Winter certainly has its challenges, Adrift Tongariro is a great company to go with and they will ensure your safety and can provide you with essential gear if needed. It’s a great experience
Hi Alex thanks for your feedback . I Can't say with any certainty but April is a month where the weather pattern can be unstable and I highly recommend to give DOC in Whakapapa village a ring for a weather update and recommendation beforehand. It's a beautiful hike and very worthwhile doing.

Yep it is active but very closely monitored, always good to check the warning levels before your hike
