I ranked all Binding of Isaac Characters by the things they unlock after doing certain endings. Rankings are based off of my personal opinion so please yell at me if I'm making a fool of myself.

The best part about sticky nickels is that Edmund confirmed on Twitter that they were bugged *8 years ago,* and still no one has fixed it.
Yeah! They were supposed to replace pennies so they’d be an actual unlock, but since they replace nickels they’re a pure downgrade.
Probably became a feature over time lol
I'd honestly rather have the penny. Bombs are 5 cents under normal circumstances so you're basically spending 5 cents to get 5 cents. Bombs are also more versatile than money anyway.

i don't know how but i'm sure i had them unlocked without unlocking the forgotten...

@@Arsenicum maybe afterbirth had a different unlock requirement, I stopped during rebirth and came back around a month or two ago
Glyph of Balance is really strong in Repentance. It was buffed to change room drops as well as champion drops, so it's way more impactful. It's one of the few guarenteed Soul Heart generators now, since it will always top you off when you're low.
Fr I had a run where was cooking up something and ignored soul hearts, and Every. Single. Room. It gave me a soul heart 💀
The sacrifice room was plentiful
also generally hard for me to say an item with a down payment of 2 soul hearts on pickup is anything other than quite good, considering most angel rooms can just have something like that, getting that plus an additional effect is huge imo

I find it funny how Azazel’s unlocks being 4-2-2-2-4 perfectly mirrors how people feel about him, and how he is. He’s pretty divided upon, but being my impatient self, I love him!

@@Jessepigman69 guessing it's probably because azazel is all in on the early game with short range high dmg, he can fall off really hard on the later floors without the right items, and if you're a decent player you can probably manage the early floors pretty easily without brimstone and flight given to you
@ToadStool125 see I understand that. He's not my favourite character by any means but "hate" is a very strong word. Not sure what there is to hate. He's probably the easiest character to get deadgod

it's STILL completely gobsmacking how like, half of the Keeper's unlocks solely exist to make playing as him actually bearable,

No, eye of Greed, deep pockets and rib of greed - very interesting unlocks.
Eye of Greed can be very annoying, but its a money generator anyway. You dont need money for use it.
Deep pockets is item, which gives you profit in money from "empty" rooms.
Rib of greed can be very useful in mid-game, when you have a lot of money and you need shops.
I like him.
Honestly Judas having the Left Hand as an unlock shouldn't count. Yes, it's *technically* his unlock, but 99% of people will unlock it from killing Ultra Pride instead of Judas.
Ive come back to this video so many times to decide what to unlock next. So much easier in comparison to digging through the wiki to find each character's unlocks. ty man for making this video, saved me loads of time :D
I think the locusts are actually really good, specifically war, pestilence, and conquest. The war explosion was changed to be smaller but is still big enough to mess up a couple enemies without you also getting caught in the crossfire
Yea i def agree to an extent, I think in my mind trinket unlocks are not worth it most of the time compared to other better items you could get, but yea I don't think I should've thrown them as low as I did since they obviously can help a bit on any kind of run!
In defense of Esau Jr: It is the only permanent passive Flight item in the entirety of the Treasure Room pool.
That is to say, you activate it once to turn into Esau Jr. and gain his Flight and Damage Up, and then you *put it back where you found it and never touch it again.* You get to stay as Esau Jr. even if you put the item down and never pick it back up, and honestly it's the best possible outcome for using the damn thing.
One issue, every time I find Esau Jr. I'm already having a good run and Esau Jr's items are worse. I really wanna use it, but it's never been useful for me the few times I found it.
PASSIVE, "ONLY", is he even on the treasure pool?
Esau Jr. can be OP item. I used it a lot of times. You can reroll your build and can get DMG up.
If you dont like Esau'build - you need 1 room to recharge.
Its a very good item.
The M trinket is actually amazing and among the best in the game, you can just keep rolling your active item until you get something good and then you can just drop M afterwards.
I agree it is very fun, but I wouldn't say it's always the best to get tbh, but I see your point! Probably can bump that up tbh
Every time I find 'M, I end up with R Key or Spindown. If you have items that give extra charge like 9 volt and charged baby, you're guaranteed to break the game.
Ima be honest i feel like every time I get it I get Plan C lmao where's my free death cert >:(
That is true, but if you get a terrible item you can just drop it for a harmless spacebar item - Mr. Boom, Converter or whatever - which aren't hard to come by. So I really think M is incredibly strong and rarely ever gets you stuck with a spacebar item

