Death metal is a great genre, but add in the melodic parts is like adding the soul to the song. Melodic death metal is freaking awesome \m/
Hell yeah that song is a bomber and Alissa is an Angel of deatruction she is insanely talented and so beautiful and she is from my city im really proud of that 🤟🙏🔥
We know u are in love with her lol
Quebec tabarnak
Angel of Destruction is an terrifyingly accurate way to describe her.
Epic song !! And Arch Enemy is Melodic Death Metal… (not Death Metal). The word « melodic » is very important !
That's the part that means it sounds good, haha.
@@bigdog91paper 😄
@@bigdog91paper yikes
@@bigdog91paper someone had to say it :)
@@bigdog91paper yep. Exactly . I don’t particularly like death metal. Melodeath is my favorite subgenre of metal and it’s not particularly close
The depth of bass sound in this track is so absorbing. I love this mixing!
couldn't agree more
It is truely a great song or band..!
I love bands who turn up the bass, so damn underrated to mix it louder
Have you heard of carnifex
The musicianship from Arch Enemy is awe inspiring. Couple that with Alyssa’s vocal skills and the end result never fails to impress
she is just such an amazing vocalist
@@AlexHefner React to her doing Serendipity or Thank You, Pain with her old band, The Agonist! This was like listening to a Jinjer song where Tati only sings clears (still great, but not everything she has)
arch enemy is my favourite band of all music genres.
and yes death metal came from thrash, and thrash came ultimately from punk, this song is melodic death metal, which is a sub genre of death metal that started in the 90s
These last couple of releases from them, at least to my ear, are full of little 80's-style elements in their composition and overall sound. I'm loving them so far.
3:10 I think he somehow unknowingly timed that perfectly
I’ve always seen melodic death metal as a blend of death metal with thrash guitars. That’s why it’s one of my absolute favorite sub genres. If you want to dig a little deeper you need to check out some Carcass. They’re Michael Amott’s band before arch enemy and they pretty much pioneered melodic death metal. I think Heartwork would be a good song to introduce you to them.
So, on the topic of death metal as a subgenre:
The first thrash metal album to be released was Metallica's debut record Kill 'Em All released in 1983, and the subgenre was popular in the mid-late 80s. The first death metal album to be released is a bit more debated than thrash, but generally Death's debut album Scream Bloody Gore was one of the first if not THE first death metal album, released in 1987. Death metal remained more underground and really grew in the early 90s, and did grow out of thrash metal. Thrash metal obviously isn't dead, but a lot of the sounds of thrash either branched off into the groove metal category (think Enter Sandman), or took the other direction and became death metal. Arch enemy typically plays a sub-subgenre known as melodic death metal, or 'melodeath' (Amon Amarth is another great example of melodeath). This is where the vocals are still very harsh death growls and screaming, but the backing guitars are way more melodic (and often catchy) compared to traditional death metal, which is even less melodic than thrash. Depending on the song and the band, melodeath can range from the backing tracks sounding about as melodic as Metallica, going all the way to sounding almost power metal-esque, just with harsh vocals.
Doe in saying all that. You can argue that Venom etc was the start. Again. If you wanna get technical, We can go back to Danzig & Misfits.
@@jthomas6672 That's fair enough. I can't argue with you on any of the points you made. I agree.
Ya but wouldn't say Metallica is actually
This song is amazing, love arch enemy way back from the start in 1996, Michael Amott said one of his biggest influences in metal was Dave Mustaine from Megadeath. There's the 80s metal were getting in this song and it's awesome. Reminds me of when I was a kid listening to metal. The second chorus, bridge and solo are amazing and I love Alissa's clean power metal scream at the beginning, then growl straight after. Have a good one Alex love your Chanel too. Great job🎶🔥🤯🤘to you and arch enemy🎶🔥🤘🤯😭
The production value in these new Arch Enemy songs is incredible. Everything is sounding SOOO good. God dammit.
Thanks Alex! Great job man. Amazing track! Got me teared up it's so beautiful. Super feelie old school solos, intensity, eerie lead in to the massive breakdown. This speaks to me on so many levels. 🤘😈 It's like a musical life story. Well said about her. Delicate and furocious at the same time.
it's awesome right?!?
I agree completely
Such an incredibly talented band! Love the production and sound from this album.
Omg his explanation of how he felt and understood this song was mind blowing. I like this point of view so much
Powerful song, impressive performance, beautiful singer with extraordinary voice. Melodic Death Metal at its best. Two thumbs up!
People don't know how a guitar player is utterly brilliant. And this singer is a goddess
Wow, this time you were super fast with the new AE song, love it!

