Such an amazing story, of your grandfather finding his father! You mentioned they were interviewed on TV; is there a recording of it available? If it is on youtube (or if you can post it there), I would love to watch it if you can provide the link.
Icelanders were founded by Norwegian vikings but they also have genes from British/Irish and Danish in them too.
Really enjoyed this video. So so interesting
Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️
My old family names were like that, too, up until my great grandparents moved to the US from Norway.
Oddly enough, the family name wasn't Norwegian at all. I've heard two different explanations:
1) When they entered the US, an immigration official didn't understand the last name and so gave them a new last name.
2) My great grandparents wanted to blend in better with the new country and so they took an American name.
I have no idea which it was.
I love that you guys kept that tradition.
Yes that Food Walk is awesome! Dagur was my guide and fabulous! Stay awesome Dagur!
Thank you for the explanation. I have been looking into my Icelandic roots, and my great-grandfather didn't have the same name as a great aunt. Similar, though. Great grandfather ended in son and great aunt in dottir.
The Food Walk is Great! Everyone should do it!!!
Great story ! You have a hero in your family!
