- Hey! I absolutely loved this album, and of course decided to make some content out of it. This is the best line of every The Maybe Man song. I listed the reasons for picking each line below.
Maybe Man: I enjoyed Jack's emotion in this line, and boy I love some religious talk.
Touchy Feely Fool: Once again, I enjoyed Jack's emotion in this part a lot. Some of the best parts of this album are Jack's angrier moments. The rhyming here and overall meaning is also fantastic.
Yes I'm A Mess: Not much to say, I just enjoy the rhyming and feel it rolls of the tongue very well. This line also displays the story of the song.
The Dumb Song: This line is very relatable to me and is a very clever line too.
Inertia: This was the hardest one for me to pick. This song is absolutely amazing. I decided to pick the start of the chorus though because it just makes me wanna dance.
Turning Out Pt. iii: just a relatable, clever line. Good job Ryan.
Hole In The Bottom Of My Brain: Very catchy and has a kinda cheeky undertone (at least that's how I interpret it idek)
The DJ Is Crying For Help: Genius line.
I Won't: The "But I digress" line just before the big explosion of the chorus is so unbelievably catchy.
Steve's Going To London: The funniest line in the whole album for me. Especially considering us fans were overanalysing who Steve was and why he's going to London. There is literally no meaning to the chorus!
God Is Really Real: This line hits very hard and is very relatable. You always hear stories of terrible things happening to other people but never imagine they will actually happen to you.
2085: The loneliness, sadness, and desperateness in Jack's voice here is equally depressing as it is amazing.

"I'm half yours" kinda suggesting he doesn't have his heart all the way in the relationship sometimes, most likely due to his fear of commitment and the long-term of a relationship alluded to in the verse before. "You're all mine" in my mind means that he feels his partner always gives their all and is committed to the long term of the relationship. That's how I see it at least, I feel it makes the most sense to me in the context of the rest of the song

This AJR album seems to be a lot about regret and the wish that things could be different but there not. Maybe Man is a good one because he is wishing to be so many things except for himself, and yes I’m a mess is accepting that fact with the line “why should I fix the stuff I’ve done when I just can pack my stuff and run?” AJR also said this album was based around the song god is really real which makes a lot of sense since it fits with the themes of the other songs as he’s wishing his dad would get out of bed but sadly it doesn’t work out that way, the hope that things could be different and struggling to accept reality.

Really cool ideas! In 2085, I think Jack may actually be referring to himself. He is so old where himself is all that he has got. This idea is supported a few lines later when he says "I've got to get better I'm all that I've got".

Super good list, I agree with everything!! Only difference is that for Intertia, I really like the line "I said I'd start working out, but I'm fucking hungry and screw you I'm trying." I just feel a lot of emotion in that line and I honestly relate to it in a lot of ways.

Honestly, i listened to the album once and i was like "oh my gosh touchy feely fool is the best!!" then after like 3 more listens i was like "wait... INERTIA."

As someone who needed to hear this for so long, the almost quiet, talking-to-a-young-child way they say it had me in tears.

These two lines are so raw and emotional and hit me like a truck every time. The second part is almost universal, and it’s a message I’ve needed to hear for a while.

He's an incredibly skilled rapper, and he covers very serious issues (like racism and police brutality) with tact and beautiful artistry, instead of just doing the stereotypical "money, drugs, guns women" that a lot of his peers do. he's super creative, and he consistently makes the best rap music of anybody (maybe even just the best music), and just about every music critic agrees. that's why he's the perfect person to make literally any other artist feel inadequate xD

this is literally just what you put, but with the line i needed to hear like four years ago. i was going through a rough phase, my best friend suddenly started hating me and i had a good half year of being depressed. but i just know i would've loved that song for this line, though of course i still absolutely adore it, but it would've been so much more special to me four years ago.

honestly, just such a great bookend to the turning out trilogy. when i first heard it, i didn't feel like it quite lived up to the amazing atmospheres of it's predecessors, but it's really grown on me, i just think it fits in so well with the two others, and it gives us a great, hopeful ending to the trilogy.

alright, listen. i just vibe with sadness ok, i'm *FINE*. i really don't know for this one though, it's just that vibe of the line that's amazing.

this can (obviously) be interchanged with "waitin' for the beat to drop", i just picked one from the genius lyrics.
anyway, i really relate to the feeling alone on this one, i get that so much, and i also really like how these couple lines near the end sound like sad screaming, which also just adds to it.

it's so long that i won't but it here, but all of it.

i just really like the music for it. like, that goes hard and i can kind of relate to the struggle, though more with other creative outlets like video making and stuff. i personally have the issue that i can't figure out my style. like, what video i wanna make, what makes sense for me? i struggle a lot with that, so the struggle to make something is something i vibe with.
god is really real:
i have two choices for this one, actually.
first off, the same one as you, for the exact same reasons.
secondly:
"God is really real when you really, really need Him
Karma just appears when you suddenly believe it"
now, i'm an atheist myself, which i think really speaks to how good this line is. while i don't think it will ever apply to me, the idea that you can need to believe something so much that it just *has* to exist, because everything is so bad, you just need to believe that there is some force out there that will make it better, i really like that idea.
2085:
now, this is gonna sound crazy. you *toootally* won't be able to figure out what it is.
verses 5, 6 and 7.
verse 5 is the one i picked for maybe man, 6 and 7 are the ones following it up, ending in "maybe that's who the hell i am", and its probably for the same reasons as i picked verse 12 in maybe man.
anyway, that's my list. i really love this album, it's probably my favorite ajr album, the highs are just higher than the other albums, and the lows are just as high as the others, if not higher.
I respect these choices a lot. The majority of these are my second place pick, and for the same reasons as you. And yeah, I wouldn't have cut off TFF and Inertia so early, but I didn't want to go too far into the territory of "the best paragraph of every TMM song".

I prefer the line about the news because it’s very relatable to me and my family, and I think it’s a clever line. “You should not have done that” is up there though!
