How did the US end up with a two-party dictatorship? Are Trump and Biden really the only options? Does lesser evil voting work? If it’s meant to prevent the worst case scenario, then how come it didn’t prevent the genocide in Gaza? Is third party voting really as useless and fascist enabling as Democrats say?
To discuss this and more Rania Khalek was joined by BT’s Eugene Puryear. (Recorded July 10.)

For much of my working life I was employed as a Merchant Marine officer. For weeks, sometimes months, a kaleidoscopic array of the human species worked and laughed together in close quarters towards a common goal. It was a beautiful, often very fun and satisfying experience. I am here to tell you that the divisionism and animosity that exists in this world today are "manufactured". As long as We the People contend with each other on perceived differences, then the our "leaders' will continue to subvert the well-being of us ALL. The natural "metabolism" of the World's People has been subsumed by global oligarchs with very selfish, "undemocratic" intentions. Ironically, it feels comforting to be an old man.

Much of the difference between the two parties is centered on social and cultural areas. While most Americans have fairly progressive views, remember that a minority ultra right religious group have succeeded in pushing their views and get Republicans elected to state and local governments. This works well with the ultra wealthy capitalist class, that favor Republicans as well. It is structural in terms of the Lesser of Two Evils consideration, as you discussed.
There are good third party candidates, but whether they can get on the ballot in all states and win the electoral college. If they actually had a good chance of both, it would be a big improvement and the political landscape would be different. Even a parliamentary system would potentially lead to a better place.
I haven’t decided on one candidate yet, although I am saying a big NO to Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation and a continuation of awful anti woman policies that risk lives.
Read the Project 2025. Don’t think it can’t or won’t happen to you or won’t hurt you. It will. It isn’t about owning the Libs. It is about having decent living standards for everyone that isn’t rich.

The problem with real capitalism is that real capitalism makes rich people poorer over time as prices drop due to fair competition. There are factors that can mitigate and change the progression curve of this effect but chances are the trend over time will continue if competition is fair. This means that capitalism will tend to become something else gradually if those with power don't have some ideology that prevents them from maximizing profits in service to some other goal. It basically means capitalism can't actually exist as a viable solitary system as far as I can tell. You have to hybridize it because power dynamics will cause that to happen anyway and absent a guiding alturistic ideology it will hybridize in a way that makes society as a whole unhappy which is not good for anyone including the wealthy in the long run.

Some people use the word ‘predatory’ in connection with capitalism to create the illusion that there’s a form of capitalism that isn’t inherently predatory; but in fact, capitalism doesn’t even work without the opportunity for exploitation, which is the very nature of the predator: to take advantage of, exploit or prey upon the disadvantaged, the disabled, those in need of healthcare and the financially or otherwise vulnerably handicapped. This is the reason that what the United States calls competition is rightly perceived by China as confrontation; because where there is competition, there’s always a confrontation between the competing parties with a winner and a loser and quite often more than one loser. Rightly or wrongly, however, it certainly is NOT, nor can it be seen as an effort at cooperation. The capitalist system depends on a growing economy (or profit expansion) to work properly, but the banking system is based on the creation of debt which gets back to the predatory nature of capitalism and the reason for the creation of the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund. Anyway, the point is that it just doesn’t work for the common everyday people. It only works for those who are already well CAPITALIZED to funnel wealth from the bottom up.

The definition of capitalism is private ownership and free markets.
The definition that best defines the economy of the US is feudalism, where the government dictates who is allowed to own property and participate in the markets/economy. It's not the other businesses that decide these things it's your government, survival of the monopolies that can get away with treating their employees and customers the lousiest. None of the government propped up companies would still be in business in a real capitalism.
And you two tools are selling the ruling slaver's lies on this issue, because you are what is referred to as fake friends, but real enemies.

I love your show, but this one is crucial, and paywalling a significant portion of it will simply keep this message from poorer members of the left who could help those of us who vote 3rd party.

Dra. Jill Stein del Partido G

There might not be a China if Japan's expansion hadn't been curbed. The same thing China is attempting to do in the Asian region. A region that holds half the world's population (China and India) i.e. market.

I think Claudia De La Cruz is one of my favorite candidates however Dr. Jill Stein is much better prepared to step in to the presidency immediately. I've listened to both and just wished Claudia would join the Green 💚 Party. I also believe in Independence for my country Puerto Rico 🇵🇷💚 and she's very clear on the need for our Independence now. We no longer want to be a colony of any country be it Spain or the United States.! Viva Puerto Rico Libre 🇵🇷💚! Our Independence Party is also Green 💚!
