    Love hoka shoes, the cliftons and rincons used to be my training and racing combo. Strayed away from them though because of the cost and poor durability. Shoes felt dead and it felt a slug getting them to 300 miles. These days i just go for value. Got a peg 38 & infinity run 2 for £95 the other day so that'll do my training for next year!

    My first running shoe when I started in Dec 2021 was the Bondi 7. I was 94kg, 6ft tall, never had an injury, bought them for £90 from some website, ran 300km and sold them on eBay for £77 so it was almost a free shoe for me. Liked it, never loved it but still have a couple of other Hokas in my rotation, a Clifton 8 and Speedgoat 5.

      That is some cheap K's you got out of that shoe Nikolay! Great price you bought them for and amazing they got £77!

      @@benparkestheextramile That’s not even my best value shoe! Just before LM this year I emailed Wolverine UK / Saucony about wanting to repair a small tear in the tongue stitching of my almost new Endorphin Speed 2s. They asked for some photos and just sent me all my money back asking me to keep the shoes! I used them for LM, the Hertfordshire Half last weekend and plan to use them in Valencia next month.

    Nice review 👍 and good luck with the new channel. Think I may have to pick up a pair as I ran two 50 milers in the Bondi 7. They have nearly 500km in them and are still my go to for recovery runs 😁

    • @benparkestheextramile
      @benparkestheextramile  Před rokem +2

      Still a very solid option of running ultras in, especially races as they are so stable.. despite all the cushioning. Thanks Kieron!

    I'm still very happy with my Bondi 6's for slow recovery runs

      The 7's had a very weird fit for me. Couldn't quite get the size right unfortunately.

    I’m always behind the pack. But I’m at over 1000 miles in my Bondi 7’s. They’re at about the end of their run. It’s been 2 years. Bondi 8’s are on their way! Hopefully they’ll hold up!

    Review is spot on. It is too narrow and gives me blister on the inside of the sole after a few kms which is a shame as it’s very comfy when initially put on!!

    Running stresses my body out. I plan on having 2 hour long sunset walks with these.

      I just got myself Brooks Glycerin 19: more comfy than 20 that I tried on the treadmill. They're pretty much half price now at Start Fitness: Got mine for £72 (after using online code I got extra 10% off) - bargain.
      My other shoes: Pegasus 39 and Mach 4. Mainly been using Nike shoes as Hoka Mach 4 stressed my Achilles tendon and I almost ended up with an injury - great shoes actually just need to back off a bit and use it less often.
      Next Target: Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 (probably next year once they're on sale)

    Thanks for the great review! What’s the issue with speed runs? Is it safety, comfort or performance problems?

    • @UnlikelyReply

      The extra cushion and weight just slows you down and saps more spring from your step that's all.

    Bondi 8 would be great if the outsole wouldn’t dig on my foot arches. They got returned.

    Do you get someone to ship the More v4 from the US for you Ben?
    It’s between the Bondi and More for me. I’ve got the More v3 - it’s great

    This has given me blisters on top of blisters. It's a shame as the rest of the experience is alright, much improved on the 6's I had but not close to the More 3's they were replaced by.

    The soles have zero durability. Mine had shown significant wear with 20km on them.

    How would this compare to the Clifton? I use that for my easy recovery runs.

    • @benparkestheextramile
      @benparkestheextramile  Před rokem +3

      This is just a bit softer, bit chunkier.. all about the recovery run. The Clifton will still look after you well for recovery runs too!

  • @kinsells123

    The first and last Hoka shoes that I will purchase (Bondi 8). It is like running in soft sand, and these runners managed to knock 1 minute/km off my average run time. They just suck the life from your legs as you increase time and kms. I would avoid these shoes for anyone that 1) enjoys running and 2) wants to keep enjoying running. Where they might add value is for recovery days, or for people that are training for an event that has them running through knee deep mud or in very soft sand across sand dunes.
    I am a heavy runner (90kg+) that runs 50km+ each week, and have not had an injury in about 5 years. These shoes changed that. My knees and ankles were inflamed and sore for days after running a slow 10km.
    I usually wear Saucony or On Cloud shoes, and have recently switched back...and the muscle soreness disappeared...and my times magically came back up to my normal average!!
    They are OK and comfortable for wearing around the house as a pair of slippers, but as a shoe for running - i would not recommend.

    The most boring shoe I’ve ever used. Feels like it does nothing, I returned them
