- The search for the UK's Eurovision Song Contest entry for 1996 in full. Nicky Campbell introduces the 8 eight acts: Code Red, Esseness, Dan Anderson, Lois, Twin Hazey, Zeitia Massiah and Gina G. The top 4 acts after the voting qualified for the final, held the following week.
(The final, with results and host Terry Wogan, is coming soon). - Zábava
the strange thing is that these entries are more modern than the once in 2000s national selection in uk
That was a pretty great deal for Top of the Pops back in the day - the Great British Song Contest for the Eurovision entries getting their own unique Top of the Pops special!
Wow in 1996 we actually tried to put some effort into the Eurovision entrys! I do like some of the entry's that didn't get the pick.
Song One...Jungle goes to Eurovision. Love it!
Brilliant to be able to rewatch these... no matter how dire some of the songs!
Gina G, Lois, Layla were the best songs.
Wow! This made me smile so much. I was like 10 when this aired and was obsessed with Layla's song and Gina G! Thank you for uploading

@@sheisveryfamous done sweetheart! 😍🥳
Although this is unlikely, this edition could be seen on BBC4 when it gets to the 1996 reruns on TOTP or maybe to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest for 1996.
I was so obsessed with Layla’s track
I found it on a record ….i purchased it ….I didn’t have a record player …still don’t …still have the record though 😂
Just watching Layla on Four in a Bed.
OMG!!!
I was in the crowd that day. They treated us like sheep, herding us around from stage to stage to make it look like the place was packed. Well atleast I saw Gina G in the flesh I guess.
It was always going to be a two horse race between Lois & Gina G as both had very catchy, energetic dance tracks. Sadly Lois's effort would have sounded fresh if it had been released a couple of years prior as the organ sounds were huge between '93 & '95. Gina G's Ooh Aah was just that more current.
Both great tracks though!
Lois' effort could've been a hit in either 1993 or 1994.. when the Radio 1 chart show was hosted by Bruno Brookes.
Lois didn't even make the top 4 so it definitely wasn't in a 2 horse race.
They used to play the Lois track at the old Astoria on a Saturday night.... Why was it never released as a single? The crowd used to love it
@@doggdogg6019 I should have put "for me".
@@stephenemmett9753 he was my favourite Radio One chart show host by far. Always factual and he really did care about the music.
By the mid to late 2000's, the chart show hosts were all talking over the tracks, and were talking about inane things like stuff they'd eaten or the mundane things they had done the day before. I stopped listening to the Top 40 at least 10-12 years ago and haven't actively looked at a single chart for quite possibly 8.
Nice song, wonder what she's up to now?
Gina G follow up albums never happened as she signed a dodge record deal with the record company and the last time I saw her was on baby one more time or reborn in the USA.
Gina G the song was the best choice to be chosen.Jonathan king at the stage of the Eurovision song contest history picked some of the entries. Gina G was bittersweet knowing the songs were picked by a kiddie fiddler.

ok
trying to find a song some dudes at a bar rapping about drinks?
How funny, blimey that's why Eurovision will only ever be seen as a joke.
