An excerpt from the program notes:
"When Simian Duo commissioned me, they specifically asked for a piece about friendship and the distance that keeps people apart but can’t keep spirits down after they had heard my piece No Way Home. The piece is meant to reflect their friendship: strong and resilient, steadfast and true, yet separated by acres upon acres of hillsides and prairieland for a majority of the year. I always try to write music with a strong emotional core, to try and access the places we rarely find outside of our own minds and hearts. I hope that this piece makes them think of their paths, their incredible ability to bring people together, their uncanny knack for having the vision and determination to make a project like this spring off the page and come to life, and most of all:
I hope it makes them think of their friend."
