As you go through this series, remember that this is a true story - at least as much as could be captured on film after the fact. Every person you meet in the series was a real person.
This is the greatest series ever made. It's tough, but the payoff is worth it. These men were truly the Greatest Generation. ❤❤❤
Capt. Sobel did his job perfectly as their Drill Instructor.
He trained them.
He made them tough.
The toughest company in all the US Armed Forces with the best performance record.
Easy Company had some of the toughest fighting that American soldiers faced in WW2 and they consistently survived and succeeded above expectations.
They have Capt. Sobel to thank for that, at least in part.
True, we also find out that Sobel has some serious shortcomings but Sobel's commanding officer fixed that problem easily enough.
Sobel is remembered negatively due to his portrayal because he was a bit of a dick, but that was literally his job.
This story in the military is an example of when it is done right, they found out what he was good at and what he was bad at, and they managed to extract the good and interrupt when you notice things are going bad. He trained Easy, some civillian's for paratrooping and then he went on to be a Supply Officer later in the war. Supply officers might not be the most glamorous, but the war wouldn't have been won without them.
Sobels time in the military was definitively positive.
except that he wasn't a drill instructor. he was their commanding officer, and he couldn't lead in combat, which is important for combat units like the airborne.
I still delight in his fate. That being said, I hated some of the guys who made me who I am. I wouldn't have been as tough as I was if they hadn't made me half insane.
I love seeing people's reactions when they see David Schwimmer as Captain Sobel! 🤣
haha.. very unexpected
Uppottery is a small village in Devon. Like most of England, in the preparation for Operation Overlord, it found itself turned into an army camp.
General George S. Patton had a saying about training, "A pint of sweat, saves a gallon of blood." In other words, the harder, and, more strenuous you train, the better prepared you will be when you get into combat.
Lt. Harry Welsh, who you meet in this series, mailed pieces of parachute silk back to his fiance in Pennsylvania. When they got married, after the war, her wedding dress was made from the silk he had mailed home to her.
Funny she should mention that wedding dress...
I am a combat veteran ( Vietnam ) You can not possibly know the good you have just done.
thank you for this and God bless you
Be ready for an emotional roller coaster. It’s worth mentioning that everything that Sobel does in this episode either has a point that he didn’t explain, or highlights how inadequate he was a a commander
The first ep was necessary because you had to meet everyone and see where they started. But, it only gets better from here. Enjoy.
The training shown is not boot camp, the men are already soldiers in the US Army. Their training was to become paratroopers which was a voluntary service. If they failed or quit they would be reassigned to other units in the army. The training was rigorous because they would be expected to drop behind enemy lines with only the equipment and supplies they could carry with little chance of resupply until they could link up with ground forces.
Ya something like 80-85% washed out before the end.
The power of money, coming out of the Great Depression, you bet it had power! These people knew hardship. You will always remember these men and those they represent 🥰
You've heard good things? It's only considered as the GREATEST mini-series OF ALL TIME!
@@imnotyourfriendbuddy1883 Lmao Merlin doesn't even come close to touching this imo
Yeh nah mate…Beavis and Butthead was the greatest mini series…..
Band of Brothers is bonzer!!
So, first and foremost, I am a massive BoB fan, and found the channel from this video. Know that this is a massively important series that is very heavily historically accurate, and the people doing the interviews are survivors.
Second, as a Vet, thank you for doing thus, to remember those who sacrificed for all of us.
Even with some inaccuracies this is easily the best miniseries
About the parachute silk: silk was in very limited supply in the US during WWII, since most of the silk was imported from Asia, and the trade was cut off. Parachutes had a wartime priority, so silk used in parachutes did find their way back home after they were used in a jump, and used in wedding dresses.
I would say that this is one of the best most historically accurate programmes ever made, I look forward to following your journey!
Sobel was actually a great drill instructor. He was extremely strict sure, but they were training to go to war, it had to be this strict. It was in the field where he failed and did other petty stuff, but he did a great job training them.
