom debate going on in the comment section - I personally find that it suits the relationship between Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch and their father Magneto (ignoring the recent retcon).
Juanchi Blanco it's all supposed to be from the point of Lucifer and concerning the fall. I'm too lazy to write why. There's an explanation out there on the internet somewhere
I feel its about addiction and the shame faced in recovery. Having to look at ones self in the mirror. I took the road and i fucked it all the way now in this twilight how dare u speak of grace...
Lol I'm here because a bunch of my Christian friends told me to listen to it. I love the song but now I think those 'friends' are trying to make a statement on my Hinduism:/
im here because i grew up in my dads old car, through house and house, car rides across states, and he didnt have radio. but he had a CD player. i was raised on Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, the Dropkick Murphys, Green Day, Nirvana, and ones i still havent identified and listened too because i never realized that love i have for them. sure, you can relate this song to all those fandoms, but nothing matches memories and nostalgia.
My car cd story with this music is that when I was about 9/10 years old I loved it, my dad bought the cd and I started really liking it. In the summer holidays, when on long rides on our way to a campsite, I'd ask if we could listen to Mumford and sons
As this obviously fits almost every chosen one story, I'd like to add about one I'm currently reading. This fits Rand in wheel of time very particularly, considering the whole illusion of choice, desire to go home at the start, feeling of mistrust and lies, and mostly a desire to leave aside his status as the chosen one and his crown until he is forced to acknowledge what he is, and then is forced to accept what he is. His mistrust still is apparent though.
I've never experienced music like this before. It's so raw. You can feel the passion seeping out of the lyrics and straight into your chest. It's so brutally honest. I don't cry at songs often... but these guys. They're breaking me. For those who say it doesn't make sense, I don't get it. This makes more sense to me than half the music I listen to. It speaking the language of my heart. Hitting me where it counts. It's weird. Like I said, never experienced music this way before.
This made me think of Aragorn in how he didn't what to turn out like his ancestor and how he didn't want to be king. That last line in the song about how choices seal our fate made me think of how everything Aragorn did led up to him being king despite how much he refused to accept it.
i disagree on the last part, in what way could denying the title of king reflect sealing his fate to be king. his fate more likely signified maturing to take a responsibility you never wanted for the sake of the things you care about
This song reminds me of Melkor as well, much more than it does Aragorn. To me it sounds as though it is describing Melkors emotional state, and what he was going through and his journey. It kind of shows why he made the choice to disobey Illuvitar. It says "Ill never wear your broken crown" Melkor thought that it was wrong for illuvitar to controll the others and wanted to break out and create something new. He thought that it would be more beautiful with individuality. He didn't want to be a follower and wear the token crown just for following blindly. There are more reasons but i'm too tired to explain.
This heavily reminds me of Crowley from Good Omens He fell for asking questions, and resents heaven for it, but still prays to god in times of desperation
i have heard people bash on Mumford and sons fans saying that the band is not at all unique and that they sound a lot like older bands i myself disagree i have found no other sound quite like Mumford and sons. can anyone tell me of similar sounding bands, if there exist any im sure id love them
I agree, I’ve never really seen anything like Mumford and Sons (except for bands in the same genre of music). Besides with their album Wilder Mind (I think that’s what it’s called) they evolved their style; it’s still had that Mumford and Sons feel, yet it was something new compared to the two albums before it.
I listen to a lot of music and most bands have a couple songs per album that really make you think, try to discern the hidden meanings. What I've found, and love about Mumford and Sons is that EVERY song of theirs is that way. This is one of my favorites ♥
This is like the only Mumford and Sons song I've heard that I've liked and I don't really know why. Can't explain it. I don't think they're bad. Just for some reason I love this song and the other songs by them just don't speak to me.
Jumping on the fandom bandwagon, this makes me think of Thanos and Gamora. Especially the scene where she says she always hated his throne. And "In this twilight, how dare you speak of grace" - she's criticizing his view that his murderous actions are 'mercy.'
I actually think thanos's thoughts were mercy. Getting rid of half does let the others thrive, since that's kind of like rebooting the system, getting rid of risks in the process. He took away the risk of overpopulation.
