Budget CRX K-Swap PART 1

  • Did you like the Budget EG swap? This time we're swapping a K20 into an EF Chassis. The Budget EG K-swap was built for about $3200. Although the 88-91 Civic and CRX chassis requires a few more parts because of differences like cable operated clutch and mechanical VSS, we're hoping to do the swap for a similar amount.
Helping me is VTEC Academy alum Robert Diaz, who also owns Hush Performance. On this swap so we will be using Hush's EF cable to hydro conversion to convert EF's clutch operation over to work with the K-series transmission.
Along with more parts, the CRX has a limited amount of room in the engine bay making it a little tougher to fit. But follow our build and we'll figure out how to get it all to work.
In the first episode we make a parts list and give a general overview of the parts needed for the swap.
Do you have a question or comment? Leave it down below and well do our best to answer it. If you like our videos please subscribe and hit the bell so you get notifications when a new video is available. Better yet, head over the vtecacademy.com and buy a VTEC Academy T-shirt. You'll look great and we appreciate the support.

I got an EF Civic Hatch 1990 Si with a 5 speed transmission with only 135k original miles on the stock D16 engine.
I got it from my best friend that unfortunately commit suicide back in March of 2017. I got the car from his family
after he passed away. He always loved the older Hatchbacks and wanted to swap a K20 into his hatch but never
got around to making it happen. Now that he's no longer alive and I own his car I feel obligated to swap a K20 into
it eventually. I feel like it'll help me find some closure with his passing back in 2017. The bad news is I don't have
much skill/knowledge with working on cars. Huge computer nerd but kind of a weenie when it comes to working
on cars. I can fork out the money to make it happen, but I'm looking for someone who's done this before that could
make it happen for me so long as I bought all the parts and paid the labor for the swap.
If anyone reads this comment and has a shop where they work on Hondas, or have swapped a K-Series engine into
an EF hatch before and you're looking to take on this job and make some $$$ all the while helping me out with my
friends dream of a K20 Civic Hatch.. please reach out to me and drop me your email and I'll get in touch. I live in a
small town in Northern Idaho (about 30 minutes from Spokane Washington) but I'd be willing to travel of course to
    make this happen. Much love!

    @SuperHonkyPodcast Před rokem

Two years ago I left a comment on this video that I also own an EF. I got it from my best friend who died back in 2017.
At the time, I mentioned how at some point I'd love to swap a K engine into it, but I'm not exactly a mechanic nor am I
experienced at all with swaps etc. I just know he bought the car anticipating to one day swap a K20 into it, and now I
feel almost obligated to have that done at some point in his memory. With that said, these days I'm doing much better
off financially. To the point where, I could afford a K20 engine, as well as everything needed to swap this engine into
my EF, but completely CLUELESS on how to do the work myself, or WHO to even reach out to that I could pay to do the
work for me? If anyone has any information on who I can see or where I can go to get this work done, I would be super
thankful! I live in the Pacific Northwest in a small town of Northern Idaho. I'm about 30 minutes away from Spokane
Washington. I'd be willing to drive the car up to 500 - 1000 miles roughly if need be in order to get the work done!
Of course I'd prefer to stay closer to my location if possible, but I'm open to practically ANYTHING to make this happen.

Can you make a video showing the headache to actually have a k swapped crx and have it done legally in the state of CA?

Abel guy I’m pretty sure you need to have a best friend who’s in the system to get a k20 88-91 crx bar’d... that engine is too new for that chassis and here in Cali it’s been hell for some people I know. Your best bet would be a built h-series and swap it every 2yrs when smog comes around. H is a drop in swap, where once you go k, no coming back.

At some point we will try to do a CARB legal build. I need to figure out some thing and find a connection over there as well.

The K20 engine will fit in the 1984-1987 Civic Look for a future project car with that engine.