The Sobel depicted in the series is petty, narrowminded and untrustworthy. Good trainers are cosstent where he is not. I came across a few like him during my time in the Army. They got no respect and just motivated already motivated me. Remember these men volunteered. I thiink the real Sobel was a tyrant but not as inconsistent as the one portrayed here if that's what you mean.
@@digitalbegley All I was saying is that he was a good trainer. Even the members of Easy Company has said that while they hated him, he helped them to become great soldiers.
Ive read about some XOs on the ship hated for their stricknes and tought training, but when the ship got into fight crew was greatfull for their level of training.
@@frantaf On what ship??

Welcome to CZcams. You picked a fantastic series to react to. Sadly there are only around 100,000 U.S. WWII veterans still with us. They were truly the men of the Greatest Generation. We should honor those Vets still with us and pray for those who have gone to their eternal rest.
'Coming down in a parachute, I hope it's not in the middle of a war zone', sweet summer child, that's the whole point. I will say that you picked up on a lot of stuff that I've seen other reactors baffled by, so kudos to you. You're a pretty smart cookie.
haha wishful thinking.. thank you for the kind words :) Xx
Kudos! You do a perfect job on your reactions. You don't talk over the film's dialog. We can see your reaction and hear your very short comments made between clips. I can't praise you enough!
I always enjoy finding someone new reacting to BoB! Made in 2001...with almost ALL practical effects (i.e., real!) and minimal CGI. This is a good series to be invested in. Hang on. There is so much more to come. Thanks for a good and respectful review.
You have pick a fantastic mini series to show. You did a great job of editing, keep it up. Your are going to be laughing with these boys, and crying for them, and at the end it will have changed you. 👍
You're right, that's exactly what happened. What an amazing series!
I am so glad I found you! In addition, I can’t wait to see your reaction for the rest of the series. You just made my day! ❤️
The pacific next? ;)
7:16 Private Christiansen is actor Michael Fassbender who later played a younger Magneto in the X-Men movies
20:30 That's Simon Pegg from Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, The Wolrd's End, Paul, the new Star Trek movies and some Mission Impossible movies too.
So glad to be joining you on your reaction to such an epic, important mini series. Looking forward to it.
I went to both US Navy enlisted and OCS. At the time, I was looking for a job. My sister decided to enlist so I decided to enlist with her because the recruiter told me my college GPA wasn't good enough for OCS. I had a 3.2 which I thought was poor. When my boot camp commanders found out, they told me I was an idiot and put in for OCS. They also made me a yeoman, they painted a big bull's eye on my yeoman bag. When I was running around delivering mail and messages, other boot camp commanders saw me and made me do eight count body builders which involved jumping jacks, push-ups, sit-ups. When I did go to OCS, it was harder than boot camp. Before lunch time one day, we were made to do eight count body builders while one Marine count off and another start spraying the lawn until it turned into mud. Lunch that day? BBQ ribs with bones. We had to pick the ribs. At the time, we had to square our meals. So with muddy hands, holding the ribs, we picked the ribs up with both our hands, move forward, up, to our mouth, put it back down and repeat. With the vegetables, we could use our forks. When I was in OCS there was a lady who was obese and had trouble running. So I always tried to run with her to get her motivated. On our final exam to pass the run course, I ran with her the whole time; even running backwards in front of her and talking loudly to keep her running. We barely passed. I was reprimanded again. I didn't care. She passed and became a supply officer. If you ever talk to veterans, some of them are still friends from their beginning days.
Enjoyed your reaction! I can see you are most interested in actually watching and following the story and characters and not just provinding unending commentary and predictions, which far too many reactors do these days. I hope tou keep this practice through the entire series as it is, IMO, the best and worth paying full attention to. If you do, I'm in for the entire ride 😊. Hope you can get the frame rate up on the PIP video though. It's a tad distracting.
