@Queen_D Dont blame science for that, blame people. All science does is provide results of an experiment given. In the rare exception that we have Laws for things, science doesn't provide a fixed, complete or "correct" answer from any given result. Science is not inherently Mathematics, where the only answer you're supposed to come up with is the correct one (exception: it's a Law, so it will have a math equation.) How we interpret those results is a different story. People are the ones who skew scientific results, or even experiments, or just assert their profession on commoners, to fit their own personal agenda. A good example of this, staying relevant to this channel, is a video Afope made talking about fixing protein overload, there was a study she referenced that using a certain sulfate caused protein loss. This was the solution to solving the protein overload problem, but you can easily picture how those in the natural hair community would see these results, and "cancel" sulfates entirely
My water is so hard you’re the first I’ve ever heard mention chelating shampoo. Ive never tried a product with EDTA and now all my hair misery makes sense
I also didn't know what was going on with my hair before. It was always dry, brittle and frizzy. I also had build up on the scalp, and I didn't understand why. I thought I had only a sensitive and dry scalp. After all it is the minerals of hard water! I finally realized that ..
As someone that grew up on PBS and enjoys watching “How It’s Made” I fully appreciate how scientific, informative, and (most importantly) not boring your videos are! Your channel is SO IMPORTANT! Now I know WHY and HOW the product might work for me and why my hair needs those ingredients. Thank you! 🥰❤️

I mean you are BOSS! Never knew I could find out if I lived in a hard water area so easily! I’ve always been told that I have to have a water test done, but after seeing your UK link I googled and four or five links down sure enough there was a map of the US hard water areas. super awesome and so glad to know that I am only in a moderately hard water area.
Man my hair has been falling out a lot when I shower and is so dry. I live in Texas and need to put a water purifier thing on my shower head. U think this will help with my issue? Because a 5k water softener system is not in my budget, Thank u
@@Zisjejk I'm in Texas also and way out in the country with a well so super hard water. I put one in The shower head and it has helped. I have waist-length completely Virgin Hair it has not even been touched with a blow dryer or curling iron since it grew back after I had chemo even still it was dry and breaking and Frizzy and horrible. With the water softener thing I don't notice as much breaking and frizz. I would recomend trying it, it can't hurt.
I used shampoos with harsh ingredients on a regular until I discovered it was the cause of my scalp/hair issues (drying, itchy, burning and tender--every now and then flakes). I'm glad to know that I can use a mild cleanser (vegan, organic and or natural) to do the job in cleansing my hair/scalp. Also, I planned to detox once a month (ACV/bentonite clay).
Same with the design essentials almond and avacado shampoo 4:55 It cleanses so well, yet you're literally able to finger detangling within and it leaves your hair soft once rinsed!
@blackqueen5201 this is late but same! For some reason actually, whenever I used the conditioner afterwards, it knotted up my hair like crazy! I'm not sure if it was because my hair needed a trim or I had a bad batch but it was a no. It seemed to undo whatever softness/detangling the shampoo provided lol
OMG!!! I had to stop mid video cuz you my friend are hilarious! I'm so glad I found someone that understands my hi po struggles. I really appreciate you giving us so much knowledge on how to properly care for our hair cuz this journey is rough..
Local honey is supposed to help with hay fever. It has to for real be local bees and honey not a local name slapped on or packaged locally, Ive seen that.
I love you hunny! My name is christina and I have just found you! I have gone out and bought some of these products you like a and holy cow! I'm a new woman! Thank you so much
What would say about the Shea moisture Jamaican black castor oil shampoo. I use it to clarify my hair but it doesn’t have any Sulphates in them. Do you think it is a clarifying shampoo or not?
That's a cleansing shampoo not so much a clarifying shampoo while you don't need sulfates to fully clarify your hair you do need clarifying surfactants and I don't believe that shampoo has that, what's in there I think they have very mild surfactants.
