- I built £1150 AMD MATX Gaming PC and i don't like it and it won't sell
This PC is pretty powerful with a Ryzen 7 7700 and a RX6800 16GB But it still cost a LOT of money and I very much doubt I will be able to sell it on easily, Even making a loss.
The PC market is really struggling right now, And so is the economy in general.
So has the era of £1000+ desktop pcs come to a turning point?
I did get some great deals like the Ryzen 7700 from Ali Express for under £150!
Even with that being very close to half the normal retail price, it still doesn't give me much flexibility when trying to sell this on to make way for new projects.
This all started out as a review video for the Tecware VXN and it has cost me a small fortune!

Times are hard for PC flippers ATM, I'm struggling too, even with budget ones!
yeah it is getting tough all round. Hopefully the back to school season will let things pick up again
Hi, Mike. Nice looking PC. I wanted something to play games on while I'm stuck downstairs on the recliner. A friend gave me his old junk parts after I upgraded his PC. Said junk parts include a Gigabyte Arous Z390, an i7 9700K, a Sapphire RX 570, and 16GB DDR4 3600 CL 16 RAM. So I threw them into a Lian Li Evo case, plopped in a 2TB m.2 and it's running quite well. At least I'm not bored to death. Cheers!
yeah the 9700k is still pretty decent given its age
The used/home build market is particularly tough at the moment. I think if people want to spend £1200 they would prefer to buy something with warranty, so I don't think there's as much demand for high end systems in this space. Most buys don't factor in the cost of a decent motherboard, cooler, case, fans, or psu. PSU and storage costs are particularly troublesome to keep costs down. Also this time of year PC sales are always slow with the warmer weather. These points are one side of the issue, the other is you've hardly tried to keep costs down on the build - £75 on fans? That could've easily been £45, the fan controller is extra cost which isn't needed the fans could easily daisy chain in sets of 3 + 2. We all know AMD GPU's attract less interest on the used market, so that's also going to work against you. Given you can get 3080's on gpused.co.uk for about £380-400 in excellent contion, that might have been a better choice to sell the build.
Personally I'm just building budget units with 8th gen / Ryzen 1st to 3rd gen CPU, and entry level GPU like 1660 Ti / 2060 or even older for super budget systems, RX580 8Gb / Vega 56 / GTX 1070. If I can put a system together for £200-300 sell price, this isn't something you can buy at Curry's and is a market solely the domain of home builds, ideal for a kids first foray into PC gaming with a 1080p monitor.
all good points and some things in here aren't ideal, but that is what happens when you are tried to get rid of stuff you don't want or need
yeah times are hard right now and pc parts are getting more expensive, even the m.2 drives used in here have gone up 20% since filming! mad world
Wow! You didnt include those lovely fans in price either. Agree for a main pc new build it has to be AM5 but i still feel amd mbs too fragile compared to years of lga intel mbs. Too easy to damage with so many pins. Seriously its not like you been excessive or gone for bling parts yet still 4figs price. I still believe ppl are hesitant of spending as prices of food energy are stupidly high and summer hols due. Hope you find a home for it Mike or perhaps break down and sell separately! Agree too that £6 to £700 sim to ps5 is limit for most ppl but actually out of tune with pc market. Good luck Mike and Kath🐈👍
it might get broken down for parts, i actually need a micro atx motherboard for testing so it won't be wasted, but would like to move this on to get newer things for the channel
Thanks for the great content! I think you had a good observation for those wishing to purchase an older AM4 platform for now and wait a couple of years for an upgrade. My Ryzen 5 5600/RX 6750 XT combo has served me well thus far.
Thanks for watching!
and will be far more..i upgraded to 5800x3d and not looking back..just 265 euro for a same 7600-7700 game level...
Great content, I started watching your videos like almost a week ago, I'm planning to upgrade to AM5 and surprisingly your videos and using the same exact parts in this build give me the assurance I need.
