- Follow Paul around Chico as he walks you through the birth of PAUL Component Engineering 30 years ago. We talk to his last boss and his very first customer, and hear stories about building a truck from the junkyard, meth lab raids and what it's like to drill a 3/8" hole in your finger.

Congrats on 30 years (I *love* my Paul Components)
I visited Chico once on Halloween / 2001 while I was living a short stint in Sacramento . When I woke up the next morning my car had no wheels or front seats, so it was a long ride (in a friend’s car) back to Sacramento.
But this video makes me want to go back.
Edit:
Suddenly realizing Paul’s story about needing money in 2001 tracks eerily well with my story.
Incredible components Paul creates! Growing up MTB’ing in the 90’s in Canada anything Paul’s related was hard to find. Spotting a Paul’s derailleur at the races was like spotting a Lamborghini being driven by 2 Playboy centrefold models!
Love it. Factory rat teen and early twenties in and out of college in early 70’s. Operated early CNC machining centers and lathes from Lodge & Shipley. And still have a few of the scars. Klampers on my roadie in ‘23? Could happen.
Very cool! Takes me back to living in the area. Love your parts! Keep it up and congratulations on 30 years.
How did i miss this?? O f'n G
Thank you for the tour and legacy. Love to see quality American-made manufacturing!
The fact that this company is still around and independent is alone a huge deal. I use of a pair of minimotos / love levers and fhubs on my ss build based on a very early santa cruz chameleon frame for 10+ years. My next purchase will be a pair of racer mediums. Or a tall boy. Or clampers. Or...
Interesting to see and learn a bit more about the history of cycling, and the cycling industry, in Chico. Great video!
just another legit AF Paul Comp video flying under the radar. sweet vid. thanks again for answering my questions regarding the Boxcar stem, it remains my favorite stem and one of my all time favorite bike parts.
Cant wait to support you guys more as the years go by!
You and your company are awesome, thanks for sharing