Thanks, I hope I didn't disappoint. Haha..I managed to figure what a frame rate was.. eventually.
A heartfelt and empathetic reaction, I think you're really going to enjoy the rest of the series however I think you're gonna find some of it really hard. Good luck.
Hey snugg. Yeah I'm going with that just found your channel the reason why is because I am a world war II history bug. And anytime I can see somebody from a younger generation watching band of Brothers I have to watch. So that's why I found your channel. You my dear are in for a hell of an education and a hell of a ride. You're going to get to know these guys you're going to get to love these guys. You're going to laugh and oh yeah you're going to cry. Looking forward to watching day of days which is next. Also I'm not going to give it away but nice foreshadowing with the wedding dress. Looking forward to your next post don't wait too long. See you then ❤️💚☘️🇺🇦
Yep, you're right, that was one hell of a ride and I bet Kitty looked beautiful in her dress. Thanks for watching Xx
Good to see another new start of Band of Brothers. Enjoy it. It is a worthwhile use of your time. Good reaction. Thanks.
Not to praise Sobel, but this was his way of pressuring the men, to make the ones not totally dedicated to quit and weed out the ones that won't follow commands while toughening them up because once they're in combat they can't just quit, they can't just disobey orders, they need to learn to take everything as it comes and deal with it. It made Easy the best.
Reassigning Sobel is a punishment in his eyes and a simple transfer that solves a problem in the eyes of everyone else. He doesn't lose rank and he has extra experience to add to his military service record. Sobel is a good trainer and a lousy combat leader. It is seldom that anyone is really excellent at both. Winter is a good combat leader.
Hey i loved your reaction! I can tell its genuine. Keep it up. A lot of stuff is going to happen in the next 9 episodes. Looking forward to the next one!
Assigning Captain Sobel to Chilton Foliet was strategic really. The jump school he would be running would be for Doctors, Chaplains and other officers he wouldn't be able to bully or order around. They would have other officers to report to, not him. Sobel would have enlisted staff below him, but they would be the kind he would need to depend on to do his own job.
The reason behind drinking from you canteen is that a canteen that is not full will slosh around giving away your position.
No spoilers but info that may help. for episode 6, Bastogne have a blanket ready. It makes you feel cold somehow.Series is historically accurate with 1 major screw up; when that happens you'll get a few hundred comments telling you about it. :)
best miniseries ever made…enjoy
When Sobel cuts Spaghetti Day short to run the mountain again, you need to understand the military doesn't try to build muscle when training new recruits. Military training is all about endurance. You need to be able to outlast the enemy when both of you haven't ate or slept in several days.
Having increased strength on the battlefield can help (mostly for carrying your wounded away), but that's up to you to build if you want it. As an overall organization, the military wants you lean and efficient more than they want you bulky and slowed down.
The reason they exhaust you is to see how you hold up under extreme stress and deprivation because that's what you'll be experiencing in combat. You don't get dinner breaks or 8 hour rest periods at night. The only way to defeat the enemy is to endure the stress, exhaustion, and starvation better than him.
Love the way you edit your reactions. Well done!
Thanks Xx
Drinking out of a two liter like a BOSS!!! 😍
haha my unhealthy addiction
Sounds like the wedding dress Luitenet Harry Welsh had made from his reserve parachute he carried all across Belgium.
Given your age, you probably never saw the 2003 Battle Star Galactica. Show has a huge cult following, was the first show to take advantage of Tivo, it is intended for viewers to watch the episodes in order, and was willing to kill off major characters, which was novel at the time, and has a lot of fun twists and turns to react to. Doing a reaction to a popular series, that has a huge cult following, every week, in addition to reacting to movies, is a good way to build up a subscriber base, which you deserve.
Best series ever made about the war in Europe in WW2 !!!
Well done. This is by far the best mini series I have ever seen. And it's 99% factual. Told by the men of Easy Company. You are in for some very rough moments. But hang in there. Well worth it in the end.
