  • As a badminton player, you know how difficult singles can be. You must cover the entire field by yourself. It requires players in many different skills in terms of physical strength, ingenuity, agility... Therefore, not everyone who competes professionally can maintain success and stability in a game. long time especially men's singles. And the following top 10 people prove it.

      Band 1 : Lin Dan
      7 World titles
      (5 World Championships . 2 World Cups)
note : World Cup was held only twice during LD's career and he won both
      2 Olympic Golds
      6 Asian titles
      (4 Asian Games . 2 Asian Championships)
      6 All Englands
      1 Year End Finals
(played this only once, and won it)
Lastly, LD maintains a mind boggling 82-100% win rate in each of the major events he enters.
No one else has remotely close to LD's resume, there should be no doubt he is the greatest badminton player of all time.

    • @88feji
      @88feji Před 15 dny

I rank the players by bands as it is impossible to say who is greater within the same band as they are great in different ways.
      Band 2 : LCW
      4 Year End titles
349 weeks as World no.1, longest in history
Even though LCW did not win any world titles or much other majors, he still belongs to band 2 because he was stopped from winning world titles mostly by 1 man, the GOAT LD. It can be argued that he would probably have won many other majors had he not played in the same era as LD as he has shown how dominant he is when not facing LD during his prime.
      Band 2 : Yang Yang
4 World titles (2 World Champs, 2 World Cups)
      Band 2 : Axelsen
2 World titles (2 World Champs)
      2 Olympic Golds
Band 2 : Tang Xian Hu
Although not allowed to participle in any tournaments due to China's politics, nevertheless Tang travelled internationally to play against all the top players by invitations (except Rudy Hartono who he never had a chance to play against during his 6 trips to Indonesia).... and he went undefeated for 12 long years during all these contests. By the time he his tasted defeat at the end of that run, he was already semi-retired and old by professional age.
      Band 2 : Rudy Hartono
      8 All Englands
      1 World Champ
All Englands was considered like a world title during Rudy's era, so his dominance can be interpreted as a world dominance.
But its hard to put him in Lin Dan's band 1 for 2 reasons :
      A) Rudy never had to play any China players for his 8 All Englands as China had yet to enter international competitions even though China already had the capability to compete at the highest level, as shown by their dominance during invitational international matches. Therefore, Rudy was never tested against the other superpower of badminton of that time.
      B) For unknown reasons, Rudy never turned up to play Tang Xian Hu when the china legend travelled 6 times to Indonesia by invitation. Whether out of humility or honest admission, he even conceded during an interview that he would have lost if they had played.
      Band 2 : Han Jian
4 World titles -- (2 World Champ 2 World Cups)
      1 Asian Games
      1 Year End Final

Well, I am a big fan of Lee Chong Wei and I do want to say that he is better than Chen Long, however, he lost to Chen Long in every "big" match such as the Olympics and the World Championship.
I put Axelsen in front of Taufik because I feel like Axelsen's play style is more aggressive, however, Taufik has better skills.
And to be honest, Kidambi Srikanth is good but not good enough to be to 10, maybe top 25. Also, Son Wan Ho is very good but 100% not top 10.

The top 5 of your list is so under-achieving (except Xia Xuan Ze has won a few majors) its silly you put them so high ...

  • @KeithHiew
    @KeithHiew Před 3 měsíci

How are you ranking them? By number of titles won, or by number of major titles?
I’ll put guys like Yang Yang in the mix.
Top is definitely Lin Dan, no question.
Second place is a toss up between Chen Long and Viktor, by virtue of the two world titles and an Olympic gold each. Viktor has a very inferior record against Kento, and I’m not his biggest fan, but when Kento wasn’t around he was consistent enough to sweep everything. He will make no. 2 his own if he can win another Olympic gold in two months time. Yang Yang should also be considered, two world titles and would most likely have won the Olympics if it was an official sport in 1988. He did win it as an unofficial event.
After that comes Taufik. Another one who has won it all except the AE, and two Asiad golds like Lin Dan.
Then come LCW and Kento. LCW has won the most titles but I think he’d dearly want one of Kento’s world championships. Kento holds the Guinness World Record for most titles in a year, and would most likely have gone on to become second or third greatest had not fate put a stop to his momentum.
I also think guys like Hariyanto Arbi, Poul Erik, Sun Jun, Zhao Jianhua and Xia Xuanze deserve a mention.
    IMHO there’s my 12.

Furthermore, the win rate is only 1% difference between. It’s marginal. In terms of career titles, it’s not that far apart. LCW has 69 career titles while LD has 66 titles. Rudy Hartono won without having to face any China players as China has not yet entered the competition .... thats a big asterisk to his achievements.
In contrast, Lin Dan's dominance took place when Badminton is truely an international game ....

@@88feji , Every era has its own difficulties. Pele is still the best of all time even though the competition is not as fierce as it is now
      Champions are still champions.

@@urangsunda3244pele is no longer the best of all time. That title now belongs to Messi. Messi played against far better competition. Furthermore, pele’s Brazil team was miles ahead of everyone else where as Messi’s Argentina team had to battle against superior teams.
