RB contracts are tough in this modern nfl but without zeke cowboys will need to find a replacement bcus pollard does not look like he can be the lead back especially since they cap his touches every game. Cowboys need a numbers 2 receiver and maybe an additional TE, to open the offense and stop defenses from loading the box to stop zeke. I think Dak in a team like San Fran could be a lot comfortable. The problem with Dallas has been they count on their talent and not their coaching to win their games. To be fair to Zeke. Part of the reason his yards per carry is low is because Pollard is used between the 20s and they explicitly put in Zeke for goal like and 3rd and 1 short yardage plays and have him plunge in the line. That “by design” lowers his yards per carry. If he was the full time back his yards per carry would be higher most likely. Still obviously he is past his prime. All I can do is point to the Green Bay/Seattle NFC championship game after the 2014 season. The Packers dominated the game, while Russell Wilson had his worst game as a pro at that point. However, the Packers kicked field goals when they were on the 1 yard line (or super close), rather than going for TDs. That conservative mindset meant that the second Wilson remembered how to football, Seattle was able to mount an incredible comeback with 4 minutes left and ultimately go back to the super bowl. So yeah, I can see why people don't respect McCarthy much anymore.

Some things I disagree with you on, particularly the Cowboys in 2023 from a personnel standpoint. Granted, I'm a Cowboys fan, but I do believe if they stay reasonably healthy they are still looking good for 2023 (2024 may be a different deal).
While it's great to have that star QB in their rookie deal, it's very difficult to find one good enough to take your team to the SB. While 3 out of the final 4 teams have QB's on rookie deals this season, 3 out of the 4 final teams had high profile QB's on big contracts last season. It's more complex than given credit for. For instance, finding those QB's usually means they were a top-10 draft pick, likely on a team that was very bad and had numerous holes to fill. So many holes that they even with a good cap and draft position it's too much to overcome in just 4 years (i.e. Jaguars w/Trevor Lawrence).
Also, cap values aren't always about a particular player and their production vs. cap hit (outside of QB). It's more about the product vs. cap hit for the position. The reason why the Cowboys made out better than they ever should have with the Ezekiel Elliott deal is because they had the highly productive Tony Pollard who was almost a negligible cap hit. The same scenario could very well happen with DeMarcus Lawrence. If he stays healthy and Sam Williams continues to grow at the rate he looks like he will grow...D-Law probably won't be worth his value but the DE position (along with Dorance Armstrong) will be getting fairly comparable production vs. the entire DE cap hit.
The Cowboys have avoided devastating years due to their poor management of the salary cap due to their drafting and talent development. It's the worst secret in the league that for all of the criticism of Jerry Jones, this team drafts very well (and they would draft even better if they didn't take gambles on risky 2nd round picks). And that's a very likely saving grace here (as pointed out with Sam Williams and Tony Pollard).
The big weaknesses for 2023 appear to be WR and CB (and if they stay healthy at CB they should make out alright). If they release Zeke and Tyron while letting LVE, Schultz and Anthony Brown go to FA along with some more nominal role players, they'll save close to $30M against the cap. That will be more than enough to re-sign or franchise Pollard (he's expected to be ready before training camp), re-sign RFA Terence Steele, re-sign McGovern and Donovan Wilson. Tyron may be a candidate to take a pay cut because he's pretty much been replaced by Tyler Smith (again, a great draft pick that played superbly at LT) and Terence Steele at RT. Thus they could come to Tyron and tell him that he's scheduled to be a backup for depth purposes and he may be willing to take a paycut for that (although he has had problems with the Cowboys training staff in the past, he's reportedly close to Jerry Jones).
Schultz was way over contract and was franchised in part because Blake Jarwin's career ended in injury and the team looked incredibly thin at TE prior to the draft. But Jake Ferguson can do everything Schultz can do and Tyler Hendershot (UDFA) appears to be right behind him. The bigger question will be with what they will do with LVE since he had a resurgence this season, but it was a contract year and he has a history of injury and may just want too much while the Cowboys have a promising, but unproven Damone Clark waiting in the wings.
I don't see a lot of massive holes that will not likely be filled unless they have a lot of injuries. The bigger question is that as they reset the roster's salary cap, will they continue to make the same mistakes or will they catch up with the times and modernize their salary cap principles. If they can and hopefully get Kellen Moore to improve his play designs, they'll be a strong team for the future

I don't think KM is a lost cause and the changes he needed to make don't take a rocket scientists (and we don't now how much influence MM has on the offense). But a better play design offense may mean that we don't have the needs we thought we had an we are getting better value for Dak.

I don’t see them cutting Zeke but I could see him trading him to a team. Sucks cause I’m a huge Ohio state fan but dude is just not what he used to be

Actually, I think them cutting him is way more likely than him getting traded why would anybody wanted him also, another more likely scenario is he takes it a pay cut which he’s openly said he would do but I would think about releasing him to be honest especially if with the rumors, I’m hearing that the Cowboys are looking to get Bijan Robinson with the 26 pick would actually be able to put good draft picks to get the best running back at the end of the first round cause he’s pretty much a prime Ezekiel Elliott with Tony Pollard crazy backfield

@@dsbeats5657 this is true I didn’t think about that. I could see the cowboys drafting Bijan if he falls or tank bigsby in the 2nd or 3rd

No team will really want Zeke… too much wear and that contract. I see him being a cut either before or after June 1st. Bijan being a likely target in the draft is not a bad idea. I would seriously look at QB’s in the later rounds if I were the Cowboys.

@@mittouyo2638 I also have another theory like if the Cowboys don’t want to go running back in the early around how about we go with Roschon Johnson? I know he will be there in the third and fourth round and he is pretty similar. Obviously not as good as Robinson, but isn’t that kind of better that we get a running back that doesn’t have a lot of tread on the tires?

It’s bad when you’re rival is clamoring to play you in the playoffs.

I like Dak as a person he means well when it comes to the game I promise to do this, I promise to do that but it doesn’t work that way it’s a team sport and the team has no chemistry. They need discipline, they need someone to yell on the sideline, they don’t have that.