Very interesting, I’ve never paid much attention to shampoos, I have always focused on conditioners... now I know better and I’m looking forward to putting my newly acquired shampoo knowledge to action. Thanks so much for sharing 🙏🏽 I’ve been binging your videos, they are so fun, entertaining and practical...not to mention scientific and quality knowledge... and pretty, I love the aesthetics in them.
oh dear I'm not sure if anyone already said this to you, but if you suffer from hay fever please stop honey ASAP! Honey is the concentrate of the pollen and hay fever is the allergy to pollen
Okay so about your hay fever. I've never tried this, but I recently read the following: apparently eating honey helps your body to accept the polls a little bit more. They say that eating honey from somewhere closeby and all year around helps the best. Honestly, idk if this works since I've never tried it myself but it seems logical. My hay fever isn't that bad so medicines are strong enough to me
I rarely use heavy products unless I’m going to an event and need hairspray/mousse so no need for clarifying shampoos unless I’m doing a chemical treatment. I also like Camille Rose but they don’t need to put an oil in a shampoo
I LOVE the As I Am cowash! I have low porosity fine wavy hair and it still works great for me! I use it when I just really want to wash my hair but its not quite dirty enough yet.
This is the best video I've watched in such a longgggg time! I cannot thank you enough for it. Literally a life changer! It's all I could've asked for and more. I learned so much about how to care for my hair from it. I'd love to see you make a series going through all steps a wash day process in detail, with this video explaining the first step!
I remembered you mentioned the Tresemme before and picked it up for Tesco(It was on sale for 3 euro). It didn't overall strip my hair but it definitely cleansed my scalp. I was shook! Thank you!
My second video I’ve watched of yours and “I’m a real one!” 🙌🏽 I’m not just saying this, but I like you so much! Your personality is awesome. I wish I could be friends with you in real life. I don’t find many people that I just instantly think “what a lovely person! I would love to become friends with her.” Anyway, I just thought you should know! You’re so genuine and I love that about you. I’m going to go pick up your shampoo and co-wash recommendation. Somehow I have never tried either one, but look forward to trying them now. Have a blessed day! ☺️
I don't comment on anyone's CZcams too tough but GIRL this video made me laugh, I already hit that subscribe button due to the previous videos (Binge watching) now I've just pressed the Notification bell. I love the content, very informal but with a splash of humour! (And I'm a relaxed head)
Hasn't it? Been going through the Deep conditioner I bought, yesterday, and am about to use, today, after having a very disappointing twa, two days ago, abd losing what curl I had. I am very pleased to say, following some food, but less ibtebsyce advice, I bought well. I am not expecting immediately miraculous results, but glad to know I will be on the journey to improving my hair and wasting less money.
Turns out all of my shampoos including those targetting sensitive and dry skin/hair and marketed for everyday use, even those from the pharmacy... have sulfates in them. My god, you might just have changed my life. Thank you for this video, definitely going to check your chanel and listen to everything you have to say:)) !
I love all your videos. I’ve just discovered them. Wish I found u a couple months ago when I was first starting my hair journey. Your the perfect combination of happy and sciencey.
Hi new subbie here! And I know I'm late but I've heard stinging nettles tea is VERY beneficial for hayfever and ragweed type allergies hope you see this so u can try it and see helps you. Thank you for ALL your hard work and help🤩🥳♥️
I had to pause the video just to comment about Camille Rose to say 🙋♀️ I'm one person who wouldn't use the Camille Shampoo Rinse mainly because it has Castor Oil. I don't like or want my products to make my hair thicker. If they take it out I'm all for trying it though lol. So pleaseee mention another one that is really good for the 1% population
Tip for the hayfever: tell your doctor you have hayfever and decide what medicine is best to take since its your first time getting it. I suffer from it all year round and I used to take drugstore nasal spray for extended periods of time, which isnt good🤦 so I use a nasalspray named fluticason and a tablet named desloratadine. ask your doctor for medicine
Goodness, you are not only so knowledgeable, but you explain the whats, whys and wherefores so clearly and precisely. I had no idea about mineral deposits, chelating shampoos / ingredients. 👍🏾 Great video, thanks fot sharing and educating us so charmingly😍. New high porosity subbie ❤️🇬🇧🇯🇲
Yes!!!!🎉🎉 As I Am is/was my jam till when it finished two days ago, now idk what to use. I need something sustainable but it’s not always here in Nigeria, and my source couldn’t come last month thanks to you-know-what😒 Yes please, give us natural alternatives apart from ACV...😊
Afope!! Awesome videos! Do you have recommendations for any other Shampoos for Clarifying with EDTAs? They don't have the Tresemme 2in1 shampoo here in the US.
