- We thought that the Pelion in Greece would be the perfect place for a family adventure... What a mistake! I mean... We actually had some adventures but not in the way we thought.
Let's start with the beginning! After some time in the mountains, we headed to the Aegian Sea coast and decided to visit at least one Greek island. Skopelos it would be! Well guys, it felt so good to experience what we could call holidays! The island is known to be very green, in opposition to most of the others that are very rocky. We've been from cove to cove and adopted the Greek lifestyle!
Leaving Skopelos, we reached the Pelion peninsula. in Platanias and started our way heading North, along the East coast. After one week, we met Marie's family in Xania. We tryed to climb on Mount Pelion but there's a military base up there and they would not let us cross. Then we followed the O2 Trail and here started the troubles. The hiking culture in Greece isn't strong and the trails are disappearing as nobody uses them. After the village of Pouri... Actually look at the video, it's all in it!
After this nightmare, our family went back to Paris and we headed to the Pierian mountains where we met Paris, an amazing refuge keeper. He saved the impression of our last days in Greece with his passion and his kindness.

As someone who lives in the region, I am really sorry about all these troubles that you had here and I hope to visit Pelion mountain again and enjoy this magnificent place.
It's a beautiful place but it seems that almost nobody hikes there and in Greece in general... It's a pity 😭
@@FurtherStories Oh they do. It's far from the national pastime but many do. But usually not in the height of summer and mostly in an organised manner using good maps or guides. Not in a happy-go-lucky way.. Not all paths are well maintained as there are many thousands of kilometres of them. Not all of them are used by hikers. Many of them are left unmaintained since they used to serve communication between villages by pack animals for which there's no need anymore. Spring and fall are the main hiking seasons but Winter as well for more hard core stuff. Every summer Greek rescue services are called to save lots of stranded foreign hikers at great expense. Sadly a few of them do not make it... There are probably more rescue operations conducted in Summer than during the hiking and mountaineering seasons.. Falls and heatstroke are the most common causes of deaths. You have been lucky. Do proper research next time. For example, trying to cross the Albanian-Greek border illegally as if you were crossing from Belgium to France shows you had not done proper research. Drug and people smuggling is rampant over there. Hiking over Pindus just by yourselves without anybody knowing about it could have ended in disaster. Not knowing when refuges are open and not knowing that for many you can get the keys for from a nearby village so you can stay and self cater is another example of not having done your proper homework. Most refuges are run by the local mountaineering clubs and they are open mainly in the hiking and mountaineering season Spring, Fall and for the mountaineering ones Winter.

Wahou beaucoup de courage et d'émotions dans cette vidéo ! Bravo à vous tous pour votre mental. Il m'est arrivé de rester coincée en montagne/canyon sans eau une nuit mais heureusement nous étions quand même repérés par les secours qui nous ont indiqué vers où nous diriger le lendemain pour nous en sortir. C'est un moment difficile, mais qui ressert les liens d'un groupe indéniablement ! Bonne continuation, Célia

Merci pour le partage, ça fait toujours du bien une piqûre de rappel des imprévus qui peuvent arriver dans la nature. Avec le recul est-ce que vous pensez que vous auriez pu faire qqc différemment pour éviter ou atténuer cette situation ?

Ouais question émotions ils ont étés servi ! Et oui les imprévus, le sens du groupe, les capacités de chacun qu'il faut savoir évaluer. Je sais qu'avec les autres invités j'ai souvent tendance à être un peu exigeant sur le rythme de marche etc... La avec la famille c'est un peu différent mais il faut vraiment arriver à comprendre un peu tout ça si on veux une cohésion de groupe.
Hmmm et pour les conseils... Ne pas se fier à l'eau sur la côte sauf si on a le temps de jouer les Robinson et de récupérer l'eau d'évaporation. Si le pays où tu marche n'entretiens pas ses sentiers, la machette n'est pas un objet de luxe mais une nécessité. Et puis essayer de bien briefé les gens avec qui tu marche pour ne pas qu'ils te fassent la tronche pendant une semaine