28:13 "Is that a punishment or is that just passing the problem on?"
Neither, really, though Capt. Sobel definitely thinks it's a punishment.
Sobel is extremely good at training men for combat.
But he's really bad at leading them IN combat.
So Colonel Sink reassigned Sobel back to the US to do the thing he's good at: training men for combat.
This, of course, saved Easy Company from having to go into combat with Sobel as their commanding officer.
So it's not really passing the problem on because Sobel is not a problem when he's training men for combat.
It's actually solving the problem and using Sobel for what he's really good at.
"It’s for you lads actually, so you can get your mince pies on some of this Jerry clobber, if you know what I mean."
"Not really."
This never fails to make me laugh 🤣
CZcams finally knows me. Recommended this video and instantly subbed. This is my favorite series and I can't wait to see your journey.
Thanks for being on the journey with me
@amylorraine3776 I haven't watched 10 yet. It's always sad to see it come to an end and I like building it up.
If you're going all the way with this...be prepared to grow, laugh, learn and suffer with these characters. The first episode is in some ways my favorite, if only for the innocence and the fact that I know what lies ahead for these men. This was when their biggest threats were "Army noodles with ketchup" and Captain Sobel...it's brilliant, and a true story. Hard to call this a TV show honestly, it's a 12 hour Saving Private Ryan in quality...CURRAHEE! ♠
David was type casted I believe initially to not be taken seriously. Ross is no longer one of your FRIENDS. The wedding dress comment is going to come around later, I wonder if it was the same one.
@@krisfrederick5001As if Kitty would ever part with it.

Great review. The series is fantastic I have watched it many times and I always love watching reactions of first time watchers discovering it. As you said you become invested very quickly in the show and the characters. I encourage you to pay special attention to the interviews at the start of each episode. First off they are the real men, surving members of Easy company telling their stories, and they are cut in such a way they they really do a good job in introducing each episdoe. Sobel was a great training officer, but he was not a good at leading men in the field. So transferring him to a training position was making best use of the resources. An interesting note is that in later years despite their pesonal dislike for the man most of the men of Easy Company who made it through the war credited the hard training they received from Sobel as one of the reasons they were able to survive.
When I was in basic training and we went on our 20 mi March The drill instructor that used to say take five smoke them if you got them and while we were all relaxed they would throw tear gas at us. Either you got your gas mask on in time or you suffered from the tear gas and that wasn't a pretty sight
him being promoted isnt a punishment because he didnt do anything wrong but it was also a way to put him somewhere where he can be useful. so sometimes theres people in the military who are incompetent but they arent really doing anything that is really punishable. so they fix the problem by promoting and transferring them. problems solved. they get a different assignment and the guys get someone else who will be able to work with them better
Sobel doesn’t return Winters’s salute. Store this in your memory you will need that memory before the series ends.
We salute the rank, not the man ;) A great line from Winters.
Currahee Mountain is the highest peak in the Chattahoochee State Park in Georgia. You can actually go today, and run the three miles up and the three miles down. I am waiting for any popular youtube reactors to attempt it.
Yep, I'd watch that too.
when i was younger i was a member of E/506th living history unit based on the East Coast and we would have many of the org Troopers attend events with us. So got to meet many of the them scallywags that you will see portrayed in this series. BUT just so you know many events shown were changed to fit time/story ect.. for all the real details the many books and videos about this unit are worth checking out and even about certain battles so you have a better understanding of the events being shown.
So sad to think that of everyone that was on the troop ship to England, over 50% of them did not survive to get back to England after the first stage of the Normandy campaign
23:00 Sobel displays his incompetence in multiple ways and it should’ve been enough to prove his inability to lead in combat. He falls for an impersonation of his superior and is so panicked that he doesn’t realize it’s can’t be him because the Major is on leave. Also, even if you were ordered to cut the fence, wouldn’t you fix it to make sure nothing gets out? Also also, what happened to the Major? Did Sobel think he just ran away?
