  • A happy and very foamy 2024 my fellow XPS fanatics!
    Let's start off this new year with another BoomCam vlog where you see how I play cityplanner! Yes, I'm working on the actual layout of the city. It involves making a plan in what I'm planning to make and visualize the next steps.
    So let's get to the parks & recreation office of Minas Tirith!

    The real city fortresses that have survived history all have one thing in common. They had a deep well/cistern to draw water from. That round structure, #8 could serve as the well for your city. I am following along on your build.

    I believe the original design had every street zigzagged its way up the hill, unless of course your entrance to the next level is inside the mountain or like you said ramps that lead up.

      Yes you are right, I did not expect to build this section at all so I had to improvise. After this part I let this project rest and move on to another project. Was fun though.

    Hi, greetings to you shiftinglands...I'm the one who emailed you I believe a year ago in regards to making a miniature scale version of fireplace from the haunting (1999) movie. Anyhow, you seemed to never got back to me when you've returned from vacation there. Good news is I've gathered the right supplies and xps foam needed to get started on the project. I'd still love to get your expertise on it. Could I email you progress pics of my fireplace model sometime? 👍

    From a strictly defensive view; I personally would not want to be tasked with defending such a place. Like Minis Tirith it is visually stimulating in appearance but self defeating for it's defenders. Every structure in the area beneath a wall is cover for attackers. Rather than an open kill zone what you are presented with is lots and lots of potential enemy firing positions.
    You end up forced to destroy your own city to properly defend it.
    On the other hand: I'm certain it will provide hours of fun and fascination to whoever gets to play in it. It really does look great!

      Well yes, agreed, but for me its the fun of building such a big structure.

    I unfortunately don't own nor have access to one of those hotwire things to cut clean pieces of the styrofoam for my models...so as a workaround, could I use a utility knife instead to slice through it?then just sand down the rough edges?? 🤔

    • @Shiftinglands
      @Shiftinglands  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes you can do a lot using an utility knife especially when working with large blocks, cutting away access foam.
