Before you judge you must understand that this was the first album that came out after the drummer's accident that left him with One arm!!! They had to work around those obstacles but still stayed together and came out with in my opinion a great album!!! Got to give them credit!!!
It really shows how talented they are to adjust to Rik Allen losing an arm. That’s why the first 3 records are the best.

This is off Hysteria, a great album, but their greatest album, in my opinion, is Pyromania. Their earlier album, High n Dry is also great, but less commercially known.

This is one of their best songs, video, performance at the highest level, I watched it on MTV. Let's also not forget, on December 31, 1984, drummer Rick Allen was in a car accident in which he lost his left arm. But the band didn't abandon their drummer and get back to work until Allen came up with a custom-designed drum kit that could be played with the feet. Rick Allen's return to the stage took place at the Monsters of Rock festival in 1986 in England.

Well, this IS Def Leppard's signature sound, which they paid their producer good money to produce. Bangin' hair band, but not for everybody. I love 'em, though. Thanks for your honest reaction.
I think that the over production was because of Rick Allen use of the electric drums. This is their first album where Allen is using the new drum setup with the pedals to compensate for the loss of his arm. This changed the whole sound of the group. You can tell the change from the albums prior the accident and this one post accident.
One of my favorites from that decade. I have never gotten tired of this song.
It’s a great song. In fact, it’s their only #1 song on the billboard hot 100. This album actually has 7 songs released as singles in which 6 of them reached top 20. Animal” (#19), Pour Some Sugar on Me” (#2), Hysteria (#10), “Armageddon It” (#3), “Rocket”(#12) and “Love Bites (#1). It’s their most successful album to date. However, as Nick said it is overproduced. Robert John “Mutt” Lange (Shania Twain’s ex) produced the album along with the previous album Pyromania (1983). That was the album that started their top 40 success with “Photograph”, “Rock Of Ages” and “Foolin”. You should definitely check that album out.
The overproduced thing is horseshit. That is all modern music is today is produced. No one says it.

This was a huge hit at the time. You couldn't walk into a bar or club without hearing it. Was on the radio all the time. The 80's sound was fun. The 90's went dark and the fun was over.
DL has a lot of ballads and you guys have pulled two so far. They rock, you just need to hit the right song. Keep going with them and you'll find one.
I saw these guys in 1983 after releasing Pyromania,and they rocked out! Great concert,great times!

Def Leppard's main producer discovered Shania Twain and was married to her. Given that information, if you ever hear her more pop-rock songs you will think he basically wrote DL songs for Shania to sing.
Dissing the sound and Joes vocals? Cmon this is an absolute banger! Legendary track. One of the best power ballads of all time. Will take these "cheese" over the crap out today! They sound the same in concert, so not just studio sounds. If you want to be blown away listen to Stagefright or Photograph off Pyromania or even White Lightning about Steve Clark's drug and alcohol addiction. Epic track.

I love Def Leppard. My favourite album is Slang. Their drummer lost his arm in a car accident and instead of replacing him they stuck by him and he learned to play the drum with one arm and foot pedals. Such legends.

Massively huge song for Def Leppard......but also when they got massively soft. I saw the tour in '88 and they played all the hard stuff and this album. They can harmonize just like the album. Mutt Lange took this band to the top 40 and they made it to super star status. I just thought he dated them big time. Even back then.

Yeah I’m not a die hard Def Leppard fan…but there was no auto tune until 98 so it’s talent to sing that way. Great song if you look at the the lyrics. Their harmonizing is great in my opinion. Motley Crue and Def Leppard had great harmonies I will say. Am I more of a Motley Crue fan…oh God yes..but I appreciate these guys extremely!

This was Def Leppard's first album after drummer Rick Allen lost his arm in a car accident, and he did a great job, IMHO. You can notice that, in the video, they never show Rick's left side, where he is missing his arm. The sound was very much Mutt Lange's heavy reverb sound that he used later on Shania Twain's albums.

Armageddon it is my favorite off the hysteria album but my favorite is Pyromania… Rock of Ages, Photograph & Billy’s Got A Gun…. Are my favorites but literally the whole album is fantastic!

Late 80's classic. Always brings me back to HS, and makes me think of dances after football games, driving w/friends, working after school & on weekends, and just simpler times. Def Leppard, is such great piece of 80's culture. Still love them!

Wife Speaking...Saw these guys last year with Motley Crue, Poison and Joan Jett ...as you can imagine it was Absolutely Awesome..My "coming of age music" for sure!!..This was a HUGE hit for them..And they've had many many hits..They are definite Rock Royalty!!! Whoa, Ty I heard that "passion" in your voice...It's interesting you mentioned "overproduced" as Mutt Lange was their Manager and he created MEGA ROCK STARS..Look him up...SCHOOL DANCE FLASHBACKS!!!!!

You might be used to autotune and stuff, but this was all the band members and the producer in the chorus (actually singing!) It was a smash hit, women loved it and it is one of the best ballads of the era. The production of the album went on to be mimicked by bands to this day. At the time of this video Def Leppard was the biggest band in the world.

Def Leopard's Hysteria album had a total of 7 singles on the Billboards top 100 count down & 6 out of the 7 singles were in the top 10 , something that no album in the last going on 36 years has done & this song Love Bites was the #1 song of the album .

Otherwise try Die hard the hunter. Much more ambience and rock feel. Hysteria was kind of the beginning of the end for me. Retroactive was the last one I bought.

Mutt Lange , 5th member of several bands... great 80's production. Great album though. You have to remember the drummer lost his arm in an accident and this album was made shortly after. The electric drum pads were focal to the production. It was a breakout triumph and a no.1 album and song. Let it Rock and Foolin are two earlier straight ahead bangers you may enjoy more.

The guitars and bass have a distinct reverb because most of them were recorded through a Rockman box. And the drums sound unique because they are electronic drums that the drummer had to learn to use after he lost an arm in a car accident.
I can give or take this song. I don't hate it, but i don't seek it out. It was overplayed (it still is on the Drive). I hear it every other day, at least. It is called "views" for a reason - you are not going to give every song 5 stars... Nor should you if you really don't feel that way. Love that you are authentic! One thing i love is the drums are strong! I think what Rick Allen can do with losing his arm is amazing! He is one of the top 5 Drummers on my list (very inspiring)! Totally agree with your review of this song. I love Hysteria better!!!! Again love that you look up other things to compare, lately... Very fun!