Epic song, love the band🤟🇳🇴
I would advise everyone to go out on the streets and play this song as loud as possible.
That Gallop you mentioned is so like the band Carcass who Michael Amott used to be a member and his influence is clearly heard in that gallop.
Check Carcass out they are awsome.
Carcass were a Grind Gore band, another Genre of Metal.
Love you Alex your one of the real ones I appreciate the time you put into making this. Gods watch over you have faith in fate and you’ll always prosper alissais a goddess of our time and no body gives her enough credit along with the band
God dammit man! Your the only one so far pausing in the middle of the chorus! All of them!
Lucky for you that you are such a fun guy to watch! Lol
Cheers!
Stay Metal!
🤘😎🤘
Lol. U pause the video in first 2 chorus. I was almost going to throw my phone from the window 😁😁
hahahaha sorry about that! i am the king of terribly timed pausing

I'd like to say. I love the John Candy poster behind you. John Candy rules!!!!
if you are doing death metal bands for a while check out rivers of nihil - where owls know my name or the void from which no sound escapes. im pretty sure you will like them.
The vibe strongly reminds me of the Alissa version of Demons Are A Girl's Best Friend!
Great reaction, Alex! Arch Enemy are my favorite band! Alissa is great, but for me it’s Daniel Erlandsson that is the real badass in this band!
@@zykoafonso Will To Power is the latest album. In my humble opinion War Eternal is way better.
Hey. Until December 13 the entire Architects live at the abbey road is currently streaming and its honestly worth the entire listen holy shit!!!

New arch enemy single after just a month! Jesus I think i am gonna die tomorrow
Loved this song!
same here! it was fantastic!
I love your t-shirt, I need one right now 🤣
its the guitar riff, drums and her voice that make the song bad ass, i have not heard a riff like that in a wicked long time.
I love this woman 😍😍😍🤘🤘
Long overdue for an avatar reaction.
Great video keep up the good work
Really Good,great voice
this song is so badass!!!!
Dude, I F$&?!ng love this guy. Absolutely want to grab some beers with you. Let’s make it happen!!
Please finally react to the pretty reckless 😭
Arch Enemy is such a good time. Definitely a different music style but you should definitely check out mutual fear by eidola ft jon mess of dance gavin dance or empty gardens by eidola.
The World is yours - Arch Enemy. Great song, do a reaction my guy.
The birth of Death Metal. Many give that distinction to Chuck Schuldiner and his band, Death. Others might say Venom was the first the bring "extreme" metal to the forefront. Venom was formed back in the late '70s if I am not mistaken. I definitely remember seeing their band shirts in my 6th grade class. Back in 1983. But yes, bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer did Inspire many death metal bands to come. But did Venom help push bands like Metallica in the direction of thrash? We know that Lars, James and the boys have often mentioned, they were inspired by Motorhead, Mercyful Fate, The Misfits, Diamond Head and even Iron Maiden. As well as others. But I vaguely recall that in some interviews...Venom was mentioned. Anyway, everything that we listen to today was inspired by a band or artist from the past. As long as its good(which of course is subjective), it will make my playlists! GREAT reaction. Love the channel. Keep up the good work! \m/
Do an old Agonist song to hear her cleans, Thank You Pain is good!
Hey Alex you should check out Soilwork and their song Stalfagel ft. Alyssa. Melodic Death metal in an incredible genre and growing at an tremendous rate. It combines the best elements of thrash, power metal, black metal, death metal symphonic metal.
Hey hey hey!! You said more death metal on the channel, you have to listen to Nothgard now😏
Yes and yes

