In this episode we look into detail at the various 2d blue variations and what to look out for. I also give my opinion on the best way to collect and display early Victorian GB stamps.
Love the 2 p blues !
Another great overview of Victorian stamps, Pete, with just the right amount of detail.
Growing up in the 1960s, we listened to recordings by Flanders and Swan, one of which was a funny rendition of a new national anthem for England. In the intro to the song, Michael Flanders talks about how every stamp collector knows there are two types of stamps: "British" and "Foreign".
In just the same way in your videos you have shown that for the serious collector there are just two types of Victorian stamps: the 1d, and then all of the others 😂😂😂😂😂
I picked up my stamp album, last having looked at it, 45 years ago. Your video is really informative and have started making me look for those plate numbers! I look forward to watching your other videos. Thank you!
Thanks for your comments. Glad to hear you are getting back into the hobby. Good luck going forward.
Excellent podcast I really am enjoying your informative shows
Thank you for your vid, learnt a lot !
Glad you enjoyed it.
Hi Pete another great video for the beginner i have leant a great deal from this overview.
You have a great way of explaining things in a very easy to understand way.
Whats next an overview of edward viii stamps, hint hint.
Best wishes
Matt
Thanks for your kind words, I have already done one about Edwards VII and Edward VIII although the Edward VII one was more about De La Rue than distinguishing the stamps, which I still find difficult.
Only discovered your content today, but I've binged your episodes! I'm UK based, collect GB stamps of all reigns, and an avid Machin collector with a huge collection. Really interesting content, love the passion that I share with you. Please carry on and give us more.
Glad you like them!
Excellent video. I've been collecting the various plate numbers of the early Victorian stamps and found this to be very useful video. I've collated all mine in date order and like to idea of having them in value order. It will take me a while to reorganize them but I think it will improve the general presentation of them. Great video and I will look at some of the other videos you've done as I've only just found you!!!
Glad you enjoyed the video. Good luck with your reorganising.
Awesome! What is the rarest plate in the 2 Penny Blue?
Plate 2
You've got the year wrong for the 2d blues at 8.20, but only by 100 years. Should be 1858 I think.
Well spotted. I've looked at that page loads of times and never noticed before 😀. As you say, it's only 100 years out