20:06 okay sneaky 😂
You're going to love this series, loving the video from NC
Who me? haha. You're right, I loved it!
This is a great series, but boy it can get to you.
A great way to introduce the characters imo.
There is some dramatisation for TV, but generally it is about as close as you can get to feeling like your going through it. I look forward to seeing your reactions to the rest of the series. 👍
Actually, more was downplayed than was dramatized. I won’t mention or debate specifics so as not to give spoilers, but this is one show I take exception to the “dramatized” accusation.
@@dgpatter fair point, tbh I did think of the downplayed side as well, but like you I don't want to spoil anything. I haven't read the book so my knowledge is limited to the series and yt comments, and my own history knowledge. 👍
great first series to start on. subbed.
Captain Sobel is portrayed as a cruel, petty instructor in this episode, but there is a purpose to almost everything he does. Two examples - First, the punishment for drinking water during the night march: The soldiers' destination could be the deserts of Africa or other places with no reliable water supply. The army would evaluate their men's ability to carry out tasks without reliable water resupply to know how far they can be pushed. Second - Sobel's anti-social discipline: Taking men from all walks of life - Jews and Italians from New York, men from the South, Irishmen from Boston, boys from farms and big cities - they needed something to have in common for unit cohesion and brotherhood, and collectively hating one person, in this case the commander, brought them together.
They also needed to be pushed to the very limits as this is an elite unit and they could only keep the very best so something like 80% washed out before the end.
True, they do have to get used to harsh circumstances, but I'd never thought about collectively hating Sobel bringing them closer together, but you are absolutely correct; it probably did.
I like your style. I plan to watch this going forward. I’m a new sub !
Thanks! :)
You’re going to love this series as you go along. I’m a new subscriber here and like your channel very much. Hope you take some movie advice from us in the future. Good luck here
Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!
You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you.
I enjoyed watching your reaction. One misconception people have when they watch this series is that Easy Company was the only company in the regiment that had to endure such brutal training. Easy company was one of nine rifle companies in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division. The 506th started out at Camp Toccoa with over 8500 men and needed to whittle the regiment down to under 2500 men leaving only the best of the best which is absolutely necessary if you're going to be jumping behind enemy lines. You need men that will not quit.
Also might I suggest that you don't skip over the summary at the end of each episode. In this episode it was general Eisenhower's (supreme commander of the allied forces in Europe) written address the he sent out the all the troops of the multinational force that was taking part in the Normandy invasion.
Understanding that this is a literary device helps. Easy stands as a small unit that helps us understand all of the 506. The 506th helps us understand the whole 101st, which helps us understand, eventually, all the Allied troops. Easy got documented be Stephen Ambrose had access to collect the memories before this greatest generation passed away.
Sobel was hard on the men to make them tough and get them ready for anything but I see most of his pettiness with Winters is because he is jealous. He knows Winters is a good leader and tactician, better than him, and he is majorly jelly over it so he punches Winters down every chance he gets.
Greatest "mini" series ever made!
E Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division

Thank you for watching this series.🎸🎼🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵
What Easy actually did to Sobel was worse, far worse, than the trick with the barbed-wire fence.
Hi Amy! Great reaction. Really appreciate you soaking it all in. Too bad you saw Saving Private Ryan before you started the channel. This is the series that followed SPR's success. So kind of a companion piece for Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.
Quick question: where are you from? Because I was wondering about that war museum you mentioned.
Thanks for the lovely words! I grew up in France and the museum is in Caen, Normandy. I'd love to go back one day and experience it as a full-grown adult. The bunkers are still all lined up along the beaches. You can visit the Normandy American Cemetery where 9,387 American soldiers are buried and a big wall was built with the names of 1557 soldiers whose bodies were not found. An unforgettable sight to see if ever you visit France.
'Day of Days' is next. Here we go.
Great choice, great show, great story ... I hope you enjoy it 😁
Yep, it was well worth the watch
Ahh, the wedding dress...

