I wanted to thank you for your video! As a woman I love when I’m able to accomplish mechanical tasks on my own! My sunroof was making the exact same noise and was stuck open. With the upcoming rain I had to jump on getting it closed as soon as possible. By following your video step by step I was able to close it on my 2004 Toyota Highlander and saved big bucks! Trim removal technique is golden...thank you. Now to find the problem of sunroof not working. Power at both fuses ok, but no click whirrs or anything when moving either switch...tilt or open.

Thanks so much for this video, I now know what my mechanic did to close my roof probably for $40 which I was okay with (since it was going to rain ASAP), but with your video I will go in and actually replace the belt so it can work properly for next summer! Cheers ;)

Just problems, sunroofs make no sense as i am having costly problems with mine.
I've had several cars with a sunroof ( including the one I have now) and every single one either leaked or wouldn't work. Lol

This actually fixed my sunroof. About 3 months ago my sunroof wouldn't close, it acted like it was going to but at the last second it would just keep reopening. I did the manual close, Now it works fine and has been for months

Not the same vehicle, but helpful today see how these are constructed. Appreciate the video. Gave insight into the how to fix mine. And yeah at least get it closed so I can drive it and order parts to replace later!

good explanation of how to remove the part of head liner to get access and how to drop the parts so can access the broken track belt.
WOW I'm sure you can manually wind the roof shut with an allen key saves time on stripping every thing down. Appreciate you will have to do this eventually when the belt etc needs replacing
That's what I thought also but I haven't seen a way to manually close\open the sunroof on my 05 Tahoe
If that belt is jammed you won’t be able to close it without taking the belt out.

After watching this video I feel like I could maybe try this & see if I'm having the same issue with the belt....
I don't have a reliable mechanic to raid it to, my mechanic passed away a few years ago & the Kia dealership I refuse to go to because of precious issues with them
Nice, Id recommend attaching the two belts together & discarding the broken parts then leave switch unplugged.

Just for information. Ranger Rover sunroof’s do have an override default. If it’s just simply suck press and hold sunroof button down for 45-60 seconds (don’t let go) if motor is in working order it will default to properly close. If it still doesn’t set be careful not to break glass by forcing default to override too many times. If it’s off track the override default will only make noise and it quite possibly could be a belt inside/under interior frame. Hope this helps some sunroof problems. I have had multiple issues after entire new sunroof was replaced for over 4 grand which was incorrectly installed with Land Rover telling me the motor no longer worked! Guess what sunroof still not working but the motor works perfectly! Trustworthy, I think not. Thanks & best of luck!😅

I have everything open like you said and I am pulling on the broken belt and it’s not budging. I didn’t have to remove everything that you did to gain access to the belt. I have a Toyota 2005. The belt is hanging just like you showed in your video with the black plastic wrapper around it

I always like to help the motor by pushing it open and pulling when closing, just to take the strain off it. never had any problems with it so far, and my car is 10 years old.

I have a 2003 Montero Limited. My sunroof stuck fully open 3 years ago. Opened fine and then it wouldn't budge to close a couple of hours later. I had one person pull on the glass as I cycled the button on and off because it would move about 1/2" at a time that way, but only if a person tugged forward on the glass as I switched the switch on and off in forward position. So I got it 98% closed, but it doesn't go upward and entirely seal fully closed. That was 3 years ago.
What do you think the problem is?

Hi. My panoramic window stops at the very end when I close it. But one side stays up. The other side goes down nice. So it's only tilted on one side. Is it all about the belt Master?

I’ve had a dozen cars with electric sunroofs never a problem kept them for decades but a 2010 MKX 55000 original miles 5000 a year from 94 year old neighbors they probably never used it not even once. Looks brand new open the sunroof now I’m in trouble. And I bet they’re OEM you can’t get parts anywhere but from a dealer. I’m dumping it now just because of this. Low mileage is same problem as high mileage

I have something very similar on my MK6 GTI going on. Stays in tilt mode, when you try to close it it's all misaligned and cockeyed. makes knocking clunking noise

There might be hidden retaining clips holding it up.

Hi I have a Webasto aftermarket sunroof installed and same issue. The tilt won’t close. I took off the assembly and was able to remove the motor but I don’t see any cables? It’s electric so does that mean cables are there somewhere just hidden? Thanks
Either that or there might be gears to operate it. Maybe try to manually turn them.
Also, check if the motor is working, and if not - fix or replace it.

I think your best option would be a junk yard. It will be the cheapest and you will get a chance to safely practice replacing it....
@@DIYtimeTRD did you have to take the glass out to replace the track? From what I see in videos, the belt is part of the track and has to be replaced with the track.
I was helping my friend in this video. He decided not to fix it. He was happy with just closing and never using it again.

Does this work for 2002 lincoln continental? Anybody?
Lexus is350 2006 it’s not working for me. I pulled the belt on both sides but sunroof is not closing. Any ideas other than paying Lexus dealer 600-800 to fix this.
Ask someone to push down on the sunroof as you pull.
And if that doesn’t work, try to be pressing CLOSE button at the same time.
Also, check if there is another belt in there maybe. One belt could be driving gears, another belt goes from gears to the actual sunroof.
So was the whole unit removed from the car

Yeah, I have a towel wrap in a trash bag stuffed in my sun roof. Rain gets in and ruining stuff. I don't think I could do this I'm to afraid I'll make it worse.
