T'pols Wedding

Perhaps this is long overdue for an explanation. See, way back when, I was doing what used to be called TwitLit -- writing a story 140 characters at a time. I was doing a story about the poor slob who sent all those red shirts to their doom. As part of the story, the hero (who was Archer's great-grandson) met, and fell in love with T'Pol's grand daughter. To go along with my story, a friend of mine who did a lot of work with POSER made pictures of my characters for me. I posted this video clip, so he could see what a Vulcan Wedding ceremony was like.
Although he never got around to the actual wedding picture... - Zábava
That kiss meant the world.

I love that they used the same dialog "This is the Vulcan Heart, this is the Vulcan soul, this is our way." that was used in "Amok Time".
Yes. And as the decades have passed, I have grown to appreciate "Amok Time" more and more: brilliantly creative writing, great character development, gripping music, etc.
@@RevelQT You could make an argument that tradition is important to them. Vulcans used to be very different historically. It was only logic and discipline that saved them.
@@dandeliondown7920 Written by the legendary Theodore Sturgeon.
From his IMDB page - " Coined the famed phrase "Live long and prosper" in the premiere episode of the second season of Star Trek: The Original Series (1966), "Amok Time" (according to an interview with Leonard Nimoy)."

SPOCK: Captain, there is a thing that happens to Vulcans at this time: almost an insanity, which you would no doubt find distasteful.

Love that little look of shock from the lady playing her attendant. So well done.
And (based on her eyebrows) the attendant is Vulcan, so the actress must display shock in a very controlled way. Well done indeed.

This is one of the saddest moments of this series.
Sad because she had to marry Koss to help her mother regain her job and sad that her mother died to get divorced from Koss to marry Trip (if she did) and then break up with him.
I think that T''Les understood what T'Pol meant to Trip. When Trip is getting dressed in her dead husband's clothes, she's brushing lint ftom his lapel and telling him that even though she doesn't approve of his and T'Pol's relationship, she does understand how he feels for her daughter. She understands that he loves her enough to let her go.
Nahhhh Trip got a smooch

Trip, like me, was probably wishing it were his and T'Pol's wedding day, without all the Vulcans.
She's allowed friends
I'm watching this for the first time in a long time and it is gonna make me cry!😭
You can tell this is the happiest day of her life.
Ooooh the sarcasm is strong with this one.
it must be heart breaking to be there standing while your loved one marry someone else. His death, maybe is a sweet destiny rather to live and coupe with it...
I prefer the books where he didn't die - and the plans for a fifth season in which he didn't die, either.
This series suffered from uneven writing beyond just about any other Star Trek.
Sadly. So much to like here, but, boy, there sure had some lousy moments and his death was one.
@@ethelryan257 I still have trouble believing Trip died. There was a video that showed Trip leaving the Enterprise to go to another ship like as described in the first book, "The Good That Men Do". They cut out that scene to add that silly holoprogramme with Riker and Troi. Trip faked his death to get disguised as a Romulan to infiltrate them. He gave a note to Archer to give T'Pol. She was to go meet Trip and know that he was still alive. That too was deleted.

So sad, this scene. T'Pol looks so vulnerable, almost terrified. And Trip, I was never particularly fond of him, but seeing him standing there for T'Pol's sake, while God knows how he felt inside... damn.
To feel another's pain, even someone you don't necessarily like, is a sign of a truly compassionate human being. Live long and prosper.
You were never fond of him? Did he threaten your masculinity?
@@mistermysteryman107 t I totally I totally agree. Trip has been a Terril be written character from the start. It’s not until light season three actually, starting to like them fact most the cruise didn’t start actually progressing as real characters until around that time. For me, it wasn’t until Manny Cotto began writing episodes and taking the best aspects of these characters and actually doing something with them. Seasons, one and two Trip was about as convincing an engineer as Jimmy Joe Meeker as an oil man (50 points if you got that joke). You couldn’t take anything he said seriously. He got an aerospace engineering because he worked on riverboats? Do you think that was a joke in there but he’s being absolutely serious. Not to mention both he and archer are just incompetent assholes. Berman and Braga really did this show dirty. The show is hamstrung since broken Bow. But they are small moments throughout the first two seasons that just scream Star Trek exploration, and the Donathan new era of humanity. None of it was explored. One of my favorite line some really small one purchase shows the potential of what the show was gonna be about and it’s a really small line. It’s an archer in trip are discussing the Warp five engine. “Neptune and back in six minutes.” that line always stuck with me and I wish I got more like it.
I wish that this show was still on the TV.
In the UK, it is.
I feel like Spock took emotional suppression to the extreme as a half Vulcan, like he was compensating.
I agree with you on that - he seemed a little less uptight after the V'ger incident. In general though, I notice there seems to be 2 type of Vulcans, ones that suppress their emotions and ones that control them (Tuvok's teacher in the episode 'Gravity' seemed like one of this type).
@@littlewillie65 Being inside McCoy probably helped too... And being brougbt to life by his friends at such a price.

