WEN 3921 Scroll Saw
amzn.to/2soKfuw
In this video, I will take a look at the WEN 3921 16" scroll saw. I will do some comparisons with higher-end saws. I will show you some tips to make this saw easier to use. I'll also give you an overall impression of how well it works. - Jak na to + styl
*This is my second WEN tool and they are both great **MyBest.Tools** I needed to do some trim work around the house and needed a scroll saw for the intricate work. No complaints so far.*
I can't thank you enough for all this info. This is seriously one of the best posts I've found. I appreciate the comparisons of the makers directions vs yours. The example of the more high end machine is also really helpful. I've been guilty of wanting to give up on a hobby because the entry level tools were difficult to work and so I assumed the higher end tools would be as well. Your blade changing on both machines reminds me not to assume all tools are so challenging. I can't wait to get started in this. Thank you again for sharing this.
I used a hundred dollar Ryobi for over 20 years. Used and abused; it got the job done. A few years ago I finally upgraded, and it was worth it for the ease of blade changing alone! However, I don't regret starting with a "cheap" saw one bit. I learned a lot and I got more than my money's worth out of it.
You must have been a shop teacher in a past life. Absolutely the best video out there on this machine, and you made my life a lot easier.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that you explain the details. MANY beginners are looking at cheap tools and we don't know the particulars (like blade specifics). Thanks for explaining those things! Great review, and great learning experience. You have a new subscriber!!

Fantastic demonstration! To the point without a lot of chit chat. Many thanks.
Just bought this to start my new CV19 hobby. Very informative for a newbie as i literally knew nothing on scrollsaws.
BEST video I've seen for this saw. And yeah, that side "tool box" thing is CRAP. I broke the clasp off the first time I tried to close it!!
Steve, good information for those looking for an entry level saw. Thanks for taking the time to do the video.
Hi Steve, love how you teach, it's informative and to the point while covering every question I had. Learned some new things too. Thanks again!!
For the pinless blade, there are two indents on the top, back of the upper arm where you put the adapters. This is to ensure of placement and proper length of the blade.
Thank you so much for giving tips on the pinless blade set up !!! I just got my Wen for Christmas and this was the only thing I had trouble with !!! you are my scroll saw hero !!! Merry Christmas
This was a very helpful video. Useful as I try and figure out which one to buy for my little shop. Thanks for a straight-ahead, informative presentation.
Looking into a good scroll saw for minor metal work, and thanks for doing a good in-depth look at this one. Saved me a mountain of frustration and taught me about pin-end blades.
Thanks for making this, lots of great information about the saw. You answered many questions I had about setup and use!
Sr I am starting in scroll saw like this and you have done a full comprehensive video with tips and excellent explanations. Big thanks from the bottom of my heart. Have a blessed year!!!
Taking the side cover off makes sense as far as simplifying blade changes. Ordered mine as a first go at scroll saw work and looking forward to checking it out. Super informative!
Thank you so much for explaining a newbie how to use this scroll saw. It was gifted to me and I am so excited to use it, and with your help I feel 100% confident I can change the blades as needed ❤
Thank you for this video. I got this saw last Xmas but have not really used it. Now I am encouraged to give it a whirl and the tips will make it more convenient. Your video was well done and easy to follow.