Gamora was so underrated honestly. Her life was a bunch of hard choices, and till her last breath she did give all to see that Thanos was stopped. She's one of my favorite characters. I wish we'd been able to see more of her ❤💖
This reminds me of Shrek, when he was forced to fight his long time ally and close friend Shaggy to keep him from stealing the n-word pass, only to be betrayed by Donkey later on.
It's so fascinating how Marcus can write such personal tunes, leave them for the general public to discover, and then we find them relatable. Good music is so universal...
This reminds me of Harry Potter. Dumbledore knew where he was always, yet he never saved harry, dumbles needed him pliable, so he could make harry into the light's personal weapon. he says to harry that he had a choice yet he was never given one his whole life. his entire life was dictated from the beginning. I wouldn't be surprised if dumbles had done it to voldy because just by the way that he acts its as if he himself is under an imperious. Tom had real goals and he wanted the wizarding world to be better and not for them to lose their traditions, Tom actually wanted to teach DADA, yet Dumbledore denied him when came back after Dippet told him to travel and find experience. Dumbledore is the main enemy yet Harry didn't know it till that it was too late. This is Harry's song.
... since people are talking abt fandoms I might as well add who I think of too lol Tawnypelt, from warrior cats. Why? "I'll never wear your broken crown" about Tigerstar and joining him, but not agreeing whatsoever with his beliefs. "Broken Crown" Touch my mouth and hold my tongue I'll never be your chosen one I'll be home safe and tucked away Well You can't tempt me if I don't see the day The pull on my flesh was just too strong Stifled the choice and the air in my lungs Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie 'Cause when I opened my body I breathe in a lie I will not speak of your sin There was a way out for Him The mirror shows not Your values are all shot But oh my heart, was flawed I knew my weakness So hold my hand consign me not to darkness So crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down I'll never wear your broken crown I took the road and I fucked it all away Now in this twilight, how dare you speak of grace So crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down I'll never wear your broken crown I took the road and I fucked it all away Now in this twilight, how dare you speak of grace So crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down I'll never wear your broken crown I can take the road and I can fuck it all away But in this twilight, our choices seal our fate
Some people like to yell out fandom redirects in the comments, and therefore get the responses of people who show them just how much of an idiot they appear to anyone not in their fandom.
Honestly, when I hear this song, all I can think of is SPN Lucifer about Michael and Heaven. ("Crawl on my belly till the sun goes down, I'll never wear your broken crown. I took the road, and I fucked it all the way." Of course, how he refuses to bow down to humans, and turns several into demons. "Now in this twilight, how dare you speak of grace." Perhaps that Michael and most of heaven is hypocritical as they did not bow to, nor love, humans. "Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie." Unlike how Michael and most of heaven also do not love or bow to humans, Lucifer outrightly disobeyed, refusing to even pretend. "So hold my hand, consign me not to darkness." Lucifer not wanting to go to be sent to hell by Michael.")
That's exactly what I think of when I hear this song too. In fact, I was brought here because of a Sam fanvid (though I did love M&S before that vid) haha
+Aʊʀօʀa “SPN Trash” tɦɛ Faռɖօʍ Nɛʀɖ no it was "Sam Winchester ● I'll never be your chosen one" by Alina0405video here on YT... but it might have been the same video just shortened/cut into a vine
I am really on a Mumford kick these days. The new album is great. I didn't think I would find another release that would hit me harder than 'To Darkness', but this song really resonates with me.
Angry kids never really stop being angry. Even when we're older, it comes in waves. This song is what that sudden hit of old anger feels like. Fucking pissed and intense, like the banjo. But balanced, collected and firm, like his voice.
Duuuude this is Lucifer from the show Lucifer “Better not to breath than to breath a lie”, “I will not speak of your sin”, “I’ll never wear wear your broken crown”, “Now in this twilight how dare you speak of grace”. Now I understand how you could see other people in this but this all I can see, it matches too perfectly
I've been scrolling through the comments for something MHA related lol 100% agree though. This describes Todoroki's relationship with Endeavor to a T. Heck, even the line "There was a way out for him" could be used in reference to Touya, who we don't see any more (*cough cough* Dabi *cough*)
Idk bout y’all but I think of a soldier who was brainwashed and hears about what’s going on back home and realizes he was lied to and this isn’t what he wants to fight for and starts to rebel. Like idkkkkkkkkk but it makes sense in my head
I really like this song. It makes me think of a boy getting abused but society thinks that the parent is doing the right thing and the boy is just being stubborn by rejecting traditions.