In terms of parts, I wouldn't go with Chinese M.2 Storage I heard many stories about them dying in less than a year and I would swap the air cooler with a liquid AIO 240mm to get the maximum out of the CPU by overclocking all cores to maximum speed it can get to without touching the 90C. I've heard a lot of complaints about the MSI MOBO bios and how slow it is to boot/ post. I would go with any Asrock B650M HDV/M.2 or Pro RS (Preferably).
Other than that, I think it's a good build to last and will serve you well for the next 3-4 years given the fact that AMD still releasing new CPUs for the AM4 platform after all these years.
don't be too hard on the Chinese storage, i have been using various "off brand" drives for about 7 years or more now and the failure rate is exceptionally low.
The problem is the 7700. People see AM5 and just want that 7800x3d without realising the 7700 is a perfectly fine CPU for playing pretty much any and all CPU bound games. I have a 7700x with a 6750xt and at 1080 it will play almost anything with 100+fps max settings and can easily get a good stable 70fps on titles like Starfield at 1440.
People here in the UK are super tight, you put that on FB marketplace for a grand and a lot will ask if you'll take 500 quid kust because its now classed as second hand.
If i had a spare £1,000 I'd even come and collect it to save on postage, but alas I do not.
Awesome PC and best of luck.
The x3d chips are actually not a must. I have one myself and even though it allows your game to run at high frame rates I always find myself capping the frame rate on every single game that i play to save power, eliminate coil whine and lower the temps........ all resulting in a quieter system.
If I had a 7700X i would be over the moon with it. It's a great cpu for any task
thanks for the offer :-)
It is a nice build. I would dump the kewler. To me...if you cannot replace the fan...that would be the first turnoff to me. Other than that, maybe swap out the ram if you have any with RGB? Thanks for sharing Mike and Lady Kath. Modders these days like colorful RGB. Myself included. Take care everyone. Getting closer to the Live Stream on Saturday. Cheers
yeah the cooler is sometihng i considered changing but that adds to the cost more and might not be enough to tempt the buyers
@@mikesunboxing Don't you have an extra cooler that vendors send you to review? And some extra RGB memory also? Just a thought. Cheers
The current meta to PC flipping right now is reverse blade fans, color matched cable extensions and keep it $600 or under.
Yeah that sounds about right
I struggled to sell the PC I built, then a lady came in with bid and paid £415 for it. Took nearly a month to sell..
It will sell, but will take a while.. Then again, I don't like the cooler or motherboard..
By the way I got the TZMRIT 120mm Interstellar V2 reverse fans, 2 x packs of 3 for £23.99 each pack from Amazon.. I did a fan curve on them and they are silent..
nice one tzmrit fans can be hot or miss at times it seems
@@mikesunboxing I think I got lucky then, £48 for 2 sets is an amazing price..
Hey Mike, Great build but if i am in the market for a £1000 PC, i would be looking for a warranty, and with this having parts from Aliexpress, it's a No-Go.
Saying that about ali express parts really makes you look uneducated, where do you think ali express sellers get there stock? Ali express refund and returns policy is better than the majority of UK based sellers.
@mikesunboxing For parts ordered from Aliexpress, dont you have to return those to China and even then after 3 months the support from their customer service is non existent. What am i missing?
If you order from UK retailers like Amazon or Scan etc you can just return the item to them and they sort it out.
Happy to be corrected if thats not the case.
The best luck I've had flipping PCs has been with as many components as possible with strong brand recognition. Intel Core i7/i9 (not necessarily latest generation), NVIDIA RTX (again, not necessarily latest generation), and Corsair AIO/RAM. I assume G.Skill RAM and NZXT AIOs will work too. I'm also assuming you can't go wrong with ASUS ROG. The demographic looking for prebuilts is not the same as the one looking for components. They are not informed to nearly the same level of detail but still want good components. They are looking for bargains, but lucky for you, margins on prebuilts are way higher than components so you can offer them significant savings over retail.
good points there. i need to think differently
Very nice build, but i upgraded to 5800x3d and not looking back..just 265 euro for a same 7600-7700 game level...