You, sir, are so good at your explanations. Very thorough and clear. thanks!
Thank you for this review. I’m just getting into wood crafting/hobby and was thinking about getting one of these. Thanks again
Wow! Such a helpful video! Thank you! I recently purchased this scroll saw- I'm a beginner- and feel much more confident in how to use it. Thanks for sharing your helpful hacks!
czcams.com/video/9fQoa5ViXsI/video.html&feature=share
Thanks Steve for the explanations. On top of the machine near where the tension of the machine has a 2 holes in the arm, they serve as template for placing the blades without pin. it may have been easier to put them on.
I liked the way you showed the 'Wen' recommended way and the way You change the blade. Informative without a lot of fluff. Liked and Subscribed.
Hi Steve so I've had this saw for about 1 yr to 1 yr & halve and I've learned more from you than I thought I I could else where. By my luck my saw didn't come with the upper & lower pinless clamps since I bought it second hand. Also I went into WEN's website and they are sold out so ill be waiting on that. Anyhow thank you for your time. God bless 🙏
Very nice explanation, Steve. I wouldn't want to do a lot of fine fretwork on this, but for an occasional project it would be quite useful, especially for the new scroll sawyer.
Thanks so much! Yours's is a very accurate description of this unit. I just bought one, and all the inconveniences you display are spot on. But, as you said, this isn't a tool I will be using a lot, just to play/teach the grand kids with, so it's a very capable machine for the non commercial user.
this WEN was my first saw. i used 2 small zip ties to hold the lower plain end adapter to the lower arm. this made threading the blade much easier. the top was still a pain.
Love the tip on using the magnet. I also have the same pinless blade adapter. This should help
Very informative video. I bought one last summer and just got around to tinkering with it. The blade head information was great. I unboxed mine and after seeing all the videos was fearing the pinned blades. Now I can swap over to real blades and not have to cough up a bunch of money on an upgrade so soon. Thanks for all the downloadable patterns as well. Really going to help with making clocks.
I've been toying with the idea of getting a scroll saw. You, sir, have answered all the questions I didn't even know I had.
Thank you!
Thanks. Well done review. I just bought a Tacklife scroll saw, which looks almost identical to the Wen. I couldn't figure out how to mount pinless blades, but your explanation saved me. I've used my saw for a few minutes & so far, so good. I think it was a good choice for a first time user like me.
Like the magnet idea. Have been using a pair of hemostats. lift the project grab the blade at the table top. Then i can change holes. Definitely going to try the magnet. If you make every third project for your wife. you can play longer. Thank you Steve for all you do
What great tips!!! Got this saw as a gift, knew it was a cheaper model, but couldn't wait. Except for larger cuts, fretwork was impossible with the pinned blades. Actually like being able to use both. The magnet tip was gold! Although the magnet doesn't stay in place, it's no problem placing it on and off especially with that cowling out of the way.. I've gotten pretty quick with taking the top adapter on and off. Followed every suggestion. I can't imagine figuring out all of this on my own. Thank you!!!!
Thanks very for taking the time to show a great break down!
Recent experience with a similar $100 saw has largely taken the wind out of my sails for this hobby : when a pinless blade slipped out of the clamping system, I re-tightened it, and then the screw inside the clamping device snapped/broke inside the clamp, so I had to return the saw to the store where I bought it. The solution of course is to buy a high-end saw, but these cost about 10-times as much as a DIY-store saw. I don’t think that it would be cost-prohibitive to equip a saw like this with an easy-to-use clamping system, such as the ones used by Pegas or Hegner. That would make the entry into this hobby much easier for beginners, and would avoid the hassle that the awkward clamping system has caused to me, and surely to many others too.
Good simple analysis & very helpful info for prospective buyer.
i picked up a Dremel 1680 variable speed for 75 dollars and it seems well made and is very heavy.
It uses both pined and plane end blades.
I had to derust the table but it works great now.
On the 1680 the cover under the table opens back on hinges which allows easy access without taking screws out.
Thanks for making and sharing this video. I'm looking forward to starting some small projects.
I live in Europe (scotland) and have an ALDI variant of the saw you have reviewed; I have also discarded thr cover/saw blade store thing. It makes it more useable if you do that: Be responsible for your own fingers.
Thanks for the informative video. I have ordered one and can't wait for it to arrive. Your tips will be a great help.

Thanks for sharing this video and your thoughts.
Great in depth review and tips. Thanks for the details.
Excellent detailed video! I learned so much! Thank you Sir!
Very good video Sir. I'm a beginner in "scrolling" so just hadn't a clue what to spend or what to buy. I think I'll give the "Wen 39/21" a go! Your honest explanations have clarified a lot of questions I wanted to ask Many thanks. Phil Edwards. Flintshire, North Wales. UK.
Very nicely done video, you gave me the information I needed to get started and thank you for doing that.
Very educational video! I want to upgrade to a newer entry-level scroll saw, this looks like something I could use. I don't use one often but I'd like to have air as an option. Very good review, detailed and educational.
I have the Central Machinery Scroll Saw. I replaced the adapter for pinless blades. It’s works a lot better with the new adapter. Also, I took off the side cover on the left side. For getting into the underside as well as vacuuming it out is easier. You video is great. Looking forward to getting a higher end soon.
This was a wonderful demonstration and review. I have the King Canada which is the same except for changing to pinless blades. I wish I had of seen this before purchasing mine. I would have chosen another higher quality saw even for my entry into scroll sawing. Thank you for sharing. I also love your patterns.
Very good video. Learned a lot. Thank You
This was a great demo to the 3921 Wen scroll saw. The directions in the box did not show how to use the pinless blades. Thanks for the video.
Excellent video, I really appreciate what you did to help new people like me who know next to nothing, thanks again ... Muchas gracias....
Just got this model for Christmas. This is a fantastic video. Thank you, sir.
Liked and subed!