Alex with another great reaction with another kickass band🤘🤘🤘.
Alex: Man you ever get that twitch in your neck. (Proceeds to crack his neck).
Me: That ain't shit. Broke my neck twice. Got Osteoarthritis aka Degenerative Disk Disease and Bone Spurs on every side of my vertebrae starting at the base of my skull to where my shoulders meet my spine.
The neck cracking, made me cringe sadly. Lol Love ya Alex. 🤘🤘🤘
Time to check out the new Karnivool man! Dropped a couple of days ago, it's awesome! Like everything else they've ever done ;)
getting major Iron Maiden vibes from the "galloping" , Steve Harris in a nutshell
ALEX: When you Listen to It Enough, You can Almost Hear Allisa "TRYING TO KEEP HER REAL VOICE IN"
Alex, s the version released in your country pitched down? Because I remember it like half a tone higher
Glad to hear you're ready for more Melodic Death, so you should finally try HYPOCRISY!!! 'Eraser' for example! (or 'End Of Disclosure', or a classic:'Roswell 47', or new stuff, 'Chemical Whore' or 'Children Of The Gray'!)
And when you dicovered this band, try out mastermind Tätgrens other band PAIN, 'Shut Your Mouth'! :)
Yes she's beautiful and has a lovely voice!
Melodic death metal
1: to update your understanding, you'll have to either research genres, or watch Metal: A Headbangers Journey by Sam Dunn (a good Documentary watch)
2: you'll have to check out either: Nervosa or Crypta :)
Awesome! You should react to more melodic death metal. Some say that the sound origins from Gothenburg and the Gothenburg sound. Bands like In Flames, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity. Early 90s. You HAVE to react to Dark Tranquillity, I would suggest the song “Lost to Apathy”. Great lyrical song as well.
Well Death was obviously the forerunner of the genre
@@justahologram2230 You are absolutely right.
Lots of folks will have different takes on where death metal came from, but you’re spot-on noticing some similarities to thrash here. I wouldn’t think of it as really linear, like “this came from that.” It’s more like scenes formed in a few places with similar influences and the bands in those scenes traded members and kinda built off one another. But with that said… the common root in DM is probably New Wave of British Heavy Metal (like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest and even Venom). In the 70s punk was happening, NWoBHM was happening, plus stuff like Black Sabbath, the more blues-based evolution of rock and roll getting heavier. And some folks got inspired by different elements they were hearing, and things got heavier in different ways. We got the thrash scene in California, which took some punk stuff and some NWoBHM stuff and some Motörhead and started building that, that was Metallica, Anthrax, Testament, Exodus, Slayer. And we got an early, early death metal scene in Florida with Death, Obituary, Deicide, and Morbid Angel, which also had a lot of NWoBHM influence but wasn’t quite like Bay Area thrash. And in Europe black metal was starting-in Switzerland and Denmark actually-with Hellhammer and Celtic Frost and Merciful Fate, which focused on occult themes, and in Britain groups like Carcass and Napalm Death were working on stuff too, which is sometimes called goregrind, and they were influenced by British punk as well. Michael Amott, the creator of Arch Enemy, was actually in Carcass, and over time he was also influenced by thrash from the US and lots of other things. But you can hear the Iron Maiden in the gallops, the melodic solos, etc. so it all overlaps and weaves together, but if you look at what all these bands say their influence was, it all kinda starts with Iron Maiden and a handful of others of that ilk. Also worth noting: AE is a true supergroup in that Michael Amott was from the Carcass roots of DM. Jeff Loomis is a thrash legend from the west coast of North America, he came from Nevermore. The bassist Sharlee started with Merciful Fate, so he came from the pioneers and precursors to black metal in some ways. So a lot of pioneers from different scenes joining forces here.
Carcass - Heartwork. A band Michael Amott was in before starting Arch Enemy, and that song is just fucking incredible. Might get blocked but you should hear it anyway 🤘
Dark reflections
Degeneration
You need to check out some Carcosa! It's Andrew Baena and Johnny Ciardullo's band and they are amazing. I definitely recommend their song Vermin
Alex is time for orden ogan gunmen
The halo effect (old in flames) just one song out. Neeeeeed to check it out! Melodic death.❤❤🤘
You need to check out her old band, the agonist . Many great songs .there is a documentary on the entire metal scene. I think it’s a 8 part series. Want to learn metal , watch that.
If you want to HEAR a delicate side of Alissa, check out The Agonist, any song from Once Only Imagined and Lullabies for the Dormant Mind albums (Serendipity from the former if I had to choose just one song). That's the band she played with before joining Arch Enemy, and she uses great clean vocals alongside her solid harsh ones that are on display here. Not to shit on Arch Enemy, but man... they don't use Alissa's full repertoire very often it seems, for whatever reason. Still enjoyed this song, of course!
Once human is what you should listen to next. Gravity.

I think some Technical Death Metal should be explored. Job for A Cowboy - Sun of Nihility. Vampire Squid - Mr. Squidworm
Hey Alex, got something which will be right up your alley. It's a cover of the Manowar song "Warriors of the World" by Feuerschwanz featuring Angus McFife of Gloryhammer, Melissa Bonny and Saltatio Mortis. And it fucking slaps!
You should check bands like Epica or Cradle of Filth maybe you could find amazing songs from those bands in my humble opinion they are fantastic and of course arch enemy is fantastic too
A lot of death metal inspiration actually came from Metallica and Anthrax.

Death metal is a journey! The following bands were the bridge (for me) from thrash to death!
• Testament - Legions of the Dead: czcams.com/video/BtCV0wv2AMs/video.html
• Sepultura - Arise: czcams.com/video/6BOHpjIZyx0/video.html
Now, the Testament album The Gathering where that song lives had James Murphy on guitar, and he was one of the godfathers of death metal. He was the guitarist for the Obituary and Disincarnate suggestions, below.

• Morbid Angel - Fall From Grace: czcams.com/video/gPz8iGXyB1U/video.html
• Disincarnate - Monarch of the Sleeping Marches: czcams.com/video/nBVZi3D8EG0/video.html
• Deicide - Lunatic of God’s Creation: czcams.com/video/MPvRBiQY6lo/video.html

When i was a teenager in the 1980s there were only 2 types of metal music thrash metal which was Metallica, Megadeth, Overkill, Anthrax.. Etc, and what i called Pop metal, Poison, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, winger, white Lion.. Etc also known today as hair metal but i will never call it that. after that a lot of different labels of metal appeared. there are so many different ones now that i cant name them all or even a few. and some i think are unnecessary.
If you want to check out more Death Metal take a listen to Nile. Its Death Metal in a way you have not listened to yet. One of the Death Metal legends.
