In 1981 I met a young man who had been a member of the Moonies in Florida. (I lived in Texas.) He told me about his escape. He was actually afraid to be caught leaving but I do not remember why. Anyhow, he told me that one day he just walked out of the house and went and turned the corner and broke into a run and just ran as fast and as far as he could, with basically nothing but the clothes on his back. I also saw a letter that was sent out to people who had been paired with people they had never met to marry. I wish I had kept notes on that letter. It was really strange.

Fast: They do the three day, then the seven day, then a 21 day and finally a 40 day fast. No solid food, just water. It is based on old testament and new testament texts. However: It is not required, and the vast majority of members don't do all of it, maybe just the three day, some none at all.
Fundraising: Many members would lie about for whom they sold the flowers, because they were afraid of prosecution. Some members had experiences of being physically assaulted when people realized they were Moonies. Also, they thought that many people would not buy the flowers if they were told "We are members of UC."

The AFRICAN IDEOLOGY OF THE UNIFICATION CHURCH IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, very pathetic. It is ABSOLUTE OBEDIENCE PERIOD!!! You dnt ask questions, you follow your church leaders direction. You made to believe the Koreans are the chosen ones then the Japanese are in like the eve position then the Americans and Europeans and lastly ( as expected) the Africans , black people are like back benchers in the kingdom of heaven 😂😂I dnt know but that was total bullshit I never got it .even as little as 10 I always argued with my mum about that mentality and you are made to belive you are kinda special on top of that . I got true awakening when I actually came to Korea ( the chosen nation apparently 😂🤷‍♀️) not only did I discover how racist these guys are towards the AFRICAN MEMBERS ESPECIALLY (I’m still blown away by the level of faith they got)but I also found out about so many disgusting things that I cnt even begin to list them out here ( I’m not so good at expressing myself by texting) so il just leave things as such . The last straw was when they sent text messages to every member to pray for TRUMPS VICTORY During the US elections. I was like that’s it I’m OUT 😂😂😂😂

So many questions! So her parents were not affectionate with each other, they were brought together through their devotion to Moon. But they left the church when Hana was 14? Was it just her that left mentally, or did they all leave? Are the parents still in the church? Or any of her siblings? Has the parents’ marriage survived until now? How has being raised like that influenced her own relationships? It’s hard to understand how a marriage relationship can survive being built solely on this religion.

Latin is spoken because it is the church of Rome and that is the common tongue of Rome. Greek orthodox speak Greek and coptic Christians speak Arabic for the same reason, it's their liturgical language.
The hail Mary is predicated on honoring Mary as a Saint and the mother of God, asking for her prayers and intercession for mercy from Jesus because catholics do not believe that the dead are spiritually separate from them in the body of christ, so their view is that if you ask others here on earth to pray for you, you can ask people in heaven to pray for you as well.

@@RussianBot4Christ It ain't simple as that. SDA originally wasn't even fully trinitarian, and their doctrine of the investigative judgement destroys the atonement vastly more than even than the canons of the council of Trent do.
Also, the RCC is, in general terms, a historic church (it was the only instituted church in the West), which degenerated over a long time. SDA is a recent novelty.

There are also fully evangelical congregations in the SDA, who are just Conditionalist, sabitarian evangelicals for the most part and have rejected Ellen White.
So the SDA hardly has a cult like structure anymore, atleast in the US. If The SDA is a cult because of Ellen White, then the RCC is a cult because of Gnostic Mary and the Pope. And I can assure you that the amount of people in the SDA worshiping Ellen white is miniscule to almost non-existent in comparison to the amount of Roman Catholics openly worshipping Mary and Relying solely on the Pope.
As for what is "recent", the Marian Dogmas are also recent. The RCC seems to make their church worse, regardless of history. They aren't much of a historic church.

''If the SDA is a cult because of Ellen White, the the RCC is a cult because of Gnostic Mary and the Pope.''
Doesn't follow, because you are equivocating two groups which have a very different worldview, history and way of articulating doctrine. The RCC in the 13th century is quite different than the RCC since the 19th century (even just dogmatically speaking). I haven't even claimed that the SDA is a cult because of any consideration concerning Ellen White, as grievous as her teachings might have been. I stated that the historic SDA doctrine of the Sabbath and especially the investigative judgement is heretical, because it directly denies the perfection and infallibility of Christ's work.
There is one doctrine in RC that is probably of gnostic origin, given the evidence, and that is the doctrine of the immaculate conception, yet it has only been developed by John Duns Scotus around the 1300's and not dogmatically defined before 1854.
If you look before that in history you had in the RCC true doctrine (considering essentials) for a long time. Anselm of Canterbury taught Penal substitution and had a conception of the doctrine of Imputed Righteousness. Bonaventure and Thomas Aquinas had one of the most highly developed formulations of the Trinity and Christology. I know from my reading of Aquinas's Summa Theologiae and his commentaries on Paul that he taught grace alone. Those are just the better known and there many others. RC degenerated in later centuries (purgatory, indulgences and other idolatries).
SDA from the very start denied the Trinity, yet affirmed it later on. There is no official denunciation of the SDA church of the doctrine of the investigative judgment (Desmond Ford is a well known example of the SDA's refusal to do so).

