      Thanks! I think these pieces get a lot of shade from people who aren't the target customers. I've shown these to a bunch of neighbors, none of whom want a gym like I had with a full rack, etc, and all of them thought they might like something like these. They are just right for that application!

    I have the REP FB 5000 in the clear coat with the wide pad and it is the best bench in the world for doing bench press.
    It's looks Fantastic and the wide pad is by far the best pad I've ever benched on. You will love it.
    The clear coat costs a little more but it is worth it.
    After using it, I would never so bench press with another bench.
    I have REP AB 3000 and tried it benching and it doesn't come close the FB 5000.
    I actually hate benching on the AB 3000 now so it stays out of my rack and over by the dumbbells.
    IMO, the REP FB 5000 with the wide pad is the best flat bench ever made and whoever out there that doesn't have one needs to get one, you will never use another bench to bench press again.

    Yeah I agree with the Rep Benches they are both really nice. Personally I prefer the AB5200 for my gym, but one bench I think one bench that folk don’t know about is the Crandall Fitness FID bench. FB5000 Is also a nice flat bench the only possible better one is the rogue monster bench, but it’s double the price

    • @GymCrafter
      @GymCrafter  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The FB5000 is on the way. The more I think about getting back on a nice flat bench (I got it with the wide pad too), the more I'm looking forward to it. Now if I can get these kiddie racks out of my gym so I can lift like a grown boy again!😂 I don't trust the jhooks or the safeties on these things with more than 225 and even that's iffy. Plus the safety arms are so short, they don't really do anything anyway. I keep hearing about Crandall, supposed to be a great company.

  • @bobbyhunt3009

    Well said Tim, these type racks are good for people who want an inexpensive functional trainer but as for the rack don't trust the safeties over 325 lbs..
    I say this because I bought one just for the functional trainer and it is worth the $734 to my door that I spent. However after using it, I will say save your money and get a selectorized cable set up, the plate loading and unloading does get a bit tedious.

    I have a landmine mount from Titan that attaches under the rack rather than up on the sides. I put it in the middle of the rack under the back crossmember. That way less sticks out past the front of the rack. You don't need 7' plus all around it.

    Have you had a chance to try a Rogue bar since they reworked them? I heard that Rogue has recently reworked the OPBs to have lower profile grooved sleeves and better tolerances, mostly because thier tolerances kind of suck compared to newer barbells. (Reps bars, specifically, but it seems like there's even more barbells now that are just better).

    • @GymCrafter
      @GymCrafter  Před 2 měsíci

      I have not, but it's great to hear they are finally addressing those issues! The reason I only own one Rogue bar is that every time you drop one or even set it on the jhooks hard, you can hear it rattling a mile away. I was always unimpressed with their tolerances, especially compared to American Barbell and now the new Rep bars. It's awesome what a little competition will do! It's good to see Rogue stepping up instead of always relying on their name to sell stuff. I'm looking forward to seeing them at Home Gym Con next year.

I’ve tweaked my back over the years doing back squats but can’t seem to give up squat variations lol I do power cleans and some other oly lifts as well and for me a needle bearing bar was the best. I don’t think the wonder bar has needle bearings. I got the outlaw bar from trugrit and 2 years later it’s still fantastic for cleans. I got it super cheap as they sponsored a CrossFit competition in NorCal and I got one of those used bars which were only used at the competition. I think fringe now makes needle bearing bars but my trugrit bar is still holding strong

    Do you realize Fringesport's New Dane Functional Trainer has the heaviest weight stacks that has ever been put on a Functional Trainer and are actually usable.
    It's 160 lb. Stacks with a 1:1 Ratio is equivalent to a 320 lb. Stack with a 2:1 Ratio. The highest Stack I've ever seen is a 300 lb. Stack and they are all 2:1 Ratios.
    There is a 1:1 Ratio machine (G20, I think) but the cable is too short for use the Dane offers the heaviest Stack on a functional trainer that is usable

    • @GymCrafter
      @GymCrafter  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yep! That's the number one reason I was attracted to it. I never understood getting a cable stack with 120 lbs at a 2 to 1 ratio. Like, what are 60 lbs gonna do for you? Unless Rep sends me something big for free (which they won't), I don't see another better option for how I will be training for the next decade. It will be weird not having a full rack, but I'm sure I'll get used to it!

    Tim, what are the differences between the Major Fitness rack and the Rit Fit rack??
    In my research it seems like they are very similar.
    I have seen videos where a reviewer thought that Rit Fit might have used 16 gauge steel instead of 14 gauge, they couldn't tell but they said Major's steel looked and felt thicker.
    Maybe they were some of those Major Fitness reviewers where there videos are like commercials for Major, who knows. I am curious though in the differences.
    I was under the impression that Major was a higher quality company than Rit Fit.
    Thnkx

