One of the cool things about the Beach Boys is that they freely shared lead vocal duties in their live shows. So you get to here their songs with a lot of different interpretation depending if Carl, Dennis, Al or Brian sung it.
Yeah this was a few yrs before he died and he was in bad shape in that period frequently bein kicked out of the band..one funny thing he did while drunk was attack Mike Love live on stage lol...but Forever of the Sunflower album and his entire solo album "Pacific Ocean Blue" is amazing.
FWIW, the single was performed entirely by Carl Wilson & Bruce Johnston. Carl on lead & backing vocals and Bruce on backing vocals. Johnston produced it. Very underrated song.

Love Denny, forever and ever. CARL does him proud, every time he sings it, tho. ALWAYS , ALWAYS dedicates it to Dennis and credits Denny for composing.
When I first heard Dennis sing lead, I didn't hear the same smooth vocals that Brian and Carl produced, consequently I didn't love his voice. Since then, I've listen to his album Wilson and grown to appreciate his voice and style. It's not Brian, but it shouldn't have to be, in order to be good.
A video of him singing this would be so awesome. I still prefer Carl’s smooth voice, but I have love and respect for both of the boys’ versions. Dennis sounds pretty cool on this one. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I saw the boys on this 1979 tour at Radio City Music Hall in NYC. As you heard at the end, Denny said “Carl was supposed to sing this song from our new album but he’s chicken!” Somehow I doubt that was the truth - but the rest is history. It was a great show!!!
Dennis and Carl were very close as adults, and Dennis enjoyed teasing him (although he was much more vicious to Carl when they were kids. He mentioned he like to hang out with Carl because he could beat him up and he was merciless about Carl's weight when they were kids. He called him "Porky").
I think Carl didn't sing lead cuz he was doing the falsetto for this song. Idk if the other guys could handle those notes so they needed someone other than Carl to take the lead
it's funny that you liked the show and its good to hear because locally the New York newspaper reviews trashed these Radio City music hall shows badly.
Dennis was so under rated and no way ML could come close . A perfect example of talent, DCW" IN the back of my mind". He had skills and should have replaced MEL. A documentary on DCW also commented he was teasing Carl about being a chicken,
@@jonchapple My point was that Mike Love can't sing at alll.! This version posted is 'Dennis Wilson .'I never stated Mike Love sang this tune, DOUCHEBAG

Now you know why Dennis got the least amount of lead vocals on songs by the Beach Boys. What the hell was he croaking?! He could barely get his voice out!
SoBe It just because you don't like his voice doesn't mean he can't sing. Your opinion. Mine is that his voice is gorgeous. I like the gruff, dump truck style he had.

alhillx Hear. Sang. Got it.
Great!
@@mrsmacca126 Does that make you feel good about yourself? 🙄
That's a cool band right there. It's not often where you have more than at most two members doing lead vocals.
Or Mike or Bruce :)
Never heard this with Dennis on lead vocals. He had a fantastic lead voice
I love Dennis. He does not sound well here.

@@michaelthorner, I thought he sounded surprisingly good for when this was recorded.
I really like "A time to live in dreams" because of his vocals.
Chiel Wouters 🙏 very cool.

this is live from a show - I want to say Philadelphia. I have the full show burned on a disc somewhere
The track and lead vocals were recorded in '74, doubtful Bruce produced that

Dennis was so f’n cool
I like this version. I wish they would have released it with Dennis singing it.
Well, Dennis already had 3 lead vocals on the album.
Dennis and Carl had voices like angels
I love this version. Dennis was very underrated. R.I.P Dennis Wilson
Love Denny, forever and ever. CARL does him proud, every time he sings it, tho. ALWAYS , ALWAYS dedicates it to Dennis and credits Denny for composing.
??? ("Carl and Brian wrote that song" says Dennis at the end)

Which album are you referring to?
Do you mean Pacific ocean blues?
Loved his voice the first time i heard Friends in 1977 and realized he sang Little Bird.
My favorite Dennis vocals: This Car of Mine; Do You Wanna Dance; Mona; Angel Come Home. Wide range of voice performances,
His solo album really made me fully appreciate his vocals. Dude was insanely talented

Love this version!
I remember hearing them sing this at Radio City Music Hall. It was magical.
Tremendous song! Dennis does it justice! Thoroughly enjoy listening! 😊❤

way to go Denny ! An amazing talent lost !
Dennis was the shit!! I love him!!!
“hi mom 🥺”
🥺😥
Sweet sorrow. Thank you.
All of the Wilson boys could sing. xx
Love it .

Love Dennis But I Absolutely Love Love Love Carl Singing This
Denny Rocks…Forever!!!
Fuckin smooth
Very good
Have seen this one, also where hes on stage.
My Miss America...
What is this from? It sounds like a double-tracked vocal.
When in 1979 was this performed?
I believe early March at the Radio City Music Hall.
Luv ya Denny. You were a pure soul, but you call that a vocal? Have another drink brah.
Now you know why Dennis got the least amount of lead vocals on songs by the Beach Boys. What the hell was he croaking?! He could barely get his voice out!
Denny was always a good singer when he was fit and well.
However he ruins it.
They've taken it down a key also.
non aveva più voce
Not a fan of Dennis's vocals. Just not much of a singer.
Dennis cannot sing. Period. He never learned.
SoBe It just because you don't like his voice doesn't mean he can't sing. Your opinion. Mine is that his voice is gorgeous. I like the gruff, dump truck style he had.
He was born singing, He has outstanding talent. 'IN THE BACK OF MY MIND' is pure talent.
lol...sure
Listen to “In the back of my mind”
Listen to Slip on thru Dennis can surely sing.
