    One thing I've noticed about watching Allman Brothers Band concert videos from various years: It doesn't matter if it's Duane & Dickey, or Dickey & Warren, or Dickey & Derek, or Derek & Warren -- you're going to hear some of the best rock guitar playing that you've ever heard.

      @@Rational_Mind I think they were still amazing during the many years that Warren & Derek were the two guitarists, after Dickey's unfortunate departure. But I agree that we have to give a ton of credit to Dickey. He is an amazing guitarist, he provided needed leadership to the band, and he wrote some great songs -- including what is arguably the best rock instrumental ever (In Memory of Elizabeth Reed).

      Dickey is probably the most under-rated guitarist ever. He lived in the shadow of the great Duane Allman, who admired him and his playing technique tremendously. Then Duane was gone and he must have felt somewhat abandoned by his untimely death but he still had the talent and the belief in the dream to step up and save the band from the immense tragedy they suffered, and did he ever! But he has been a cantankerous asshole at times and he's burned too many bridges, needless to say, along the way. I was glad to hear he made peace with Gregg before he died...

Great band! Here now in the 21st century, music struggles to reassert itself past dancing fools, bad poetry and a beat to tap your feet to. But the music, American music, will never die! From this great land such music was berthed. Jazz, Blues, and Rock and Roll are as American as apple pie. The music will come back from where it has strayed, it always does!

For the lovers that night in Germany, however, they to this day wax fondly as they likely often do telling friends of that night when they were transported to a place they'd never been before or since.

Oh wait! No, they wouldn't say that because there was no great music being created like in those shitty 60's. Drafted. Didn't die over there. This music got us through.

    Greatest instrumental song ever written by the one and only Dickie Betts! I’ve been listening to the Allman Brothers since 1970. Dickie Betts is the greatest, Skydog even said it “ I’m the famous guitar player but Dickie Betts is the real guitar player.” It takes talented musicians to jam like this. Warren Haynes definitely fits into that mode and I can’t say enough about Allen Woody driving that bass line! Skydog and Berry were smiling down on this performance!

    For those that don't know. Dickey and Duane used to jam in a cemetery, and they played by a tombstone on which said "In memory of Elizabeth Reed"

      Mike Van - "Elizabeth Reed Napier." 😃

    • @yvonnelaurenty6427
      @yvonnelaurenty6427 Před 5 lety +4

      To Mike Van: Not actually. There is a telling of how this tune came about by DB to Dan Rather-- a story of how Dickey used to take a lady friend to that cemetery "to romance her" as he didn't have much money then to take her out properly. And then the X-rated version of the carnal pleasures DB enjoyed there with somebody's lady he was sneakin' around with, as told by Duane Allman. Their gravestone rendezvous was indeed inscribed "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed." No matter the telling, an amazing inspiration for this amazing rock instrumental.

    • @charlesvonbocker5785
      @charlesvonbocker5785 Před 5 lety +2

      Yvonne Laurenty Yvonne not exactly - the grave stone in reference is from Rose Hill Cemetery - Macon, Ga. The Grave stone simply says “Elizabeth Jones Reed” - wife of Briggs H.Napier. Dickey did indeed hang there with his gf, and the song is “In Memory of her” bc that was his spot etc. I have a picture from my last visit but can’t upload. Do a search - plenty of pics out there. Beautiful place if you ever visit.

    • @kjoliver4125
      @kjoliver4125 Před 5 lety +1

      The grave just has her name on it, Elizabeth Jones Reed. It also has Wife of Briggs H. Napier. Her date of birth, and her date of death. I saw it two weeks ago. I think there was more hanky-panky going on there than jamming...

It was the fourth song they played, like a wave sweeping me up. Immediately I was mesmerized. I can still feel it. There was a tremendous amount of energy and awe in the audience.