Great presentation complimented with nice tips
Excellent review. Very thorough.
Thanks for all the info, I've just bought a scroll saw Holzmann DKS21 which is the same as yours [just different labels] only thing I found weird is the light only works when the saw is running so its no use for blade changes.
I was wondering how those inexpensive saws work. There is several look-a-likes so it is confusing. I actually started out with a good saw because I was in need of one. I bought the Delta variable speed 20" C arm it is a production saw and works great. Like you I have a collection of saws I don't really need but I like the variety. I have a Craftsman 18" the DeWalt 788 type one, a Hegner and an RBI HAWK which I really love. Good review.
Much appreciated. Clearly you are very familiar with the design and functionality of scroll saws. Your needs are likely different than mine and what is appreciated is that you state that at the beginning and then proceed to show me how i might use my entry level saw (Ryobi) in a way that maximizes it's potential. Thank you
Now this is a good review. You present a lot of clear, specific details about the saw and how to use it. I know it was a lot of work, but I really appreciate the section on using the pinless adapters. I wish all the reviews were this good.

As usual steve, you've done the scroll saw world a world of good. Your video answered so many questions that a newbie might have. Now all we have to do is get the word out about your video. I posted it on Scrollsaw Village so I hope that will help.
Thanks, Ray. That is very kind of you to say.
19:30 good idea on the magnet.
Well done, Steve!
I’m in process of looking for a scroll saw and you helped me alot with this video! Thanks
Hi Jamie. I just ordered the upgrades WEN 3922. I should have it in a couple of days. I will review the changes and post another video.
Steve Good hi, thank you so much for your reply. Yeah I just ordered the 3922 coming on Saturday, please di some quick tip review on that, I’m a DIY/beginner
Great video. I learned a lot from it.
Awesome job explaining everything. Liked and subscribed
I have a much better light and blower on my Vonhause machine but the rest is the same. Your information really helps. Thanks
I have an old Dremel that is about the same saw. The clamp hangers on my saw have a piece of metal, like a spring, on top and bottom. It holds the blade clamps on the hangers. Looks like it would be easy enough to remove the screw on the bottom hanger and put a thin piece of metal on, then the hanger then put it back on the machine. That would keep the hanger from falling off when tension is removed. I also bought several extra blade clamps. I keep one on the top arm of the saw and put the others on the blades I plan to use. When I change a blade all I do is release the tension and remove the center plate, pop the blade clamp off the bottom hanger and pop the next blade in. I leave the top hanger on the arm and hold the blade while bringing the arm down, guide the blade into the clamp and tighten the screw.
I like Steve he is really good!
I have a scheppach it’s the same scroll saw just rebranded, it came as a package deal, foot control, variable speed and a cable attachment to use for grinding and engraver with a small box of grinding wheels, sanding drums and discs, it was too good to pass up, it works fine but as Steve said it has a few limitations, if I ever need a replacement I would probably go for an Excalibur and definitely with a foot pedal, I hoped this helps anyone else, it’s still a great entry level saw
Great video! Very helpful. I have major issues with my wood bouncing all over the place (yes, the blade teeth are in the correct direction) and I can hardly hold onto the wood I am working on. It is not flat wood and pretty thin and delicate. I don't know what to do to solve it. Any suggestions would be wonderful! Thanks! :)
What a terrific video! One of the best. Thanks so much
I don't understand this review. Aren't you supposed to spend the whole video taking things out of a box and then dramatically throw the manual away... because, y'know, you're a DIYer who can figure sh#t out? Seriously though, THANK YOU. To have an actual review by someone who knows what they're talking about and actually has expertise and insight into a product's offerings and its limitations is so rare on the University of CZcams. This was incredibly helpful and is directly influencing my purchasing decision. Thank you!
You had me worried for just a moment. :)
I am highly impressed with your review! So informative and helpful. I am new to the scroll saw world, but so excited! Your review helped me a lot. Thanks so much! ***And I also very much appreciate you showing both perspectives (the Wen's and yours)! Liked and Subscribed!

Great advice, thanks
Great Video! You just earned another Sub. Thanks! I'm just getting back I to throw Hobby. I'm expecting my WEN 3923 to be delivered today. 30 years ago, I got started on a Dremel Scroll Saw. Then life happened and I haven't touched one in 25 years. My Daughter did a project in School on a scroll Saw and asked me if I'd consider adding one to my little basement workshop, so I immediately ordered the WEN. Im as excited as her to make some Holiday Projects together😊
Welcome back to the hobby. I also have thousands of free patterns and a daily blog that I write. Hope to see you there. scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/
WEn should have paid you to do this!! You are really good at explain how the saw works, specially how to set it up. THANK YOU!!

