Let's begin 2021 with the 8th iteration of the Railway Review series. This time, featuring the Class 319! How good/bad can it be?

Also in December of 1993. Two 319's made a journey across the Eurotunnel into Calais and back making it the first British passenger trains to use the Eurotunnel
The first good thing of 2021
Self Reflection: Well as I hinted earlier, I had lots of 319 footage to use thanks to my new footage library. Some of these clips span as early as 2010 and it was huge fun watching some of these potato quality clips again. I can't lie, I LOVED the votekick joke I added. It was so simple to edit the picture in paint.net, thanks to me finding the TF2 fonts but I couldn't stop laughing myself every time I saw it. The "votekick" sound effects were a late edition but I think it still worked. I wished I spaced it out a bit more though but oh well. A bit of a struggle finding out the song to use, but I'm happy with this one nonetheless.
As always, bonus ducks for anyone able to guess all the locations filmed at, not inc. interior shots. :)

Oooh tough luck, but 99% isn't 100% so no bonus ducks today. But sure, out of all the UK stations/areas, you got them all right! Anyone else is more than free to guess the station the SGMm Sprinter was at :)

Despite their flaws as you've stated, I still love them. Great units, and the sound never gets old for me.
Edit: dont bother with the 769. It's literally a 319 with an engine.

Why not? The 769 sounds just as awesome if you sit in the power car (with the Pantograph on the roof). It of course has 2 Diesel engines.

The 319 has now seen its last movement under power, it seems, and the last examples await a trip to the torch. Here's hoping the last 769s follow soon after

It's true though , they had bad acceleration . They have the same motors as the 317 but the 317 is alot more powerful at accelerating ,I dont understand this.
Other than that, I love their motor noise and yeah appearance and liverys over the years.

At least the 319s were actually comfortable to travel on, unlike the horrid 700s I have to suffer which run on my line. RIP
A few kilos of coarse gravel is more comfortable than a 700 honestly.

I had to go on a 700 from bedford to brighton and I wanted to commit self deletion from how uncomfortable the seats were...
This has been the best yet 🤣 But the 319s are some of my favourite units, despite their flaws. I have had them as local, or somewhat local trains to me now for 9 years mind you

Been on a 769 today from Wigan to Alderley Edge! I got off at Bolton and watched it switch from Diesel to electric complete with raising pentograph! 😊 its nice to use trains that are from the 80s and bi powered imho. Britains railways have Character! Renember the pacers? 😉

Best 319 moment was in rush hour one turned up with 4 carriges and stopped less than half way up the platform in farringdon

Great video. To be honest about the Class 319. As much as I like them. They are like the Alexander ALX400 Trident or B7TL bus. They were a hit in their day but times have moved on. I like the trains and the seats are comfortable but that's all they have going for them.
That's a pretty good analogy and I'm miffed I didn't use it. Mind you, I miss riding ALXs alot :(
8 car sets of these horrible trains replaced the very comfortable CIG/BIG 12 car trains with buffet cars.
3rd rail is not inferior; OHLE is forever coming down.
Seats too low designed for children, windows too high, but the current Thameslink trains have seats which are an order of magnitude worse.
Actually I found FCC more reliable than Thameslink... I used to have services that would actually run on time, now the 700s end up being about 10 or 15 minutes late.
Honestly FCC and Thameslink were bad in their own ways. Thameslink trains are more prone to delays and cancellations due to the stupidly long routes that they run with multiple delay hotspots and FCC had lots of 4 car Bedford to Brighton services running. It was bad then and bad now.

the 319 replaced the 317 on the mml as the 317s ran between bedford and moorgate then when the snow hill tunnel aka the main thameslink tunnel opened the 319's took over their routes and the 321 is based upon the 319

Just want to correct you: 319s do not serve St Albans, Park Street, How Wood, Bricket Wood, Garston or Watford North as LNWR have decided that the Abbey Line doesn’t really matter so no trains are on it.
Also stay away from 319216 because the motors are slightly broken and Northampton can’t be bothered to fix it.
The 319/2s were formerly /0s but were fitted with the newer seats and 1st class in the 90s because they were doing express services with Connex. The bar area was sadly removed.