    • @GymCrafter
      @GymCrafter  Před 2 měsíci +1

      The best way to describe it is that the Major is just awkward. The Smith bar doesn't rack high enough to get out of the way so when loading the cable system, it's a pia. The Smith safeties are too far apart so you really can't get a good adjustment dialed in. The bars the Smith gllides on are wobbly and don't feel secure. The Smith unlocks the wrong way, so you can't get a good grip on the bar. The bar itself has terrible knurling, finish, and sleeves. I could go on for a while. I think people are too caught up in the steel gauge on these. The customer that these are right for isn't lifting enough for it to matter. The RitFit is more spacious inside, MUCH easier to assemble, has way better attachments, the Smith is smoother and more stable and the pins are more secure. Neither is something I'd keep for myself, but for a beginner, they are a nice solution. Where the Major wins big time is in shipping and packaging. RitFit clearly saves money by just bubble wrapping each part and cramming it in the box. Major had perfect packaging, so the parts are all in better shape. On the R'itFit, there are nicks and scratches all over it. The finish looks like it was a customer return or something. But functionally, it's much more enjoyable to use than the Major. There are a couple of channels and Insta pages out there that basically now have every Major Fitness rack and I don't see the need to test more than one.

      A lot of Major's faults are with the Smith machine, I hate Smith machines and will never use one. Hate the way it feels, Great explanation, I didn't realize there are so many differences between the two companies
      Oh yeah, please don't review another Major rack, this rack will be enough.
      As you know I told you I have a rack just like the Major rack w/o the Smith and I use it for my functional trainer and it is okay, it works but nothing great so I know everything about it and when I hear these reviewers praising Major Fitness like they are King's it drives me up the wall.
      One guy, carries all Major's stuff in his gym and his channel is a commercial for Major and that is what Major wants.
      I do not watch him, hahaha

      @@bobbyhunt3009 100% agree. I spent the first several years of GymCrafter talking people out of Smith machines. It's crazy to me that every single company is releasing one this year. I just don't get it. Having two in my garage now just reinforces that. I really don't like using them for much. Pretty good for calf raises and really good for teaching clients what a straight bar path feels like on squats, but that's about it.

I'll never do the other movements you can do on them. I either don't train that pattern, or have a way I prefer that doesn't require a new bench. From my perspective, it doesn't make sense to buy the Pepin x Rep Fitness Fast 125 lb adjustable dumbbells, which the pre-order price is $1299.99 unless you are a powerlifter or weightlifter, who routinely does maximal sets of 1 to 5 repetitions with 125 lb adjustable dumbbells.
    Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky, who is a world-renowned sports biomechanist and former strength and conditioning consultant for the former Soviet Union's Olympic teams, and current Emeritus Professor of Kinesiology at Penn State University wrote the book, SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF STRENGTH TRAINING, which heavily influenced the late Louie Simmons of Westside Barbell Club fame.
    Zatsiorsky has helped train hundreds of Olympic and world-class athletes.
    Zatsiorsky lists 3 different methods of strength training: (1) the Maximal Effort Method, in which as much weight is lifted, or as much force as possible is exerted; (2) the Repeated Effort Method, in which a nonmaximal weight or nonmaximal force is exerted to failure; and (3) the Dynamic Effort Method, in which a nonmaximal (intermediate) weight is lifted, or a nomaximal (intermediate) force is exerted as fast as possible.
    According to Zatsiorsky, a motor unit, or muscle cell, that is not recruited in an exercise is not trained, and a motor unit, or muscle cell that is recruited, but not fatigued, is also not trained.
    The best way to fatigue as many motor units, or muscle cells as possible, is by training to failure using the Repeated Effort Method of Strength Training.
    Zatsiorsky also lists the Submaximal Effort of Strength Training as a supplemental method under his Repeated Effort Method of Strength Training, which is not to failure but to high repetitions.
    The issue is whether it is reasonable to buy a 125 lb set of adjustable dumbbells when the best way to achieve muscle hypertrophy and endurance is by using the Repeated Effort Method of Strength Training to failure, which is done with nonmaximal weight and far less than 125 lbs for most home gym owners.
    The Pepin x Rep Fitness 125 lb adjustable dumbbells is also being sold on pre-order for an 85 lb pair and 105 pair for $899.99 and $1,099.99 respectively.
    However, I also already own rubber coated-hex dumbbells from 5 lbs to 100 lbs in 5 lb increments and also a pair of Powerblocks along with other types of adjustable dumbbells, which includes spin-lock standard weight plate dumbbells, the Kensui Fitness AdjustaBell, and adjustable dumbbells for Olympic weight plates.
    Since most of my training uses the Repeated Effort and Dynamic Effort Methods of strength training, I already own more than I need.
    There is a purpose for using the Maximal Effort Method. Still, Zatsiorsky warns that beginners should not use it because its primary limitation is the high risk of injury.
    Zatsiorsky also warns that the Maximal Effort Method when employed with a small number of repetitions (e.g., 1 to 5) has relatively little ability to induce muscular hypertrophy or muscle growth.
    Since many home gym owners are willing to spend many thousands of dollars on the latest and greatest home gym equipment, like functional trainers, power racks, and adjustable dumbbells, I highly recommend that anyone considering creating a home gym first buy Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky's book, SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF STRENGTH TRAINING, which he or she can buy new for around $112 or $56 used on Amazon so they can design a logical science-based strength training method, which will influence what kind of home gym exercise equipment he or she should buy.