I totally agree Dorian doesn’t want to conform to his father’s rule - he outright rejects the crown but realises he has the ability to change the Kingdom and HE TAKES THAT CROWN AND FIXES IT also DORIAN❤️
Well Miss Crowley. These lyrics do make sense to me and i am happy to find someone that understands these words. You can like a song, but nothing beats understanding it.
Love this band and just realized that this song fits perfectly to my D&D characters relationship with his father. Mother was an elf slave, father was a powerful vampire... he was born and his father was obsessed with his connection to a prophecy involving their vampiric ancestor who had to be stopped by a holy army. My character escaped but the presence of his ancestor haunts him at every turn. He’s a hexblade flavored the powers coming from his ancestors.
this is about regulus arcturus black. he never was the chosen one but he died a heroic death. also, he never had a choice, he was born and raised to serve the datk lord. even though he stayed, he never wore his families broken crown.
This song still reminds me of Clementine in Telltale The Walking Dead. She saw how all the adults in her life failed her so she doesn't want to be like them hence the broken crown. "There was a way out for him" could refer to Lee's death. Either by Clem's hand or by him turning.
First time I heard this, I didn't give it enough credit. Now? This song fits me perfectly. Almost like it's made for me. To break my bloodline's curse is to do what I will do.
Banjos should be frbidden by law to wield this much power.

"Broken Crown"
Touch my mouth and hold my tongue
I'll never be your chosen one
I'll be home safe and tucked away
Well You can't tempt me if I don't see the day
The pull on my flesh was just too strong
Stifled the choice and the air in my lungs
Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie
'Cause when I opened my body I breathe in a lie
I will not speak of your sin
There was a way out for Him
The mirror shows not
Your values are all shot
But oh my heart, was flawed I knew my weakness
So hold my hand consign me not to darkness
So crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down
I'll never wear your broken crown
I took the road and I fucked it all away
Now in this twilight, how dare you speak of grace
So crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down
I'll never wear your broken crown
I took the road and I fucked it all away
Now in this twilight, how dare you speak of grace
So crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down
I'll never wear your broken crown
I can take the road and I can fuck it all away
But in this twilight, our choices seal our fate
yeah we watched it too
Reuben Gotts
Yeah?
I watch Y watching me...
Watch out.

I like to see everything at once.
It's a difference Y know.
If it bother Y that much - just look the other way.

What the hell is going on in this comment section...?
I'm with you.
+keybladesrus Fandoms.
I love this song
Some people like to yell out fandom redirects in the comments, and therefore get the responses of people who show them just how much of an idiot they appear to anyone not in their fandom.
Fandoms and people who say "I just like the song" or point out said fandoms
So really it's a circlejerk of stupidity.
No banjo can be so powerful!
Yes it can!
+Mikayla Heiden I was brought here by a Sam vid too! Was it an edit on Vine? It's unlikely, but we could've been brought here by the same one
All the fandoms are here... where's the rest of the SPN family?
(raises hand) late, but I'm here!
Under Wonder yep 😉
Present
Here
Sorry castiel took the long way
Angry kids never really stop being angry.
I see all of 'em fandoms out there and I'm like "This screams Shoto Todoroki" but I'm alone so let's just enjoy this masterpiece
I've been scrolling through the comments for something MHA related lol
100% agree though. This describes Todoroki's relationship with Endeavor to a T. Heck, even the line "There was a way out for him" could be used in reference to Touya, who we don't see any more (*cough cough* Dabi *cough*)
Zuko, this is about Zuko. Avatar fandom anyone? XD
Luna Morgan OH HECK YEA
Luna Morgan HELL YEAH TO BOTH
I’m an enthusiastic person ok? Good
Ayyyyee!
@@miragracestudios5104 Oh yeah this does kinda fit him at the end of the show
Yus
This song gives me the motivation to keep going
I don’t know if I’m the only one or if this even makes sense, but I feel like this song fits Regulus Blacks story.
Or even Sirius Blacks story
Idk bout y’all but I think of a soldier who was brainwashed and hears about what’s going on back home and realizes he was lied to and this isn’t what he wants to fight for and starts to rebel. Like idkkkkkkkkk but it makes sense in my head
This made me think of Clone Troopers post Order 66
this made me think of Lucifer and God, and maybe a third party that’s being spoken to. (as in, the show, Lucifer)
LOKI too
One word: Loki.