I stopped using products that build up. I use a sulfates free clarifying shampoo. It’s gentle but because I don’t use products like hard gels, or. Products that have oil and butter in the first five ingredients I don’t experience hardly any products build up.
Hi Fops 🖐🏽 OG subbie here. Super informative as usual ! Could you do a follow up video on natural alternatives, as thats actually something I’m experimenting with at the moment 😊
would love love love to see your opinions on natural alternatives! i'm hoping acv and african black soap will be there bc that's what i was hoping to get your take on here
Hello again! I watched yesterday and tried to comment... then I realized the video was gone! So glad you got things figured out. 5:14 is reaaaal talk 😜 you make it so easy for us to go out and get our hands on reasonable hair care. But yes, I would totally watch the follow up on natural ingredients! We hope you recover soon!! ❣️❣️
Nadine!!! Hey girl! - I knowwww 🙃I had THE WORST technical difficulties this week. The video kept having glitches when I uploaded it so I had to take it down. It was annoying me too much 😂 lmaooo 5:14 - you guys are starting to see my crazy side sooner than I expected 😂Thanks for the well wishes too!
Hi Afope! I'm a new subscriber! Thank you for sharing your insights and knowledge. I wanted to ask you if the As I am coconut co-wash is a low PH shampoo? Because I read somewhere that you need to use a shampoo that matches the PH of your scalp and hair shaft. IT should be between 4.5-5.5. So I was just curious if Ph is important while deciding which shampoo to use. Thanks!
So I’ve heard that 2 in 1 shampoos are not great for the hair (basically the conditioner wants to “close” and smooth the cuticle, while the shampoo wants to “open” the cuticle for cleaning) so it’s interesting that you prefer we use them.
I'm a real one. I know that women are normally your demographic, but what about men who have natural hair and are trying to grow and have the best hair they can have? Those of us fighting thinning, balding, and want to retain and grow. I make all of my own products and have seen some good results but I feel that it could be so much better. Watching you I'm learning quite a bit but it seems like the info is geared towards women, which is great, but I really need help sis. I would love to get a consultation.
usually the same applies. Women especially black women are suffering from thinning and balding too only difference is ours isn't from DHT as much as men's is.
So interesting !!! I would really love natural alternatives too :B I just found a detox shampoo with a bit of kaolin that works well for me, but I'm still trying out new things
Okay. To summarize for myself: I probably don't need a clarifying shampoo because I don't normally use products. Clarifying shampoo gets rid of product buildup. I didn't know that. I probably don't need chelating EDTA ingredients because hard water isn't an issue in my area. Co-washes are probably shampoo conditioner combo, cleansing conditioners for people who wash more than once a week, perhaps due to exercise. That would be me, but that would require chelating occasionally. Would separate shampoo and conditioner cause a need for chelation?
I'm in the US and I'm holding the Camille Rose Sweet Ginger Cleaning Rinse in my hands and none of the ingredients you listed are listed on this bottle. The US version is not the same as the UK version.
@@mizzmention8555 it's the same for her other recommendation, the Tresemme 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. Not only does the US not have that product but also the ingredient label she shows on the screen doesn't even match the product she's talking about or the link of it in the description box.
@@ceptember. l can understand a product not being sold in both countries, mayyyybe she had a mix up with the shampoos or they may have changed their ingredients 🤷🏽♀️ The Camille Rose interests me because I'm quite a fan though I've not used their shampoo 🤷🏽♀️. I note that she said ginger as the 2nd ingredient which indicates she's reading from the correct label and the quality is what it's supposed to be (??) so l have no idea. Occasionally you hear of companies that do that kind of thing as well as slyly changing ingredients... I do hope that that's not the case because I am a fan and tbf to this youtuber she's a trichologist and appears to know her content very well so again🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️. I'll definitely be keeping my ear to the ground with the CR though l may even do a bit of 🔎🔎before my next purchase lol
Thanks for bringing this to my attention girls, I know many beauty companies have slightly different formulations in the U.K. vs US due to regulations on certain ingredients/suppliers etc. I’m so sorry about the confusion - I’ll look into this.
