  • There are sooo many great custom bicycle framebuilders, but we all have our favorites. In this video I share what I love about 5 of my all-time favorite bicycle framebuilders.
    The framebuilders I cover are Chris Bishop (Bishop Bikes) from Baltimore, MD; Drew Guldalian (Engin Cycles) in Philadelphia, PA; Carl Strong (Strong Frames) in Bozeman, MT; Kris Henry (44 Bikes) in Lyndeborough, NH; and Steve Potts (Steve Potts Bicycles) in Etna, CA. They all make such beautiful, refined custom bicycles, and they generously contribute to the framebuilding community by sharing their process, as well.

    Personally because I'm currently learning, you know trying to get started in framebuilding, the framebuilders I love most are ones who are the most open and share a lot.
    Paul Brodie's CZcams channel has been a huge inspiration for me, and now you as well.

    Agree with all your picks. All five of those guys are a cut above. I'd throw J.P Weigle in that mix too. He has a great eye for refined detail. His bikes are beautiful.

    I got a Strong frame built in 2002 from eBay. It's a beautiful lightweight frame built out of Reynolds 853. The 1500g frame built into a 17 lb bike (using Sram Rival) that's plenty stiff. Some beautiful TIG welds on that frame!

    How about Jim Redcay ? He had a shop in Lambertville NJ, right across the Delaware from New Hope, Pa. In the late `70s, Jim built some of the most beautiful bikes imaginable. He was the first guy I knew of who shot DuPont Imron paint....OMG, his bikes looked like they were dipped in candy coating, absolutely flawless ! I still have a road bike that he built for me way back when, it has the early-gen Dura Ace gruppo on it....

      @@timtaylor9590 well, he’s in his 60’s. He doesn’t come from the age of influencers and internet. He comes from a simpler time. Ever hear of Gary fisher? Is it cringey that his brand was his full name?

    • @timtaylor9590
      @timtaylor9590 Před rokem

      @@Sapoguapo yes its still cringey. rip to steve potts when gary fisher jumps off a bridge, heh. also its ok to be what ever you are, ppl will always judge but dont let that stand in the way of success. theres no reason for potts to feel offended about who he is therefore theres no reason to defend his life choices, im sure he's doing just fine. and if it takes being 10 x's more egotistical to be 10 x's more successful then i say go for it. but at least try to be modest about it in the eyes of the public. im talking about having a successful bike brand and less about personality traits. consumers dont want someones full name on their bike, like "evropian son" theres no ring to it. you get my point. ps- gary fisher has a nicer ring to it but thats also subjective here. so im sure you have better things to do than analyze my comment that makes perfect sense and comes with the majoritie's approval.