I am surprised that Vulcans don't find marriage illogical. What with the penalty of filing a joint tax return and all.
Maybe the Vulcan tax code is more logically structured.

That kiss made me get a little misty, just a little, you know, like I got a bit of sand in my eyes. Oh, shut up. Can't a guy get a bit emotional????
If I redid Enterprise, I would keep this wedding but have Trip and T'pol wed and same with Hoshi and Mayweather.
Let's be honest, its a good job you aren't redoing Enterprise then
almost forgot that scene
Just an fyi, in the novels they got married later and had two children. Trip's death was faked and he did some undercover work for section 31 for awhile before leaving it and marrying T'Pol under a fake name.
That's nice and all, but it's no more canon than my fan fiction novel that has her grand daughter marrying Archers great grandson.
That should have been part of this series.
I so wish Enterprise could have lasted. So many story lines not explored.
I know, and the way the ended it made it that much worse.

According to the novels in the end they didn't end up with each other
Yeah, but according to Memory Alpha, the novels aren't canon. Of course, the novels probably said that because they did it that way in the actual show.
I made a mistake I meant to say in the novels they did end up with each other
@@thomassalois3508 My comment on them being canon still applies - but even I wrote a similar storyline into my fan fiction - not with Tripp and T'Pol, but with similar characters. So I think most people were disappointed with the way they took the story.
I never liked T’Pol. She returns home, has Trip come with her knowing full well how he feels about her, then expects Trip to stand there and watch her marry someone else. Very cruel.
The thing is, T'Pol was put in a position where she didn't have much of a choice. I think this marriage was probably harder on her than anyone else.
To be fair to T'Pol, she didnt plan for any of this. When she invited Trip home, she thought it was empty, but because of Vulcan shenanigans, her mother was there. Then that pointy eared bastard showed up still expecting her to marry him, all the while her mother pushed her to do so. A quiet vacation needlessly turned into family drama.
Vulcans do arranged marriages which are agreed upon at seven years old (Vulcans have a mating drive every seven years after maturity). So T'Pol has no choice but to uphold her family's end of the contract.
But one or both parties can annul the marriage. T'Pols husband did this in a latter episode and Spock's wife did this too, sometimes this process will involve a fight to the death if it is challenged.
@@MajorGeneralVeers If I was running the Federation I would exclude the Vulcans for having these backwards customs that violate the children's right to choose.
@@cyrusol That's not how the UFP works buddy, every member species has considerable autonomy. If Vulcans in general have no issue with their customs them why ban it?

Wow, you letterbox the video and the put your watermark where the video is. Why couldn't you put it in the black area where the video isn't? Any why do big?
CZcams only gives you so many options - I could have put it dead center with the links on either side. I chose what I thought worked best, and delayed it to the end where it wouldn't matter. Also, I didn't letterbox it, Paramount Home Entertainment did. Also, this video is almost 14 years old - something I did on a whim. Little did I know it would become the most watched thing on my channel, so yes, I'm going to put at least some promotion on it, since I'll never make any money from it (although with my paltry few subscribers, I may never make any money from anything on CZcams)...
@@littlewillie65 I've seen others put they watermark smaller and elsewhere on the screen. Maybe you need to update your options.
@@charlescox290 If they are, they are put in during the original editing of the video, not in youtube studio. Or maybe, if you pay money, you get better options. Allow me to repeat, this is a FOURTEEN YEAR OLD VIDEO. When I made this video, there were a lot fewer options than there are now. I'm making no money on this - and on this video I never will. If the placement of links bothers you so much, why don't you go on Amazon and buy the original series on DVD or BluRay.
But didn't Trip and Tpol meet their son ?????
That's in an alternate timeline: season 3, "E=mc2" (great episode with lots of character development)
The alternate timeline was between T'Pol and Archer, the normal timeline there was a daughter Robocop created to inflame tensions between Earth and Vulcan.
Why is the ceremony in English? For Trip? For the budget?

