Watch this video before buying the Greenworks Commercial 40V top-handle chainsaw if you have a bunch of 40V G-Max batteries! Yes I should've charged the battery first.
This saw is from Greenworks Pro, the consumer brand. Greenworks Commercial's top-handled chainsaw, the 48TH12, is 48 volts, and, when used with their 21700-cell battery (the BAM704), is far more powerful (2,000 watts).
The 40v residential battery does not seem to fit in the charger, but does it fit in the saw? I would assume not? But want to clarify. Thanks for the video.
The commercial battery is missing a tiny tab that can be removed from the residential battery to make it work in the commercial saw. The chargers are different and charge at different rates, hence the very small difference in the battery. Was going to do the modification to my batteries since they are now out of warranty, just haven't gotten around to that yet.
Disappointing that Greenworks has changed the battery so that it is not backwards compatible. I would return it. I hope this new version does not have the same poor quality thermal cut-out as the old version. My 40v Greenworks chainsaw only worked for a few months before the thermal cut-out failed whereas I recall that yours has been OK for a few years. Does the new 40v battery use 18650 cells or the new larger size developed by Panasonic & Tesla? 🤔
No idea on the cell size. The battery wasn't fully charged so it didn't do much un the initial cut test. Was under the gun to get a quick video shot as storms were coming.
