    Please don't pester comments/replies with requests of what trains should be next. Not only is it cluttering but it's also quite annoying (even for a joke), especially since you have no control over what ones will be next. I've had to ban a few people over this.
    But yeah, um, you know the drill by now. Bonus Ducks and a free Berwick Swan will be awarded to whomever guesses *all* the exterior filming locations right. :)

    The HST is the high speed equivalent of the Sprinter. It's not the most special train, but it was the workhorse of the railways, and did it with little fuss for far longer than it was expected to. When you are old enough to have seen them enter service, and still keep going to this day, you can't help but respect them. If only I was that old....

    • @russellgxy2905
      @russellgxy2905 Před rokem +3

      I find the HST's more comparable, albeit the polar opposite, to the Pacers actually. The main reason being that the HST's were essentially designed as a stopgap pending the development of more modern electric trains like the ill-fated APT, much like the Pacers were designed as stopgaps for rural, regional, and outer commuter services while the Sprinters were developed. Also yeah, they lasted _far_ longer than they were ever designed for
      Polar opposites in the fact that the HST's became cultural rail icons known the world over, and even formed an export model. The Pacers...are the Pacers. I still want to know who thought introducing 4-wheel passenger vehicles to the mainline in the 20th century was a good idea

    Having the HST with me in a fair chunk of my life and grew up with them. I respect these iconic workhorses and they are great trains. The Valenta Paxman V12's were painfully loud as a child but they did sound nice and the reason they were fitted with the MTU Euro 4 power units was to improve reliability and to meet the LEZ and ULEZ requirements of most cities in the UK from my understanding. I believe the VP185's are rated to Euro 3 emissions from what I have read but for a passenger diesel train to have a 40+ career and to have the world fastest diesel record is something that has to be respected. As much as I like TGV's, Shinkansens, KTX, Eurostar etc. The HST is the number one favourite for me and I am looking forward to riding the mini HST's next year when I visit Wales in 2022.
    Thanks for the video mate.

    Being from Australia and having only visited the UK once, I never got the chance to see a HST at full flight in person. Our XPT train, which was based on the HST, also originally came with Valentas (I believe they were replaced with VP185's like some HST's). Loud maybe but sounded great! I even prefer the sound of the old Valentas to the newer engines. Nevertheless, there is something amazing watching, even on video, a HST at full flight pelt through a station, engines screaming. Few trains can match it.

  • @petermostyneccleston2884

    This is my favourite of all of the trains in Britain. I used to put my bicycle onboard in Reading, take it off at Crewe, and put it in the guards van on another HST for Colwyn Bay. Then go for my holiday.
    The trip back from North Wales, to where I was working, was exactly the same, but in reverse.
    Everything about these trains worked, designed and built in a time when we knew how to build things. Reliable, Comfortable, Quick, I am sure that there are many other descriptions of these trains that I can come up with, and all very accurate.

    This is my take on the HST, even though i dont even live in the UK (or Europe). They are very nice looking, and the Mk 3 Coaches fit the Class 43, when it used slam doors. I understand why some Mk 3 Coaches was swapped to use interlocked automatic doors, but honestly it doesnt sit right with me, honestly it would of been better (in my opinion) it was changed to something like the 442. Sure it maybe narrower, and some people may not like the limited room, but it would of fit better when matched with the Class 43 Engines.
    I am now prepared to see some replies about how they should of changed the slam doors to sliding doors.

    • @BibtheBoulder
      @BibtheBoulder Před 3 lety +4

      This is my take on the HST. They take an age to get the amps up when you take power, and the seat rocks from side to side on its single pivot support. You need to put the brakes on ages before you might ever expect to, and you need to take then off 10mph before they need to come off. It's a little quirk they have. The vision out of the cab is excellent, the noise proofing is awful, thankfully. They rarely let you down, and in twenty years of driving them I have never failed one. They are my train of choice when it's slippery out there, and my train of choice when I am a passenger.
      Finally, comparing them to newer trains is like comparing a modern Mercedes to an old Jaguar E-Type. Sure, the Mercedes is way quicker, more comfortable, technologically on a different planet blah blah blah....but tell me, which one would you sooner drive?

      @@BibtheBoulder Very nice insight there, so thanks for your comment :)
      @Snivy Films Probably because plug leaf doors like that are slower and have more chances for reliability issues (more moving parts.) I dunno, maybe the design wasn't too important for a basic life extension measure.

Looking on Wikipedia it was a Grand Central Unit. Also lots of drivers for Scotrail do not like the HST as it is old, meaning it is DANGEROUS!!!!