Honestly,i would have married Koss,he's cute
He's also the son of an influent minister as well as security officer.
May be there's something T'Pol knew we don't. She did break up with him long before she came home it seems.
What doesn't make any sense is how can a human, full of emotion and lust can marry someone lacking in emotion? Couldn't he have just purchased a sex android? What makes less sense is a Vulcan marrying a human unless it's a marriage of inconvenience or an alliance of families or nations like in the ancient times.
I don't think android technology was very advanced at the time of Enterprise, so there's that. And to quote Sarek, when asked why he married Amanda, "It seemed logical at the time."
My thinking has always been that there are 3 types of Vulcans. Ones that suppress their emotions, ones that control their emotions, and ones that just hide them from other Vulcans. I fully realize that this is an interpretation based solely on how the various actors chose to portray the Vulcan characters they portrayed, but it seems reasonable to me.
Vulcans do not lack emotions. They are trained to suppress them.
@@waydegardner7373Exactly. They suppress them in all public settings, but privately (and behind closed doors) they might let their guard down.
Hated this episode. They should have had Trip marry T'pol.
I recognized the text spoken by the man as the text spoken by T'Pau at Spock's wedding. I was, however, hoping for a challenge, but Trip wimped out apparently. Damn!
He may not have been allowed to - in 'Amok Time' it was T'Pring that issued the challenge, not Stonn. Tripp may not have had standing in the matter. I also think he cared enough for T'Pol to let her go to do what she thought was right.
Excuse me.
If T'pring was authorized to lawfully reject our beloved Spock, with the "kal-ee-fee" (i.e., the challenge), then why did not T'pol call for the same?
Clearly, T'pol does not desire her betrothed one. Clearly, T'pol desires Trip.
I am confused.
She married him to protect her mother -- I don't remember the whole story, but her mom was in a bad situation that this marriage would help resolve in her favor, so T'pol did it for her.
Remember the P'jem incident when Archer and crew opened up the door in that monastery and found out that this "technology free" area was actually chocked full of it? The truth was that the Vulcans were spying on the Andorians. All the pictures of the truth were brought to the council. Later in "Home", we find out why T'Pol's mom really stepped down from her position at the Science Academy. The High Command blamed T'Pol for the discovery of the P'Jem listening station and they punished her family for that.
Marrying Kos was a way to restore honor to T'Pol's family. Kos would speak to a highly placed person in his family who would influence the Vulcan High Command to drop the matter of the incident as a favor. That was the condition given T'Pol's mom being able to regain her position at the Science Academy. we all know that T'Pol began to hate her mother after this and they were not reconciled until her death at the edge of the Forge. Mum became a follower of Syrran, a Syrranite. Archer, carrying Surak's Katra, brought the original writings of Surak to the High Command and so began the "Vulcan Renaissance" as it were, a revival in the wake of the discovery. Kos, with the reason for the marriage now gone, releases T'Pol from her promise.
Funny how before Kirk they found out so much about the Vulcans but Kirk (and crew) were oblivious to it..... that's where prequels suck the most.....
I mean, the Vulcans are relatively private and secretive, and this is like, 100 years before TOS. I always took it that the Vulcans were rather distant from involving themselves heavily in the federation until at least TNG, because of the significant technological difference between them and humans.
And I bet Trip didn't talk about it much and since he 'died' a few months later, nobody else knew. I liked the openmindedness of T'Pol's mother though. She seemed rough at the beginning but turned out to be a very reasonable Vulcan female. She still had trouble to accept Trip's feeling for her daughter but didn't despise him altogether. She even talked to him about her own, seemingly dead, husband a sign of trust on her behalf.
Can t pol get pregnant with trip babies?
Well, Amanda (a human female) was able to have Sarek's child, so one could assume that it would work the other way as well. There is an episode of Enterprise (actually 2) which featured a cloned child incorporating Trip and T'Pol's DNA. For more info...
