- New Tradition is a bluegrass outfit that is firmly rooted in the gospel. The group came together in the early '80s with the intention of remaining a regional phenomenon. However, New Tradition soon found itself playing 200-plus shows a year and moving numerous copies of their albums. Over the years, the group has included: Danny Roberts, a songwriter, mandolin player, and bass vocalist; Richie Dotson on banjo and vocals; Sand Springs, OK, native Jamie Clifton on guitar and tenor singing; Daryl Mosely, a bassist and lead singer (who also pastored at a Southern Baptist Congregation near Nashville for a time and wrote for Ronnie Milsap's publishing company); and late-period member Aaron McDaris, a banjo player who had previously played with the band Second Exit. I saw these guys in the late 90's at a small bluegrass festival. They were fantastic. They are one of my all time favorites. For me they rank right up there with IIIrd Tyme Out. I sure wish they were still playing together.
Got to know these guys after meeting them at the chili festival in Tulsa Oklahoma. They became good friends for a bit hung out and jammed with them often. Richie Dotson was a very nice man. He was my favorite
I have never seen then but I agree with you on that they are 1 of my all-time favorites
I've never seen them but have seen Ricky Scaggs in concert & very reminiscent :)

I just met Richie about a year ago. As far as I know he is not pickin much these days. I can get a message to him for you. I should see him within the next couple of weeks.