Other then sitting in the hanger geared up, I have no memory of my first jump.
That sounds terrifying!
It IS odd seeing David Schwimmer play this role when juxtaposed to his role as the affable Ross on Friends.
Eating spaghetti and then running Currrahe is excellent training, what are these guys going to do if they're all eating and all of a sudden they're attacked by the Germans, say please don't attack us now we have a digest our food.
How lovely that you care about this at all... (Written after you mention attending a War museum.) -Sincerely. (EDIT: 'Not to mention you swigging out of that 2ltr Coke like a boss! )
Funny that you mention that parachute dress... just keep watching.
Would have loved to see kitty in that dress
@amylorraine3776 "I'm sure she looked great." (You can say what you said. No soldier in their right mind would say that though. Never say you'd like to see your buddy's girl. Especially when your buddy is a hard-core survivor.)
water discipline the training to not drink in conditions where water is not available or hard to find
Good luck, god bless you, see you in the landing zone.
You will get to know the characters like family! Also, please realise that while for the most part this is historically correct it's also based on the recollections of the soldiers. The truth can be subjective.
16:00 into the vid....Capt Sobel used his PISTOL to point at soldiers.
I would have ripped him a new one, Capt and all, if he did that while I was there.
Not drinking water out of your canteen, excellent training. There may be a be time when you're pinned down for a couple days in battle with no water. U train for every possible life or death situation and that's why Captain sobel can train me any day of the week but I will not follow him in battle
Hey, Snugg-Buggs.
First time watching you, yup you'll get invested.

I was going to watch this show over the weekend but then Captain Sobel canceled my weekend pass :/
hi amy good reaction but its better if you be in the round and movie on the screen
salut to you and wait for second part if you are brave
😉🤙
Be warned - BoB will touch your heart - 10 episodes that show everything about the human condition, especially if you are a bloke, some aspects good, some bad.
Ross disappears rather quickly
David Schwimmer was the perfect person for this role because, well, I think America was getting tired of him AND Ross. We were already ready to 'hate' him.
Haha and he played the role so well
I can't with this framerate, sorry.
35:15 " Dropping on a parachute - I hope it isn't into a war-zone" Yes, she's young, but this degree of ignorance ..................? The fact that she has now chosen to comment on BoB in spite of this, shows that she is only interested in gathering views
I knew they were dropping into a war-zone.. it's called wishful thinking 😆😉
The framerates here don't match up. Choppy on the source video. Yes, I know it's meant to be just a reference, but it's extremely jarring/distracting. You seem nice, so I'll subscribe when you pull it together.
Advice for reacting =) VERY GOOD reaction and exactly the type of Reaction most of us like!
Make sure the video clips are loud enough for us to listen to with you. We dont want to watch someone watching a movie, we want to watch and hear it WITH YOU while wtahcing YOU closely on the important scenes.
Dont be an influencer that talks and yaps during the entire movie or wears clothes to how off boobs/behinds...most dont care of flibbertygibbets or influencer twits.
Music- not sure if you react to music, but if you do, dont ever stop the song to talk and yap. The music was meant to be listened to without pause....(lol..8-tracks)
Not hard on the eyes.....Dont need beautiful people, just reactors that are NOT scary looking and easy on the eyes to watch
I think you will become a top reactor if you keep doing them like this =)
Thanks for the advice :)
Testosterone doesn't make you fight your mindset does. Silly statement of yours
Great story, great reaction! Looking forward to see many more from you. Subscribed also ;-)
A lot of people speak of how young these men look. there were many who lied about their ages in order to join the military . The youngest American to serve in WWII was Calvin Graham who finagled the system and enlisted in the Navy at the age of twelve.

Damn, he was still a baby
"The power of money". Keep in mind, the U.S. was still in the Great Depression. An extra fifty dollars per month was a huge incentive.

100% accurate.. Lots of tears and laughter through the whole series.