LOKIIIIIIII!Yes! Loki army gOOOOO!
I really like this song. It makes me think of a boy getting abused but society thinks that the parent is doing the right thing and the boy is just being stubborn by rejecting traditions.
Ooh yes
Talk about Dorian Havilliard! Yeah he takes up the crown, but not in the way his father wore it. He'd never wear his broken crown.
GOD I LOVE DORIAN SM
I totally agree Dorian doesn’t want to conform to his father’s rule - he outright rejects the crown but realises he has the ability to change the Kingdom and HE TAKES THAT CROWN AND FIXES IT
also
DORIAN❤️
YESSSS Or maybe Aelin????
Aww yiss Throne of Glass fandom(family)
Another Tog fan here, am I in heaven?
I freaking love this song. Its probably my favorite Mumford and Sons song.
I strangely love to rage about hypocrites when I listen to this song.
Reminds me of Loki.
Right? I love how deep this band is. It's so much smarter than most things on the charts right now.
The song reminds me a lot of my family.
Damn. Anyways good luck and keep going.
(fandom wars? I'm game! This is Loki all the way!)
Agreed.:)
Look up Broken Crown Thor & Loki by gabygal7. That is how i heard of this song, and it is an AMAZING video! All of her videos are amazing.:)
The Fangirl Rants LOKI was like my first thought when it was like "I'll never be your chosen one." Thank god i'm not the only one.
I thought of Sam Winchester 😁 But the Loki and Thor version is good too.
Oh yes. I can see that.
Well Miss Crowley. These lyrics do make sense to me and i am happy to find someone that understands these words. You can like a song, but nothing beats understanding it.
This comment section is really weird
I hear this song and my first thought is Sam Winchester.
and dean
This is a beautiful song
You still alive
Love this band and just realized that this song fits perfectly to my D&D characters relationship with his father.
Mother was an elf slave, father was a powerful vampire... he was born and his father was obsessed with his connection to a prophecy involving their vampiric ancestor who had to be stopped by a holy army.
My character escaped but the presence of his ancestor haunts him at every turn. He’s a hexblade flavored the powers coming from his ancestors.
hell yeah man!
This really is a perfect song to write to. It crosses any historical era, really.
Since everyone brought their fandom here, guess I’ll join too: this reminds me of Adam Young from Good Omens. :)
Oh my gosh I heard the first two lines of this song in a video and literally got goosebumps *-* Amazing song!
Bro fr goated song
Going to watch them on Monday, going to be the best day of my life. This song will be the highlight of my night :)
Amazing band, amazing music
this is about regulus arcturus black. he never was the chosen one but he died a heroic death. also, he never had a choice, he was born and raised to serve the datk lord. even though he stayed, he never wore his families broken crown.
this gives me either dean winchester or anakin skywalker or loki laufeyson vibes....
Two Steps From Hell, Imagine Dragons,Mumford & Sons, the legendary few.
The passion in just one of their songs is greater than that of many great bands/musicians... put together!
A broken man I stand but with a heart of diamond. Love.
Don’t look at the comments just enjoy the music.
Thanks Ciel 😏
This song still reminds me of Clementine in Telltale The Walking Dead. She saw how all the adults in her life failed her so she doesn't want to be like them hence the broken crown. "There was a way out for him" could refer to Lee's death. Either by Clem's hand or by him turning.
This is by far my favorite song by Mumford and Sons. Everything they compose is so beautiful. :'c
I cant stop listening this
As someone who barely knows a thing about music, I want to be able to play this by memory, just so I can walk anywhere, then play this when I'm bored.
First time I heard this, I didn't give it enough credit. Now? This song fits me perfectly. Almost like it's made for me. To break my bloodline's curse is to do what I will do.
edgy
@@eliegbert8121 edgy? Edgy.... I'd have to say you're wrong Mon amie. It's actually quite a different story with context.
I just won a match thanks to this song!
My team was losing so badly until I joined with this song playing in the background XD
man this is a song thats like _so_ melancholy i almost have a hard time listening to it, i dont know what its about it just hurts, he sounds so sad
