  • The Sundowners were a music group from Lake George, New York. The original line-up included Bobby Dick (bass & vocals), Dominick DeMieri (guitar & vocals), Eddie Placidi (guitar & vocals), Eddie Brick (lead vocals), and Kerim "Kim" Capli (drums).They opened for the Monkees famous tour in 67 with Jimi Hendrix. The lackluster sales doomed this single but it makes a good vehicle for Jenni. Enjoy!

      +GUITARARENA Thanks what a great song.Love the blond on the video. The essence of 60s innocence and love. An ideal to pursue. Innocence and love, not the young blond LOL, I'm 59 in a week! Seriously, this song and others like it, plus Motown, with its sincere songs of everyday life and love, made me the black hippie revolutionary anarchist-minded freak that I am. Creativity, love and free spiritedness, that's how I roll, and happily. Thanks again. This song puts one is place of child-like joy! Congrats, man. What a contribution. Peace, love and Soul.

    We went to the Monkees concert that year in St. Paul where the Sundowners and Lynne Randell opened for them. I'll never ever forget hearing Sundowners, who I had never heard of, play this and having it resonate deeply within. Beautiful! I tried to find it on a 45 but was unsuccessful. I was fortunate to remember the musical parts, and enjoyed what I remembered until I found the recording years later. Sundowners were very gifted. They never really got the recognition they deserved. I'll always consider this to be one of my favorites during the 60s. Those were the best days. The kids today with their technology are missing out on so much. Creativity, laughter, and dreaming were important to us and evidenced in the music we hear from that time. It's not visible in today's youth. It's tragic how kids have lost out. We need to return to what we had back then and help youth tap into that dreaming and creativity.

      @DougCeleste Před 8 lety +1

      +archie977 Thank you so much for your very kind words! Much appreciated!! I was VERY touched by Walter's post and from what he said, he and his true love, Barbara Rose, shared so MUCH love in the short time together in this life and all couples should be blessed like that. And I also know what real grief is with the loss of loved ones and the deeper the love, the deeper the pain. And while Walter had to deal with so much pain, the main thing he believes is that the love that he and Barbara Rose shared will never die!! And all this reminds me of a quote from Thomas Bailey Allsworth: 'What is lovely never dies, But passes into another loveliness.' And it is wonderful that this Sundowners' VERY underrated song gave him all these powerful feelings of love and memories to forever cherish and that is what is so great about this song for him and for all of us!

    I know, I remember. I almost completed two tours in Vietnam, '68 - '70 and also experienced the animosity from those not fit to wipe the boots of men returning from Southeast Asia.
    My point was different and was more on the level of being young and having a life in front of you in an America that was decidedly better than the one we have right now. We were more 'grown up' and had a better sense of right and wrong in spite of what was going on around us. It was a stronger society with backbone.

    I lived through the '60s & was not priveleged. But the troublesome events you outlined were made tolerable by the wonderful music of that era. The music was more than a palliative for our pain, it was an escape from our sorrows, our anger, our despair. It also gave voice to our joy. The music was, ultimately, an escape from the troubles of that time. And, yes, there were many joyful moments during that era and listening to that music takes me there...to a place far away from today's sorrow.

    I have to admit that I was unaware how in vogue the Sundowners' type of easy listening was in their day. Everyone who wanted to get into music had to do some kind of thing that felt like this. And it was valid, justified and long-lasting. Nobody but a few die-hards still wants to hear Sugar Hill Gang nor MC Hammer, nor will Nirvana and Green Day be widely tolerable in 40 more years, but this stuff is legend, and will still be praised and sought after.

    One of the band members played as a dj at my high school 50th reunion in 1968. They started out as a house band in Lake George, NY. This was a local hit in the Schenectady NY area in 1967. Talking to the dj he told me the sundowners opened at a concert in Long Island NY for Jimi Hendrix and the Monkees. Because the crowd was mostly trendy bopper Jimi walked off the stage half way thru his set and went to England. And as they say the rest is history

    I would target live in the 70's,80's and early to mid 90's than to live in this time now.Life was so simple and easy.I love music like this real smooth and mellow.

    This wonderful song sounds so much like the Association!!! Should have been a much bigger hit than it was but alas, the music scene was rapidly changing in 1967 and the radio stations were playing a lot more of the psychedelic music that was becoming more and more popular at that time. Anyhow, thanks for sharing this gem!!!

    • @dampergoldenrod4156
      @dampergoldenrod4156 Před 8 lety +2

      +Doug Celeste But since the 1980s retro 60s stations have been playing nothing but Motown and ignoring polished music like this and the psychedelic and surf music.

      +Davin Dx Great points and nearly all oldies stations----including the national shows----play the same songs over and over and that has been my biggest gripe with them since they are so boring to listen to. Scott Shannon and Dick Bartley's national shows are prime examples. Very little doo-wop, those rare classics, and other great forgotten oldies and they concentrate way too much on the overall boring 70's and 80's music. But if you want to find a REAL oldies station, try KDSK.com!!! Rock on!!

      Doug Celeste Live365.com just shut down in 2016 if you were not listening to it the last 10-15 years you missed the 2nd best thing on the internet after CZcams. I like this song and have come to hate Motown because all all the politically correct trash that results in good music like this never being heard anywhere. 60s retro radio has been around since the early 1980s yet I never heard so much good 60s music.

    • @DougCeleste
      @DougCeleste Před 8 lety +1

      +Davin Dx Thanks for your comments! I never heard of Live365.com and I guess it is no longer available online from what you are saying and that is too bad. But I LOVE KDSK.com online and on the radio here in New Mexico where I live. And I agree with your points about the overall VERY boring format of oldies stations in this country. They play the same songs over and over and do not touch the rarities and doo-wop much. Several years ago, I had an online disgreement with Scott Shannon about his oldies show and I sure did NOT like his arrogant attitude. And he was wrong when he said that the oldies stations that play the rarities do not last since KDSK has been around already for about 17 years but not sure why Live365 went offline. Too bad but in general, oldies stations have not touched songs like this GREAT one by the Sundowners on its airwaves and listeners have missed out for years on wonderful songs that never get played.

    @GUITARARENA *Thanks so much for this song.* It has *literally* been my favorite song of all time. Not kidding. A local band called 'The Revised Edition' in my hometown in upstate NY used to play it at high school dances.. and I just loved it but had never heard of 'The Sundowners'. This was back about 1971-72. So I went to the nearest record store called 'The Record Rack' in Glens Falls, NY about 15 miles away and asked the helpful man in the store.. did they have an album by Captain Nemo and the Sundowners? (I thought for sure I'd stumped him!) He smiled wryly. Turns out I was talking to Eddie Placidi!! I ended up taking bass lessons from him. Always You. *Still the best song of all time.*

      Not surprising you didn't remember this tune; that year was one of the greatest in pop music history, so it was buried under the Beatles, Stones, Doors, 5th dimension, Motown, etc. etc.