Do you have videos on the ph of shampoos and conditioners and how the effect hair and scalp? I have read about low ph shampoos and everything else is way better for hair but curly hair specially. What do you think?
So I've been online and purchasing the tresseme 2 in 1 and it's no longer available in the US. All they offer is the 3 in 1 and its 7 ingredients short of the 2 in 1. I ordered from two different, well known, vendors and both vendors sent the 3 in 1 and also visited the tresseme website. Missing ingredients include: 1. Phenoxyethanol 2. Polysorbate 20 3. PPG 12 (they now only use 9) 4. Silica 5. Sodium Hydroxide 6.TEA sulfate 7. Hexyl Cinnamal
TFS! My hair isn't really a fan of products that have ginger in them so no, I dont really like that camille shampoo, i find that some of the sulfate free shampoos can be more stripping than the ones that have sulfates, depending on the formulation. For environmental reasons i opt for sulfate free.
Quarantine has left my stock pretty depleted and Amazon is no longer prioritising “non-essential” items, so it’s been pretty awks for me having to navigate how to cleanse my hair without using my clarifying shampoo every week because that is what I have the most of at the moment. Send help.

This means a lot! Thank you so much 🥰🙏🏽
@Queen_D Dont blame science for that, blame people. All science does is provide results of an experiment given. In the rare exception that we have Laws for things, science doesn't provide a fixed, complete or "correct" answer from any given result. Science is not inherently Mathematics, where the only answer you're supposed to come up with is the correct one (exception: it's a Law, so it will have a math equation.)
How we interpret those results is a different story.

Fisayo A. You can buy as I am at boots
Rebekah W I’m in Nigeria, not England.
Noted sis. Let me go and start working on that video then. Can you try Jumia?
Afope Atoyebi ayyy! 😊 hmm I’ll try that. Thank you.
@@AfopeAtoyebi casabella too
Afope!! Awesome videos! Do you have recommendations for any other Shampoos for Clarifying with EDTAs? They don't have the Tresemme 2in1 shampoo here in the US.
I know I'm late but local bee pollen helps🙂 you ingest it and it calms things down a bit
I’m a new fan. Linwood sent me. ❤️❤️😷 can you do one on hair color and ppd?
New subscriber alert 🙋♀️. Lol.
Hello. A friend just introduced your channel. Hope I keep loving your content. This video was great! Thanks for this 🙏
Ayyyy, welcome, welcome :) I hope you keep loving them too 😂. Thanks girl
Wow, a year ago you only had 500 subscribers?! The 40k is well-deserved!
Great video, always here for the science behind the hair 🙌🏾✨✨✨
You outchea sis
Great video!!! Literally taking notes! Yesss, would be great if you could post a vid on natural alternatives!!??
Thanks Zara! 🥰 Noted on the natural alternatives
I stopped using products that build up. I use a sulfates free clarifying shampoo. It’s gentle but because I don’t use products like hard gels, or. Products that have oil and butter in the first five ingredients I don’t experience hardly any products build up.
Personality so infectious ❤
Thank you 🥰🥰
Could you talk about Shikakai, Apple CIder Vinegar, Quasil, and Castile Soap ?
Hi Fops 🖐🏽 OG subbie here. Super informative as usual ! Could you do a follow up video on natural alternatives, as thats actually something I’m experimenting with at the moment 😊
Hey girl! Thanks girl, glad this helped! Literally EVERYONE has said this natural alternatives video must happen. There's no two ways about it now 😂
would love love love to see your opinions on natural alternatives! i'm hoping acv and african black soap will be there bc that's what i was hoping to get your take on here
just what I needed to watch prior to my next wash day! I always go sulfate-free tbh but will defo try your recommendations! Thanks sis
My pleasure sis
Thanks!
