      The atom could be smartest car to use on all tracks because it doesn't have the mass momentum to keep going into the wall after it goes off road. It also doesn't cost as much as a GT3 Class vehicle and it can keep up I assume. I also assume it's cheap and easy to repair as everything is exposed.

      @howabouthetruth2157 Před 8 lety +10

      +ΓΙΑ ΠΑΝΤΑ ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ It wasn't "the limits of the car", it was the limit of experience, talent & ability of THE DRIVER. He's coming into the throttle too much exiting the corner, instead of feathering into the throttle. You can't just stomp the gas pedal to the floor in a corner. Unless the car your driving happens to be a real dog & lacking power. But this car certainly has plenty of power, that's obvious, and exactly why HE spun the car out.......TWICE. At least he's out there learning. Meanwhile, your yacking away about something you obviously know nothing about.

    • @ianbrown9082
      @ianbrown9082 Před 6 lety +1

      Using heal-and-toe downshifts would help enormously, stopping you from snatching the rear tyres on the downshifts which'll have you going backwards as well. I've never driven an Atom but the pedals should be ideal for heal-and-toe. I used this technique every day to work so it became second nature when I jumped into the race car.
      BTW...your driving's great, so ignore the retards who say otherwise!

  • @kaydnburns5935
    @kaydnburns5935 Před 8 lety +2

    Ariel atom is a rear wheel drive car, so you could have easily drifted that corner and saved it, I've drifted a corner before and somewhat saved it, however I ended up letting off the gas too soon and the wheels grabbed hard and I spun out anyways. With a little practice though, those kind of spin outs are easily recoverable

      He was at speed in the corner and then full throttle for 8 sec and then was breaking a bit down before sliding of the track..
      The dirt is heavy and can stop a car pretty fast. Not saying he is driving 100+ mph. But its around that number.

    Two things: The steering gain of the car is too low at the limit: Change the rack or the column joints to 'quicken' it up after 45 degrees of SW angle. The car becomes an understeering pig after 2-3 laps. You need to reconfigure the load transfer or find a better (bigger) set of tires. Otherwise it looks like its really just a fun-run car on this track. Same comments for the 'Ring play(s).

      +Snake2303 Exelent !!! you are the first one to notice that. Normally I run that corner on the 5th gear. You see that on the lap before. It was a stupid test to see if I could run the corner on 6th gear.

      scarface75swe I notice that the car acts like a old formula one car if you go into a very high gear or a very low gear the rear tires will have a different speed than the front tires so It causes the car to spun out but really nice driving the car looks fun.

    I want to say that driver fatigue caused this spin. That and the car was generating a fair amount of oversteer coming out of every corner.

    Weight transfer to the front wheels upon breaking while the turning rear became too light and stepped out.
    You should have started to brake hard before you turned your steering on the straight part. I think please someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @scarface75swe
      @scarface75swe  Před 7 lety +1

      yes that´s right. if you compare the first lap, I shift down to the 5th gear and touched the brake before the corner as usual do. At the second lap (when I go off) I test to go through the corner at 6th gear (I suspected it would go bad).
      The bottom line was that I had too much speed into the corner and could not go on enough throttle, then I realized that it would not go and lift the throttle and brakes a little and then I lift the rear end and loose control.

    • @gltr4129
      @gltr4129 Před 7 lety

      Very interesting. So this was caused by too much entrance speed and lift-throttle/braking during the turn? Also, was there any way to have salvaged the drift by down shifting and applying more gas, to prevent a spin and regain traction?

    Right on the raged edge at the end there after the overtake. Heck he got past the other car. He just had to carry on as before the overtake. I'm thinking he knows he got untidy, and that it was going to end in tears. Still beautiful to see the pre crash footage. Wonderful control and every inch of track used. I thought it was going off at just about every corner!

  • @denu1879
    @denu1879 Před rokem

    Definitely an issue with stability management, throughout the entire video you could see the back end of the Atom swinging out round corners. The car needs way more rear downforce for cornering at those speeds, you wouldn't even make it round the Nürburgring with that.

  • @15209091

    the way i see it... at that speed the car wanted to oversteer at 2:12 which meant that the driver should of applied pressure on the throttle while in a lower gear as he was counter steering. then he should of actually geared down before the turn, anticipating this type of behavior from the vehicle at that speed?

  • @ZpGKillua
    @ZpGKillua Před 8 lety

    correct me if im wrong, first spin is lift off oversteer, got off brakes at ur turn in point while theres still too much speed for turn in. 2nd spin just too much throttle at track out and lite up the rear tires, previous few laps u were already counter steering a bit. at least u r confident. Good fun.