Putting sumptorium in mild tier pained me. I agreed with most but it seems like most defensive items got ignored. Regardless of individual items though, the tier list looks pretty correct
Huh, today I learned sumptorium may be better than I thought lol. There were a few other comments about that item too, maybe I'll need to give it a better chance next time! Sorry for the pain caused lmao
I feel like you Underated Maggy. Eucharist is usually a guaranteed insane run, unless it’s super late. Relic is a fumble proof defensive item that allows sac room abuse, and both the damage and tear aura of purity are insanely powerful DPS buffs that can carry run. I’d argue Bethany has the same amount of mediocre angel items. I feel she’s lukewarm at the very least
Plus Candy Heart can be pretty strong if you're able to generate red hearts often enough
Putting ??? In the penultimate tier just for 2 good unlocks and putting Maggy in one of the worst for effectively the same spread was. A choice
Only thing I manage to disagree with significantly is that Sworn Protector and Hungry Soul are Mild items, while they certainly aren't god tier they're still really good, main part of Sworn is that it counts towards both Seraphim and Conjoined while also being an orbital which can drop health if it blocks enough. Hungry soul is just a good room clear item with the only downside is that it scales off of your damage, which is only an issue with soy/almond milk runs
friend finder is actually crazy powerful if you get a good run for it, you basically become a summoner build
also heartbreak is like dead cat + a damage up, it's an item i always take if i can
I'm sure you're not wrong, but not gonna lie once enough things spawn it is so fucking loud lmao. For my sanity it is a meh tier lol
Oh i'm aware lmao I had like 2 videos dedicated to finding that item lmao. It's on my hated items list now because of it but I do agree it is very good, but I wouldn't call it as good as dead cat just because it doesn't give you guppy transformation tbh
@AnotherMattPlayingIsaac that's completely fair for both. I feel the same way with glitches crown, i know it's objectively a good item but I've got a skill issue when grabbing items and it breakfasts too fast for me to ever want to pick it up

5:55 Hold up I gotta give some credit to the cracked dice. This trinket combined with a few on-hit pickup-spawning items can rig the living shit out of this game in a matter of a few minutes. Imo it deserves AT LEAST the mild rank.

seriously appreciate this video yo, just started playing this game on a new save after like 4 years and stuff like this is fantastic for easily remembering what i should focus on and go after.
if you take suggestions, id love to see a quick guide of sorts that shows how to unlock each unlockable boss in the game, as nobody else has made a video like that for Repentance and constantly looking at the wiki every 5 seconds gets super tedious for people like me. keep up the dope content bro

I think the biggest disagreement i have here is Tainted Eve being so low. This could just be bais towards the character but lil clot is effectively a mini incubus in a trinket. If you find the gold one somehow that IS twisted pair. Sumptorium has great uses for those runs where you just wanna have 40000 projectoles on screen.
To me both of those are god items so i would have put her in mild unlocks at the very least
Edit. Not to mention heartbreak has alot of power on the lost too. And in general boosts the power of already good items like magic skin

You know what's funny? Doing a detailed list like this is gonna spark a lot of discussion :D I really enjoyed listening to your thoughts.
Since most players aim towards rarely, if ever having Red Hearts i think Brittle Bones - giving you the option to take an automatic +3.0 tears up above the tears cap whenever you want is just broken as fuck, people really do overlook that fact.
For Esau Jr - look at it like a reversible reroll + flying. You can turn back and drop the item the very next room if you don't like the reroll.
Oh yea: Empty Vessel is probably in my top20 items as well. You rarely want to have red hearts in strong runs anyways since you've got enough power at that point. So that's a god item for me - flying + a chance for a long shield every 20 seconds + almost a free take since it gives 2 black hearts. That's an automatic take here.
Those are probably the three items I disagree the most with you.

T.lilith should be bumped up a tier because gello is genuinely just a 1 room incubus which is very powerful, saved a couple of my runs
Issue is it’s an active, and any active that isn’t absolutely top tier is automatically mid since you’re never gonna touch it once you have something good.
even if you dont look at the fact its a 2 room recharge it still can practically double DPS, top tier active item to me
Gello is a top 10 greed active item tbh
Gello + 4.5 Volt beats every other active imo. Low charge +100% DPS is absurd.

Honestly Meconium is a heavily underrated trinket, at least early-game. Just think about it - free room wide damage, confusion, and also pretty consistent black heart spawns (which are almost universally useful across all characters). Also, it can replace red poops, which, yknow, can be a deal-breaker if you're in Womb at like one heart left and a very annoying room with red poops, which can lead to actually getting health as well

Blue key is a really good trinket imo. It allows you to open rooms for free, and you get at least two extra rooms per floor to charge your active or to get a random pickup from.
On tainted Eve, you kind of slept on a lot of her unlocks. Sumptorium is really good imo and can easily net you an army of red clots and let you steam roll the early or even late game. They basically just make your build exponentially stronger and most of the time its not too hard to refill your hearts (it also helps you manipulate your health to proc polaroid). The lil clot trinket is also one of the best trinkets in the game with pretty much no downsides. Its basically the found soul trinket, but you don't need to go to the next floor to get it back if it dies, it just comes back in the next room if you're holding the trinket. (Plus even just touching the trinket and dropping it gives you the clot familiar until it dies which can be several floors if not the rest of the run) Strange Key is also extremely helpful for getting other unlocks, so I think its ideal to get it as early as possible so you have the chance to have a much easier time accessing Hush on some of the slower characters, like T. cain, or T. Laz, J + E, or T. Blue Baby.
Issac's heart being called the worst item in the game just hurts me. It's busted on tainted Maggy and no matter what anyone says... A run winner is a run winner. If it were me i'd put it on bad for being Amazing on 1 character. Good video either way!

