torque.. kind of weird. I picked up on all that stuff naturally decades ago in gran turismo, downshifting as fast as possible, keeping the RPM's in the power / torque range. Takes a little bit to learn the car but within an hour it kind of becomes second nature. @@keestojuusto6072

This is why gaming is incredible.. how else would you be able to battle it out side by side with Lando? You simply couldn't, any other way.
I raced him on F1 2020 back during COVID days when he did open lobbies with Tiametmarduk, and he is severely held back by his Logitech setup unfortunately. No way I could beat him on his setup he used for Iracing, but I’d probably easily gap him on this setup (I was shaky and on a controller in F1 2020 and still beat him, although F1 is also full of rammers). The wheel itself is fine, but looking at his setup you can definitely see why he is a bit slower than normal x)
In a Quadrant video that Lando was in, he literally said "I don't have my racing line. Idk where I'm going" and that was one of the funniest things ever

The counter on the right is RPM, REV(olutions) per minute. If you shift quickly on decel. then you will be in power to leave the turn. "Keeping the revs up".
You cut out the best part, the first race Shroud said "I made an accident" and Lando cracked up in laughter.
Lando is such a vibe I hope they collab again!

There's markings for the distance before the corner, using those to gauge your breaking zone will make you way more consistent

nice. To be honest I've not really watched shroud in years but this was an interesting collab and I'm sure he'll improve with more practice. I only have experience in the past doing like forza time trial laps or spa races with friends but should really try PC wheel setup at some point
It's quite simple if you just explain how an engine works, it has an rpm range where it is more effective, so you want to keep it in that range when you shift gears. You can learn the sound of it really well, the advantage of a combustion engine.
I was #59 that Shroud made contact with lol. Was so awesome getting to be a part of this and beating Lando :)

I think what Lando meant regarding your downshifts is that you're not doing them quickly enough. You're braking, losing speed, then downshifting where Lando is braking and almost immediately downshifting.

I think I can speak for shroud and other people like us, when we game for a loooooong time and we are good or excelent at pretty much all mouse and keyboard games we freakin love to try something different and learn something new like racing with a stearing wheel, it's so refreshing.

I was wondering what that massive wheel base he was using was, it’s the Logitech DD, $1000 wheel. It looks so goofy from the front lol. Very EPIC to see Shroud dipping his toes in sim racing, maybe the community will grow

He's getting better, but he really needs to watch a track guide and learn the braking points. Makes it so much easier to carry the right amount of speed into the corners.
Man i kinda wish people that really want to learn racing get proper teaching.
Like lando saying to hit the apex and then go back to the outside if correct but not why it is correct which is really important. (To keep the most possible speed throughout the entire corner)
Same thing with the shifting while under breaking, if you downshift early it helps slow the car down compared to shifting really late where it might start understeering too.
And knowing when the shift being quite literally just a thing you feel or hear, i always learn when to shift by sound so i dont have to look at the revs and can keep my eye on the road, i learn my braking points by either having suggested gears on or racing line on but only in corners and then turning it off once i get a grasp for braking points.
All in all, its just a whole lot of practice and becoming used to whatever youre driving, people can probably come up with endless tips but it really is mostly getting used to it all.
No flame for lando or anything, i like that kid and shroud definitely improved quite a bit here.

ALWAYS leave racing line on. Even if you don't put it on with "Corners Only" mode.
Even I leave it at "corner only" mode as I need to know where the braking point is. That's what the number guides on the side of the tracks are for. Those bollards that says "100", "50", that's the meter guide on how far the corner is approaching the driver but some tracks don't have that like the Nurburgring thus having racing line is extremely useful.
You don't have to stick with it and sometimes its faster but at least it give you a gauge on where the braking point the game determines it to be and what's the safest line for you to use. It's a good guide tbh.
I love how half the video basically is about Shroud downshifting late and not being able to hear it, there's a reason I tell people I got my relative pitch from listening to cars racing :P

Ok, that was a really unexpected collab. But I love it!
Lando was talking about the pitch of the revs. The simplest way to explain it would be that you want to keep your revs as high as possible so downshift earlier. This helps slow the car down faster
Interesting. So is it just spamming the downshift paddle when braking hard? Or does that way of downshifting have a name?

@@felipoto It's called Engine Braking. But that's not the reason why you downshift as fast as possible. It's called Rev Matching and improves braking. The idea is that RPM remains the same while shifting down creating more stability in the car and thus allowing faster cornering speeds.

nope, on this game the line makes you slower, I turmed it off and I am now doing 1:36's around the track shroud is racing here
@@thevoid7635 I think the line is ok to have on in the beginning, in order to get a feel for the track and the general racing line. Once you got a feel for the track and racing line, then I would agree that turning the racing line off would make you faster.
@@jvp1utube that's what I did, the racing line is helpful to gain an understanding but not for a full race
@@thevoid7635 Oh yeah, in a race, the line will definitely throw a person off. When you always relied on an imaginary line for your braking points or when to turn in, you'll struggle when you're off line battling someone.

A way to improve is to take note of what gear you take every corner at, I always drive a track and tell myself what gear the corner is probably a habit from all the rally racing I watch.
you look good shroud, try downshifting to low gear high revs faster. Your timing is great, but you try going into hairpins in 4th gear. Better off in 2nd. I hope you keep racing!