Buyers over £1,000 probably want a longer warranty for new/ used parts custom build. Spec wise Mike's PC offers more for gaming Vs Punch Corsair iCUE Gaming PC AMD, OcUK Gaming Khukri - AMD Ryzen 7 7700, Nvidia RTX 4060 Gaming PC PCs.
yeah it is going to but the second hand and enthusiast builds through the blender if these prices continue to increase at the rates they are
I'm excellent at physics, but im googs enough to notice something.
When air does a 90 degrees turn it lost a lot of it pressure.
Try keep the 2 side front intake fans speed higher then other fans.
Most of the money "saved" on an AM4 build is fool's gold these days, as I've found none of the motherboards listed when you sort by cheapest have been made in the last couple of years, won't come with the BIOS for the latest Zen 3 chips, and don't have the USB BIOS Flashback feature until you go up $50 in pricing.
That 7700 on AliXP is a great deal, I've been watching it in USD recently and it shows up for $100 less than regular avenues (Amazon). What you are missing out on here with the 7700 is building a gigantic overkill matrix of cooling around it. The 7700 non-X is extremely power and heat efficient, a downdraft cooler and a couple of 120s to move air in a basic case would handle it just fine. The GPU might punch up the heat a bit, but the 6800 Non-XT is also a great deal right now, they don't push the Non-XT cards to the absolute limit on power draw either.
The parts are good, the case I think is a drawback unless you come across someone with particular interests. I'd fish those fans out of the garbage too, that was a good deal to get 3 x 120mm in with a cheap case.
yeah the case isn't helping here. Be interesting to see if i put the exact same stuff in a ATX case if it would sell
Might be a good idea to lower the price to 990£. Only 10£ less, but a world of difference.
just reduced it to £950 i'll see how that goes
Change the name from AMD MATX TO MAD MATX 😛
Thank you very much for the video 😀
Thanks for the idea!
@@mikesunboxing Came home from work tired. and did read it like that. but anyway i can help. you are welcome 😀
@WilliamAndrewPhilipBodie you work too hard my friend
AM5 just doesn't do it for me right now for my own rig, too pricey and dont see why i should upgrade the 5700x or the 3070 either for at least another year until prices come down. I've stopped filliping PC's as well, just no profit in it right now
yeah it is a really dead market at the moment and getting much more expensive at the same time, seems like they are actively trying to discourage us
Needs white vinyl circles over those fan hubs - or reverse blade fans in those positions
white be swapping those fans out for some ali epxress ones
It looks good to me, are you going to sell it, if so what are you going to ask? I am currently looking for an AM5 pc for my son
currently reduced to £950 as of Friday evening
Don't like the mboard or the case. But the rest of it looks super. Shipping to the Netherlands though would be horribly expensive I guess.
yeah the case is getting a lot of hate sadly
@@mikesunboxing I think that is part of the issue. Those of us who might be interested, want a bigger case and mobo. This is nice and dinky for a family buying a console replacement, but those people will buy something far worse for far more money from a Brand name SI.
I see so much of that on the forums, people not being able to do things with their super new PC, and then getting all defensive when you suggest that they might have made a poor purchase.
Very nice well done Mike,I got ionz dynamic mini about the same,i am using termakright aio 240 because the thermalright Burst assassin 120 6pipes temp went up to 45C even full speed, dunno might was wrong paste, now much better ambient 23c pc 34c no full speed just 50%. my set is msi Pro B650m-B,7600 cpu crucial 5600mhz 16GB,nvidia RTX3060 12GB,all white. Maybe changing the cpu with 7800X3d will be amazing or maybe not coz to small for that power.
very nice!
@@mikesunboxing thanks, the only problem I running is Steam, the app is working but if I install any game it failed to the end and my windows froze totally and I need reinstall windows. Even my bank royal bank calling me to not send any money to this people. That's strange for me. I like racing car game any tips?
