There are over 3,000 known knots. I made a list of what I feel are the 10 most useful knots the average person should know. Whether you're an avid outdoors person, a construction worker, or just a DIYer, I think you will get a lot of use out of these 10 knots. I also threw in a couple of bonus knots and variants of some of the listed knots.

I have used the truckers knot many times. So that trick of adding another loop. Is a great addition. Because no one likes seeing a loaded truck with the load slopping around.
Thanks for a informative video.

I’d love to see examples of these knots in action so we can know what knot to use in which situations. This is the best tying video I’ve seen because you explain and demonstrate so well. I’ve saved this video to my favorites.
That’s a good idea, I will try to add something.
Yeh me also very impress with that.
I agree the video was really good. The knots were shown in a way that was easy to understand (I've seen videos where they do it so quickly I feel like I've watched a magic trick instead of learnt how to tie a knot). I've used some of those notes but it would be useful to be told where each knot is typically/ often used. I think it will make the knot more relevant and make me remember it as a result.
Overhand knot for tying your shoes. Half hitch for tying off the end of a knot. Sheet bend for tying a lighter rope to a heavier rope, useful for throwing over branches. Slipknot for throwing up onto a tree and pulling it over. Marline spike hitch for when youre tying a bowline 😂. Bowline can be tied to anything and never slip. Alpine Butterfly Loop is useful if you want to hang things from line and don't want to have to tie the bowline with a long working end. Clove hitch is awesome for starting lashings or tying down your horse for a sec. Truckers hitch to tie down gear tightly; Bowline one end of the rope, wrap around the gear, and add a truckers hitch so it stays snug in the bed of your truck.
Yeah! The Slipknot looks kinda Useful
Remember, the most important step in securing any load is: tap the load or lines and recite the incantation "that is not going anywhere". I'm glad you included that when demonstrating the automatic trucker's hitch. Nicely done!
Throwing in the incantation makes it true Merlinspike work.
I've worked with ropes and lines etc for decades and watch videos to refresh my memory. Yours is hand down one of the best sir!!!!!
I appreciate that very much, thank you.
That last process in creating the automatic truckers hitch was so mechanically beautiful.
I am 65 years old and to this day, I still know most of these knots. I learned them back in the day when I was a 13 year old in the Boy Scouts. And it amazes me to this day that I still remember them. And I have used them for most of my life. I am so happy I spent my five years in the Boy Scouts.
boy scouts today is not like it used to be.
@@musk-eteer9898 I know, what a shame. Now the boys get to learn some knitting,
Knocked it out of the park, man. No frills, a little history, and a clean index of terms and physics-driven explanations. I’m a first year climber, and now I understand the knots I use much better, from foundation up. Right on
All these knots are great, but that automatic trucker's hitch blew my mind. That's freaking awesome.
This is GOLD!
For outdoorsman stuff, a decade in the Army, and decades running a farm, the bowline, reef (square), and fisherman's knots, and the taut line hitch ... have been my go-to knots. I always tell folks, half-jokingly, that if I had to pick one, it would be the tautline. You can adapt it for so many purposes.
But now you give me the automatic grip (how did I never figure that one out on my own!?!) Brilliant! And I will make time to learn that trucker's hitch. So useful.
Anyway. Thank you for this.
Worth useful in our everyday life.
I've probably watched your top hitches video 20 times by now, I can see I'll be doing the same with this one. By far the best and most useful knot and hitch learning resource I've seen yet. Great stuff thank you!
Thank you sir.
Thank you for this tutorial! I have never been able to use twine on presents and I just did it now after watching you.😊
I've been learning and practicing a bunch of knots lately and this video is terrific - probably the easiest one to follow that I've watched and very clear demonstrations. The spar hitch was new to me and I really like it, will probably start using that in place of clove hitch for most applications. The adjustable grip hitch is sort of new to me also, much easier to tie than a taut line hitch, though it seems not quite as tight to the working end of the rope and slips easily if not dressed and tightened up well.
Ben, thank for your amazing automatic trucker's hitch, big big useful. Happy to learn form you.
This is the best yet. Slow enough to follow along first time round, and it uses both visual and words. I have learnt about myself that I am not so much a visual learner, but language and word-based explanations work best for me.
Thank you for this.
Best knot video in a long time.
Thank you
One of the best knot tying videos out there.

Used the truckers hitch for years, now I will adapt to your automatic truckers hitch. Thanks
Thank you for showing how to tie the knots and also showing applications of the knots. Much appreciated!

Spot on
The video I didn't know I needed but I'm 100% glad I watched it. Very clear/useful
Thank you, great compliment!
One of the best knot vidjas out there. But nobody does trucker hitch by throwing loose end over hand and make loop out of the work, cinched with double half hitch. No slip knot
Thank you so much. This video is nicely done, very well explained and very useful.
Real nice explanation! Makes it easy to learn :)
Thx!
So useful. Thanks, man. 👌
Best video for knots. Easy to understand and easy to see. Thanks.🎉
Great video. Very informative.
I’ve used the trick with the truckers hitch to autolock without running back through the anchor, just going through the loop again and keeping the second line wrapped under the first to lock when pulled. worked great for me held the tension fine. I’m sure there are pros and cons to both but now I know another way too.
Yeah, I knew that version too. This one looks to bind up a bit more securely.
That was pretty cool
good one! very easy to understand. thanks
Very interesting and helpful Thanks for sharing.

Very well done. Thanks for some methods I haven’t seen before.

Absolutely amazing video!! I’ve been using these knots for nearly twenty years on occasions and always forget how to do them. Your instructions are so much better and clearer than i was ever shown. Saving this video for future reference 🤣🤣👍🏼👍🏼 thank you
Glad you liked it, thanks for taking the time to watch.
I am in the same situation as you, I've been using most of these knots for work and adventures, like camping and fishing for most of my life. I learned them as a boy scout and from my father as a kid. I remember how to tie most, but once in awhile I will forget and have to go to a book or CZcams for reference. I used to watch the videos Corporals Corner did on knots, he does a good job too. But this guy really does an excellent job showing these knots! I also saved this video for reference. He will be my go to reference CZcams channel from here on out!!😁👍👍
I've watched many knot tying videos, this is by far the best, Thank You..
