Me my dad and my friend chased the train that day, when it got past chicamuga we turned around and went back to Chattanooga to see tag 80. Can't believe we missed this.
every challenge in life becomes a history lesson. these fantastic beasts founded America and helped it grow into what it is today, it's a shame the rail network doesn't receive the love and honor it deserves.
Wait... THAT was the same locomotive in Irondale and Chattanooga?! WHOA DUDE!! FASCINATING! THANKS!! Real nice sorry about it derailing, but it did get back on the tracks really fascinating I really like SR No. 630 very nice steam locomotive. Great video. Thanks.
Boy do I feel bad for the guys who had guys who had to deal with the first railroad derailments. Those guy porubbly had no idea how to fix the train and had no special tools to help them!
First railroad trains were extremely small compared to todays trains and a group of men could easily re-rail the train. As the trains got bigger is when they installed re-railers on the train or if the de-rail was bad enough they'd use steam powered cranes.
The one major advantage steam engines have over diesels was that lead truck. It acted like an early warning system to a derailment as it was the first to alert and to stop the train. IN model railroading, we pick it up simply and re-rail it. Hmmm....? Maybe the model railroad community should rethink how we do things hahahahaha.
No fancy, expensive cranes and million dollar speciality crews. Just good old fashioned American know-how and a whole batch of common sense. Thank you!
Wow, she is 113 years old?! Wow fascinating happy birthday to her with the southern railway. Very good and really fascinating take good care of her plz. Thanks.
Nice Work to the Helpers! That Locomotive is heavier that our o es and our Train Company dont try to get the Train back on after an small Accident with no damage.
Great video. I'm surprised how few people are standing around the table at the end. When I rode that trip in 2016, there were lots of people standing around taking photos!
Well done video! Thank you for sharing it. Another nice view would have been with camera on the railhead. Surprised they did not immediately get it railed. No way of anchoring the rerailer? Wonder if anyone caught the actual derailment on video? How far did the locomotive travel, derailed?
Nothing can scrap this 113 yr old train back in his old days We Probably can’t see the emotions on the steam locomotive But we can tell it was happy to see the ppl getting him back on the track “Awdry smiled to see this beautiful train back on the rails” “630 smiled back to Awdry and going back to her shed to see the controller”
the opening Shot is spectacular! Its Good that they got it back on the Rails! What are the Chances of an Excursion Train derailing? Anyway, Nice Job Man! 👍👍👍
Her whistle is amazing! This is my next favorite steam locomotive.
Same
I thought you were a girl because of the cover
They showed a simple and easy method on their duty, it a interesting video clip.
You know, a derailment being an incident with only minor consequences is like the absolute best possible scenario for a derailment.
I love the little victory toot at 1:57
It's got such a haunting whistle, love it. So glad they, managed to get her back on track.
Her whistle is a beauty
It’s a Southern Railway tuned transitional-style Crosby 3 chime.
Me my dad and my friend chased the train that day, when it got past chicamuga we turned around and went back to Chattanooga to see tag 80. Can't believe we missed this.
It was pretty interesting. But it took a really long time for them to get it back on the track.

What a beautiful looking front set of wheels. Damn!

@@lorxengxiong oh... um... didnt see you there nvm :)
These whistles hav different sounds to them.
It's a Crosby 6in 3 chime!
I never knew something so simple could get the train back on the track. I learn something new every day.
Depends on the derailing lol
Me and southern railroad 630 know each other for a long time since we first met
I’m glad Southern 630’s Front Wheel is Back on the Rails!
That whistle at the end she be happy
Look at my comment fellow train friend ;3

If this was LEGO we would’ve fixed this in like 3 seconds

@@thetransportationguy7930 ik im joking bruh
It even happens today in the diesel era, and the re-railing procedures are exactly the same.
0:08 how bold of you to assume I can see.
Lol

Oof
im amazed at the amount of control the steam engine has to move in such small increments given the push-rod drive gearing
It's amazing how well old engineering still works.

Great vid, fascinating to see how you rerail a locomotive.
And steam is a piece of art

How far did the locomotive travel, derailed?
Thanks for watching! I think the locomotive only traveled around 10-20ft after it derailed.
I like how every time the train failed to rerail the crowd just went "awwww" in disappointment but they cheared at the success at rerailment.
the rerail frog was not anchored down that is why the wheels kicked it out.
probably because it was made in a time where the sleepers were made out of wood, and it would dig into the wood in order to not slide away.
"Who can say where the road goes" or "when you try your best bunt you dont succeed"
Amazing video, like it :)

I always wonder how they do it to the heavily derailed case.

It took a few tries, a lot of muscle, and use of trial and error with wedging pieces but you got her back on the rails. Good work, guys!
I wonder how long this took.
I was on this train, IIRC about an hour and a half.

What do a 6-4-4-6 engine derailed with it's pilot and trailing wheels derailed. What would happen?