Mike, everyone to their own taste. To me, this is not attractive. The gap over the side fans is jarring, as is the misalignment of the CPU cooler and rear fan. The mix of black and white doesn't work. Three fans should be sufficient. I like the cpu/gpa combo but I guess it won't appeal to the majority of of pc gamers at 1080p. Good luck!
thanks and yes i agree, the case is not doing it any favours, which is a common complaint with MATX cases sadly. Back to the drawinf board on this one i think
11:41 - What is the purpose of put 3 fans on top using Air Cooler?
The two fans on top ahead the motherboard is just stolen fresh air before reach the air cooler.
all the fans run very slowly to move a little air, it hasn't negatively effected the CPU cooler as the case is removing its either volume in air every few seconds so the air cooler is in effect getting ambient room temp air into the fin stack
A couple of things are working against you, for one, at this price point everyone expects an aio cpu cooler.
The other issue is the gpu being black in the all white build, I'm pretty sure if you had a nice aio preferably white and a white shrouded gpu you would more or less get what you are asking for the rig.
i will try that theory out with an AIO swap, GPU will be a tougher nut to crack
@@mikesunboxing Yea, I just thought theres an option for the gpu with something like a nice rgb/asrgb bracket to make it pop, and a whole lot easier on the wallet 🙂
rx6600 out performs the 3060 mike , i do think many gamers prefer atx than matx version , i also think not knocking is the cooler it just does not look right and for thoes cpus you need a good air cooler to keep the temps down for example the assissin cooler with 6 pipes
i disagree with the cooler it has done a great job and keeps the CPU nice and cool, that was really why i didn't go with an AIO as it doesn't seem to need one
@@mikesunboxing no need for a AIO a six pipe air cooler are good and there are some good ones out there .
I just feel the one you have on there just looks cheap but overall a nice setup.
In before "Do a giveaway" 😂
Good idea
Cant understand why this isnt shifting....especially when you look at the spec and compare it to whats currently available online at the moment. Just needs more carbon wrap and less RGB, that should shift it. That and autographing it ;-)
to be fair what with not feeling to good, i haven't actually got around to listing it yet :-)
In this upside down world, one might say you've batted 100!! Is MATX more difficult to sell than ATX?
certainly seems to be
That should have read 1000. :-)
We gonna call Nvidia to send you a white GPU 🙌
That would be great
AMD have announced that AM4 has been extended now to 2027, and that date is NOT set in stone. Two new AMD AM4 CPUs are coming out after COMPUTEX Ryzen 5800XT and RX5900XT with better boost clocks. So this is still an option for a build, as most people keep CPUs for three to four years. Yes 9000 CPUs are coming out this year, but until they have been tested independently we have no idea how good they are. I do take a manufacturer stats with a pinch of salt. Along with new cases, CPU coolers, fans, maybe people should hold off on buying anything at the moment. Used PC market prices are all over the place here in the UK, very old CPUs and old GPUs asking insane prices for these systems. Very hard to justify the prices. I build all my own and am an enthusiast, so always looking at PC parts. Will be looking to build a new rig again after all the new parts arrive at our shores.
am4 is by far the cheaper platform and still can pack a punch, time to start looking for good prices on AM4 motherboards i think
I thought that it was AM5 that's extended till 2027, not AM4?
im convinced mike if you switch out the 6800 to a 3060 it'll sell easily.
i will try a 3070 i think but at the moment i still haven't even listed it, i am dreading it
rx 6600 , works with better performance than the 3060 by 40% that would be mad to change it for a 3060.
@XENONEOMORPH1979 it would because it's "nvidia" that's what he's implying
@@babymaker8986 but the rx is better than the 3060 , to be honest both companies make the same card but they made amd with more improvements and software.
@@XENONEOMORPH1979yeah but nvidia and their mindshare will make it a better sell lol.
PC flipping and building is dead right now, even the laptop market is dead . I've been repairing and selling for 20 years but I've never seen it so quiet. The one thing that is fetching good money is broken tech, a broken PS5 is 200-250 while a working one can be picked up for the same money. Too many YT'ers repairing stuff so price goes up!!
yeah it is a sad state and unlikely to imporve until after the election/s UK and US