Thank you so very much for your videos. I can't wait to get a scroll saw. Do you have a link to the pedal you have? I have one saved in my Amazon cart, but I'm not sure if it's the same one or same style. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. So thankful for you and your time.
Great review! 👍
very informative. Thanks!
Thanks Steve. I have 2 Wens one at home and one in my little retirement shop. I have made a number of projects successfully although I recognize the shortcomings. So far I have worked around them. I appreciate you suggestions. And observations. They will help. I have used many of you patters from your website. Thanks a bunch!

U sir, r a blessing. There's a difference between being cheap and having no money. I have little money. But, REALLY want 2 get n2 this. So, as soon as I get my monthly SS check, I'm buying 1.
Ok, enuf about poor me.
U just saved me a ton of aggravation. I'd b cussing up a storm changing blades. I know nothing about scrolling. U just shared a wealth of information. I am considering this saw, not sure yet. Thank u.
Professional presentation ;)
Loved that blooper🤣
Thank you so much!
Very well balanced, like it, thanks.
The WEN 3921 met my expectations and found it to be functional after a few adjustments. I added a light shade (piece of tape) to reduce flickering; a foot switch ($13) and magnifying glass ($5). Like your idea of adding a magnet to bottom arm for pinless blades. Not perfect scroll saw but works for my hobby projects.
Great detailed tutorial. One thing I have noticed with the budget scroll saws the aluminum table contributes to more vibration .
Most budget tables have a punched hole that raises and deforms the surface of the table I.e. the opening is the high point.
To check take a straight edge lay it across the top of the table to verify. Also the blower blows the fine dust towards you.
Wear a mask ? Wish it blew the dust away from you.
new sub here...nice vid...those blade changes for the plain end blades would drive me crazy...lol...very nice channel sir...be safe be kind
Great video
Excelente idea amigo la del imán
great video, I have been using a porter cable entry level for the past couple years looking to upgrade but just trying to justify the expense . wonder what should be the height level of the saw? floor to table on saw was wondering if I have mine to low from the floor I look over my projects causing some back fatigue any suggestions. thank for the daily messages.
My scroll saw is set at the same height as my elbows when setting so arms and back aligned with saw table and remain relaxed. If back problems continue consider a standing bench and saw set as same height as elbows. Seems to work for hobby use.
Thank you so much! I just used mine for the first time today. I wish l had seen your video first. Getting the pinless blade into the machine nearly drove me crazy with the scratched hands amd bent blade. Tomorrow l am going back with a screwdriver and a magnet!
czcams.com/video/9fQoa5ViXsI/video.html&feature=share
@@ade-woodcrafts No way am l doing that to my saw!
@@babysaho9576 I just needed more light every time I worked on my scroll saw, so I came up with this idea, which I want to share with you.czcams.com/video/7kmCsPvu-fc/video.html&feature=share
Very informative nice review sir
Could you if possible review or recommend steps up in price for someone not wanting a temporary unit best value quality under 200
you convinced me on the wen i got the 3923 the pinless hardware came w/ wing nuts no allen wrench (that's convenient) but they sent two more of something similar .Their isn't a hole in the bottom for the blade nor is their a cross pin to slide over the keeper Ia'm totally confused you tube doesn't have any references for the 3923. perhaps with your influence you could ask them what and how to use the extra keepers they sent. Thanks for yr advice about the entry level wen.
Very helpful
What is the best kit to buy to convert to pinless blades?
Thanks from Turkey.
Found 'regular' clamps for blade changes. Took the factory assembly off; the new clamps just fit into place with the same screws. Now I can just unscrew the top clamp for blade hole insertion...makes it a "hole" lot easier. Great Review! :-)
Joseph Snyder where’d you get these?
same question
Good video. I have this saw in Australia which is marketed under a different name. I have struggled with the blade installation and have taken the side plate cover off too. the main problem I have is the 2 pinless clamps having set screws to tighten the blade into the holder which means I have to use a set screw wrench and is very awkard to say the lease. The thumb screws on your model would make it much easier to insert the blade and I will see if they are available in Australia. There is an Olson conversion kit that has a much better clamp system sells is Australia for around $40Aus. I like the idea of the magnet and will give that a try tomorrow. My main SC a Hegner gave up the ghost today so I have to percivere with this one until I get some more cash to buy a better one.
Hi Steve, thank you very much for this info. I have a question: do you recommend the WEN saw for intricate work with polyethylene foam? Thanks.
Im interested here as well, as with foam I would have always thought a hot wire cutter would be the best option.
Good job
Thanks video