Okay. I never compared the old SDA to old Romanism. I'm not sure why you keep talking about old Romanism and old SDA. Your whole post is pointless. The modern RCC is just as much as a cult as the modern SDA, and since you haven't talked about modern Romanism, and decided to talked about older Romanism, your whole post is rather meaningless.
This whole podcast is on Cults. If the modern SDA is loosely a cult, with completely evangelical congregations within it, and it doesn't belong on cultish. If loose cults are welcome on cultish, then so is the modern RCC. The modern RCC is proudly centralized and proudly displays its cultish hegemony in lists of downright moronic dogmas and beats other Christians over the head with them with unyielding and uncompromising vigor, while letting its members in far away lands worship Mary seemingly unhindered. The SDA at least has a hold on its greatest stupidities and continues to backtrack from many of them, not reinforcing them and making them worse like the RCC does.
Investigative judgment is just as pointless as purgatory or any other RCC dogma, and yes they are both damaging, while purgatory is fathomed far more often than investigative judgment is by their perspective laity.

Zero dots being connected here that just because your life isn't controlled in the same way, you're still believing something that doesn't stand up to scrutiny in the same way as religious cults. One of the scariest things to me in that they target children. In my town in Alabama there is a small church that appears to be a normal church. They have this awesome open play space that tons of people rent out for birthday parties and take their kids to play every week. Most parents have no idea that this church is part of the unification church disguising themselves as any other church in the Bible Belt. So many people are giving their money unknowingly to this cult.

This is very true!! I also live in a small town in AL but I was raised in GA until I was about 4. My whole family attended a southern Baptist church and I just remember as a small child being terrified of sinning because they constantly preached “Hell fire and brimstone”. Many of the kids would get “saved” and baptized (including myself) before they even understood what that meant all because of fear. I still appreciate some aspects of that type of preaching because sometimes we need to be reminded of what sin can lead to.. but Gods love is even more important to know and appreciate. There seems to be more judgmental and hypocritical types of people coming from these small towns that are more interested in their image of being “Holier than thou” rather than humbling themselves while striving to be a better person and focusing on their relationship with our creator

Imagine ISIS doing this and getting away with it, taking funding from people who don't know what kind of people they are financially supporting. Unfortunately it seems the FBI and other agencies still aren't taking this threat seriously enough, even though their new leader has openly stated more than once that they are planning for open warfare against all kinds of people.
It's always shocking to me when I compare how different groups are treated with regard to extremism. An Islamic extremist saying something violent online will be arrested and charged within 12 hours, but far-right extremist cults can buy hundreds of assault rifles, open a training camp and start building defenses, hold sermons where they threaten to murder entire groups of people in the name of their cult beliefs and the FBI etc are nowhere to be found.

If the watchman alerts the city of the coming danger and they do nothing, the watchman is blameless. If the watchman does not alert the city though? The watchman is at fault. Appreciate the video, insightful as always. Moon is clearly weird, but that young man also misstated what the Word says about "original sin”:
“Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned-” (Romans 5:12, ESV)
That literally says “all sinned,” not that all inherited Adam’s sin. It simply says all sinned-ultimately, as a personal response to temptation:
“But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brigs forth death.” (James 1:14-15, ESV)
Which is LITERALLY consistent with what happened during the fall in Genesis:
“Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”” (Genesis 3:13, ESV)
The Bible doesn’t say we inherited Adam’s sin any more than it says we inherited his eye color.
Not trying to be that guy, but correcting cult error with doctrinal error is…?
Even still, great video series. So on balance, thanks for the work you all put into these.

@58 you mention "per-programmed statements". I used to be a formal devotee of cult leader Adi Da Samraj. (Ironically, it took longer to mentally & spiritually break than time I was actually a member .... as I'd dismiss the bad stuff, and think I could do it right this time.) I used to get - and still do - so frustrated with the pre-progammed talk of members. It was like they just memorized the books and regurgitated them. Drove me bonkers, as there was no such - or it felt like this - as a second opinion, a different opinion or independent thinking. You'd ask for someone's personal experience and get the words of Adi Da. I could get the books and videos if I wanted those ideas, but if I'm asking YOU for YOUR ideas than I don't want a quote. Further, folks would try to write like him, and would take pictures looking like him. For a teacher that preached that everyone has a unique experience, his followers were pretty hardcore imitators. Today I'm still like this to anyone. Religion, politics, whatever - put it in your own words!!!!!!! (Besides being the sign of a cult, if you put something into your own words you have digested it. I find folks who regurgitate things often don't understand or think about what they are saying.)

Why would Christ want us feeling guilt and shame day and night for our sins?
Who the son sets free is free indeed.
    Repent( a change of mind)
Remission ( a debt paid in full)
Act 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
This isn’t to say we get a free pass to sin willfully. It is to say that the lord sees us as sinners and knows all of our sins past, present and future! The born again believer should be growing in the Word, Obedience and truth daily if they’re truly walking with Christ!