tbh i think dull razor and razor blade can be absolutely amazing items when taken on the right run

@derpymule7977 I actually like dull razor sometimes, if you have panic button it is basically a poor man's mantle or you can use it to get in/out of curse rooms
One thing to also take into consideration is the bosses you have to fight to get them with j & e they only have to fight super easy stuff to get the good stuff
Very minor correction but at 13:08 the black rune unlock doesn’t affect blank runes because I’ve had the blank rune void items before I even unlocked the black rune
missing poster is a pretty god tier item when you realize its one of the very few ways tainted lost can gain an extra life

Metronome isnt that bad. A random item every two rooms is decent, and it ranges from the poop to damocles or soul of eden!

I believe it only fails to replicate certain actives that do specific things like void, blank card/rune, placebo and abyss
this makes me wanna try for a new save only aiming for good and god unlocks and see how easy runs become
Calling blank card mild is crazy. Probably one of the most versatile actives in the game even giving you 2 uses of some cards is insane.
Yo man don't know if you intend to update the spreadsheet but if you do I want to let you know that you switched places with Bethany's unlocks.
In the spreadsheet it says that her Isaac(boss) unlock is urn of souls but that's actually her satan's unlock.

all this time i had no idea that glitched items randomly showing up in the secret room was an unlock, i thought that was some weird bug from a mod i had installed
A lot of the item unlock tiers themselves have a lot of innaccuracies, but I don't think that skewed the placment of any particular character too much if at all so still a pretty accurate video.
Imo you underrated keeper. Keeper holds wooden nickel is very good, karma can be good sometimes, deep pockets is great, rib of greed can be good if you dont get it too late, eye of greed can be annoying but still pretty solid and keepers box is good because it can give you stuff like birthright and keepers sack.

Lil clot being only mild hurts me, It's basically a trinket incubus. Yes I know it can die but it can also respawn, so it's good tier at least, perhaps even god tier if gulped.

Have to ask how is isaacs heart bad it can turn basic runs into real good runs it completely changed the outcome of a tainted isaac run and increased my dps immensity

hey man i just want ya to know that ive began using your tier list as an unlock encyclopedia in order to unlock the absolute best ( aka the GOD and good unlocks ) in the game so that i can breeze through dead god and have a fun experience with modded characters , the only thing that its misswritten is the bethany unlocks ( the unlocks for satan/lamb and isaac/??? are twisted around ) other than that tho good yjob on the list man :)

I picked up the game again a little for fun and managed to get a golden wooden cross. Sometimes those golden trinkets just feel great to get and other times it’s just useless. I agree that it’s a fun unlock for the potential.

18:24 I wanna vouch for Dark Arts here because with enough good uses it can practically be used as an offensive holy mantle. Sure, it's not gonna win you any games but it saves you from losing a lot of health. But I guess it takes up the active item slot which can be a dealbreaker for a couple of characters. I feel like it should at least be good but I get why it's only at mild
I have a love-hate relationship to hell games. The chance at getting a "free" devil deal item is so enticing that I don't even keep track of how much health I'm spending, leave myself with half a heart while barely having gotten anything, and lose a good run.
Putting Keepers Kin as bad is actually wild, great video though for the most part.

Placing Sumptorium and Lil' Clot as mild when they act just like Incubus??
My only excuse is that Sumptorium isn't always the best depending on the situation and also takes up your active item slot, but its probably hovering between mild and good in my head lol.
Lil' Clot should've probably been bumped up a tier that lil guy is pretty good. Not sure why I didn't give him the credit he deserves lol

Ok first of all, I will praise you for the video idea and I am glad you made extra effort with unlock sheets. Good job. Here is some criticism: I feel like some placements were inconsistent and you were not taking all unlocks as whole for character, usually only judging by "oh, this character has this 1 good item, so I rank him higher than a character with in sum average quality items, despite that 1 item being the only good unlock and the rest is dog water." And overall some weird placing in some parts, like Tainted Eve being below Tainted ??? and overrating/underrating of certain items. One additional nitpick: Eden can counts as both boy and girl so referring to them as "her" is just weird, i'd say this is rare case where "they/them" pronounce are indeed justified. But overall cool video, good luck with third save file.
I think corrupted data is a cool unlock! I mean, you can get glitched items naturally, and they are chaotic and (usually) not horrible in groups of 1-3.
how are you saying lusty blood and bloody gust are okay? lusty blood makes room clears so much easier and bloody gust gives fire rate up, which is super useful vs boss armour
Glyph of balance is insanely good. You can easily manipulate drops with it. I could easily go from 1 heart to full soul hearts in a single floor because of glyph.

very interesting and nice video, however i think in the future to avoid contradicting yourself you could assign numerical values to your ranks and rankings so taht you can calculate where a character should go
