This video is about how to make natural foam soap with essential oils.
I love to make natural foam soap! I use it in my bathrooms and kitchen, and even carry it in my bag. (Soaps in public restrooms can be irritating, so I like to use my own natural soap.) This recipe is antimicrobial, and it smells amazing. It's perfect for massage offices or yoga studios.
You can get foam soap pumps online. I buy from Aromatics International, which offers two sizes: 50 ml (just under 2 oz), and 250 ml (8 oz). I’m using the smaller container in this video.
To make this natural foam soap, you'll need:
About 1.5 oz (45 ml) Castile soap (1:30)
10 drops Lemon (Citrus limon) (2:02)
10 drops Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini var. motia) (2:38)
    2 drops Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) (3:16)
Fill your foam soap bottle about 3/4 of the way with the castile soap. Then add your essential oils. You can use any essential oils you like, but I suggest sticking to about 25 drops per 1 oz (30 ml). I’m only using 22 drops in this blend.
At 4:19 you can see how rich and foamy this soap is!
Now you have a great recipe to work with, but I want to note that the number of drops of essential oil you add to your foam soap is really personal preference. I have added as little as 2 to 3 drops per oz (30 ml). Some people prefer to use water in their soap too, even making blends that are 2/3 water and 1/3 castile soap! If you'd like to use water, the amount you use is all up to you.
Since there's no preservative in this soap, I recommend making it fresh every few weeks.

Hello Andrea, thank you for sharing this recipe! I have a question, how can I balance the ph of castile soap? Can essential oil lower the ph of castile soap? Do you think is it ok for dry hands? Please, could you give me any advice? Thank you! 🙂

    • @aromatherapyoils
      @aromatherapyoils  Před 3 lety +1

Great question! As you know, Castile soap is a gentle all-vegetable based soap. Soap in general has a slightly alkaline pH. Typically to lower a pH of Castile Soap it is very difficult and takes some science to understand. Essential oils in this quantity wouldn't make a difference. However, adding a bit of carrier oil such as Jojoba or Avocado oil can be used if someone finds Castile soap drying for the skin. Skin types and soap preferences are so varied. We find it is very individual and that it is most effective to just try it to see how it feels and how your skin responds.
Hope this helps to provide some clarity 💜

While skin is still damp, use a body oil (I make my own based on benefits I need) and you’ll retain the moisture you need. The only moisture our body absorbs is water. Oil keeps the water in our skin, since oil and water never mix. That’s the best way to add all the moisture and valuable nutrients back into your skin that you just stripped away. The same can go for scalp after shampooing. Can even add the oils into your conditioner for added boost. Oh and it’s best to never towel dry, if you can air dry after a shower, moisturize while you’re still damp and Pat dry any areas that may need the added assistance..you’ll be so pleased with your skin. Coming from someone who uses Castile soap and also gets super dry skin after using it.

We are frequently asked whether or not it is safe to use plastic bottles and containers to hold essential oils. Undiluted essential oils should not be stored in plastic containers, as some properties in many essential oils will break down the plastic, which can destroy the oil and often cause leakage. However, since our plastic bottles and containers are made of the highest grade of plastic, essential oils can be stored in our plastic bottles and containers for several months if the oils are diluted with a carrier oil.

I wasn't sure how to multiply the drops so I just did a "guestimate" and did 15 drops lemon, 3 drops Geranium, and 3 drops Peppermint. I loved the foam that came out, it really cleaned my hands but I'm not sure about the scent. When I smell my hands I smell more of the Geranium, but when I open the bottle I smell more lemon. Should I add more drops or stick with what I have? Not sure but I will use the rest then try your next soap recipe with the Aloe vera, Lime and Orange since I love citrus EOs (maybe even add grapefruit too)!

This ensures quality and demonstrates accountability. Great question, grammawamma! You do need to be caution with some citrus oils. In this recipe the number of drops used with the lemon is below the level of concern for a phototoxic reaction and because this is a wash-a-way product the amount of time the oils are on the skin is minimal and much of that is washed away.
