  • The Golden State Warriors are coming off a phenomenal season, winning their first NBA championship title in 40 years. Last summer I spent time with Harrison Barnes as he trained to prepare for the upcoming season. One of the highlights from our time together was filming a workout in Los Angeles. In the middle of filming, NBA Legend, Jerry West, came through to the gym and was giving Harrison pointers and advice about life and the game of basketball. It was one of the coolest days I've ever captured on film and now I finally have the opportunity to share this with everyone! Check out this extremely rare footage, exclusively on Thru The Lens! Thank you to trainer Tyrell Jamerson!
    Note: This was NOT filmed at the Lakers practice facility. This was a private residential home gym. This video has nothing to do with the Lakers or NBA

    To have that one-on-one tutoring from Jerry West....That's something you tell your grandkids about.

    The Logo was an incredible pull up shooter. Barnes is learning from one of the best ever and a true master at that shot.

    Jerry west probably the most underrated player ever mans was so good that they gave him the MVP even tho he didn’t win finals 🤣

    • @Poloskii
      @Poloskii Před 3 lety +2

      He was so dominate at 6'3 and is overlooked asf because he's the greatest GM of all time. He's also a all time point guard probably top 5. You don't just average 40 points in the finals randomly

    I love hearing West say that that quick pull up jumper was unstoppable because that was Jerry's favorite move and it was unstoppable - either going to his right or his left. lol He even mentioned "one hard dribble". Jerry was so great and he did everything he told Harrison to do.

    • @WVURxMan
      @WVURxMan Před 8 lety +3

      Wei Qi That sudden pull up jumper is unstoppable and has been in every era of the game. Unless the defender can read your mind and can predict the moment you pull the trigger on the drive, you will have him beat. It takes years of muscle memory work to perfect, too.

    • @weiqi8956
      @weiqi8956 Před 8 lety +3

      WVURxMan It was definitely unstoppable in Jerry West's case because he had an extremely quick release, had an excellent vertical (check out the video on Wilt Chamberlain Archive showing his jumper), and he could get it off going to either his left or right. He also had excellent technique so his shot was consistent and it didn't hurt that Jerry was 6'5" at the guard position.

      @@weiqi8956 One more thing Jerry had going for him was he had extremely long arms. Tommy Heinsohn called West a "freak" because of his long arms. That really helped him get his shot off against taller defenders.

    Saw Jerry West use those same moves he showed Harrison way back in the day when he played for the Lakers. Keep it simple. Its all fundamentals folks.

    The way jerry west is talking about scoring proves that they could play in this area. I mean he had the most deadly pull up in the game then their was Michael then Kobe but this guy was the truth

    Alot of people don't really comprehend how great and what an advanced shooter Jerry West was back in the 60-70s he would make them with ease and his stroke was like 1990s year 2000 type form for someone playing in that era his technique was literally decades ahead of his time!

    I have a feeling that this guy will be the best player on the warriors team soon... or maybe second best coz of Steph. His potential is bigger than both Klay and Draymond. Plus he is a clear-cut and classy person with no drama. Just keep your head down and it will soon come to you.

    What does getting your feet set even mean? Are there people out there shooting off of one foot consistently that i don't know about? Are they saying to be flat footed when you catch the ball? Shooting has so many myths attached to it, and i'm calling this one out because nobody ever explains what it means. Harrison shot .408 from three last year with a TS of over .57; he seems to be doing a pretty damn good job despite "often times not having his feet set." This isn't a shot at Logo either. This is something that's been tossed out by everybody dating back decades. Given his pecking order on the ball club in regards to shot attempts; you really can't play much better scoring wise.

    • @WVURxMan
      @WVURxMan Před 8 lety +7

      tygeezy It means to settle your momentum as you jump. The closer you are to jumping straight up and down vs floating in a direction in midair, the less you have to account for the momentum of your body carrying the ball the direction you are moving in the air. Which means that you can just use pure jumpshot muscle memory that you've been developing your entire career vs making your body sort of freestyle against the momentum. There is legit science and common sense to "getting you feet set."