Wow you really educate me on this topic, thank you
My pleasure! 🥰🙏🏽
Greetings from singapore! Love love love your vid thank you for creating this! Highly appreciate it. Any chance to do any Korean hair care products?
This was so incredibly helpful! Thank you! Didn’t event know there was a difference in water. I’ll definitely look into hard and soft water.
This has helped me so much ❤❤❤
I thought I had hey fever all year round until I stopped using fabric conditioner and I haven’t had it since I banished it from my home
So I’ve heard that 2 in 1 shampoos are not great for the hair (basically the conditioner wants to “close” and smooth the cuticle, while the shampoo wants to “open” the cuticle for cleaning) so it’s interesting that you prefer we use them.
I don’t like silicones in clarifying shampoos because they will have a film..
@@marleyhill34 thank you
one of the most informative natural hair videos I've watched - Loved it !
Love your videos! ‘Liked’ this one before it even started
Hi please make video on drugstore brands like tresemme Pantene and others and which to choose i have low porosity hair
Thanks for sharing this message. I am excited to try the tresemme products.
So interesting !!! I would really love natural alternatives too :B
I just found a detox shampoo with a bit of kaolin that works well for me, but I'm still trying out new things
Would separate shampoo and conditioner cause a need for chelation?
i would love to hear your take on the carols daughter coco crème line. especially for low porosity possibly damaged hair
I'm in the US and I'm holding the Camille Rose Sweet Ginger Cleaning Rinse in my hands and none of the ingredients you listed are listed on this bottle. The US version is not the same as the UK version.
Well thats odd?? 🤔🤔🤔
@@mizzmention8555 it's the same for her other recommendation, the Tresemme 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner. Not only does the US not have that product but also the ingredient label she shows on the screen doesn't even match the product she's talking about or the link of it in the description box.
@@ceptember. l can understand a product not being sold in both countries, mayyyybe she had a mix up with the shampoos or they may have changed their ingredients 🤷🏽♀️
The Camille Rose interests me because I'm quite a fan though I've not used their shampoo 🤷🏽♀️.
@@AfopeAtoyebi Hey nice to hear from you 🙋🏾♀️. There's nothing to apologise for... that's circumstances beyond your control
Would love a video with low cost alternatives.
I have coarse wavy hair and just subscribed! Your channel is very informative, and I feel like I can incorporate a few of your tips on my hair too 😊
This was extremely informative. I look forward to you doing a video on natural alternatives.
Very informative as usual. I don’t suppose you know where I can buy your shirt? I love it! Thanks x
Do you have videos on the ph of shampoos and conditioners and how the effect hair and scalp? I have read about low ph shampoos and everything else is way better for hair but curly hair specially. What do you think?
you are AMAZING for this info and a lifesaver! THANK YOU!!!
Missing ingredients include:
1. Phenoxyethanol
2. Polysorbate 20
3. PPG 12 (they now only use 9)
4. Silica
5. Sodium Hydroxide
6.TEA sulfate
7. Hexyl Cinnamal
Love this!! Thank you so much, sis!! I'm a real one ;) God bless you! Xx
Gurlll you put the lemon in the squeezer upside down! 😂 new subbie alert 🚨 thank you for this video!!
LMAOOOO I knew something about it wasn’t right. Thanks for subbing 🙏🏽🥰
Afope Atoyebi haha of course!! Xo 😘
Very very informative and entertaining! New subbie
TFS! My hair isn't really a fan of products that have ginger in them so no, I dont really like that camille shampoo, i find that some of the sulfate free shampoos can be more stripping than the ones that have sulfates, depending on the formulation. For environmental reasons i opt for sulfate free.
Love it! Very informative! Where do natural clays e.g. bentonite, rhassoul etc come into the mix?
Thanks girl! I figured the video would be too long if i tried to cover natural cleansers too so I figured it would be a good follow up. Right?
@@AfopeAtoyebi cant wait for the next video :D
Hi, did you ever make the vide of the natural alternative to cleansing? I just found you on YT today and would love to see it if you made it. Thx!
Stephanie Morris Hey girl! I did indeed it’s the one called 100% natural shampoo for natural hair
